SOX WIN! What a dominant inning for Papelbon. The kid is just absolute money.

Haha, I just did the Lights Out dance for fun. 48-26, back to 22 games over .500 and with the Yanks losing, our lead over them could increase to 11.5 games!

7-1 Giants, as well.

Who'd have thought we'd play in San Diego and they'd play in San Francisco and we'd ADD to our lead.

Yesss Sox win, 48-26. Hopefully Giants can keep the yanks at bay (sorry for pun), pushing that lead back up to 11.5 games

Beckett was just nasty today, first pitcher to reach 11 wins. Since 2005 he has won 42 games, most of any pitcher since than

Cora at SS

Papelbon has really gotten back into his groove of last year, setting down batters 1-2-3

Nice win, 2 of 3 from a damn good team. Beckett and Paps combine for a downright filthy 9 innings of pitching. Peavy didn't really have his best stuff. Tek jacks one, Lugo still sucks. We should take 2 of 3 from Seattle, as they have Jeff Weaver and Ryan Feiereband going in games 1 and 3.

This was actually one of the best wins on the season IMO. We get beat badly by Chris Young last night and face an even better pitcher in Peavy. But we bring our ace to the table and work some good ABs and pull out a big win. Really nice win, the fact that the Yankees lost makes it even better.

The Sox wrapped up interleague play with a respectable 12-6 record. Essentially, that's like winning every series by taking 2/3. This was probably pretty much expected against the NL, so that's good. It would have been unreasonable to expect another 16-2 performance during IL play.

Anyways...onto tonight. We get to be the away team and keep our DH finally! Yes!

From the Globe:

Lugo is 2-3 lifetime againist Jake Peavy. Mike Lowell is 4-8 with two homers

We all figured out yesterday at Petko that it was Francona'a usual crappy matchup nonsense again. He seems to have a hard time figuring out that hitters and pitchers change. Lugo got the collar again, big surprise, and Lowell did drop on in right for a hit and an RBI but struck out and hit into a DP. Glad we are back in the AL again where we can use all our bullets. Youk sitting the last two games was ridiculous. It is time to sit Lugo down and keep him there until Cora shows signs of wear. Better yet, go out and get someone to play short who can get a hit once in a while.

SD fans need to cool it. Booing the s*** out of Mirabelli, and now they think Beckett is throwing as Spicoli.

Inning ovah, good to see Beckett settle back in.

The Padres are a tougher team than most people think, and they have supplanted the A's as the second best ML team in California. They have outstanding starting pitching, a knock-out bullpen and all they need is one more solid hitter and they could actually make it to the WS. As for the fans, they are loyal and pretty damn knowledgeable which is more than I can say for some fans of other teams in the West. One thing Padres fans all seem to have in common and that is an intense dislike for the Dodgers; man, do they despise them. They hate Bonds but think the Giants are ok and would like to meet the Angels in the WS if they could get there, but their animus for the Dodgers is unreal. Can't figure out if it is jealousy that the Bums have so much money and draw so well, or a total lack of respect because they are such an underachieving team.

Anyway, Red Sox Nation took over Petko over the weekend, and the sports bars were packed with BoSox fans. It was a real hoot. Not to mention that we gained a game over the weekend on the Yankees.

Thats two homeruns Beckett gets back because of that HUGE field. Didn't look his best today. Looked amazing-awesome-filthy in the first 4. After that bump in the road in the fifth' date=' he's looked like he's been grinding and if this were at Fenway it'd probably be a 4-4 game right now. Nice outing though, grinded, worked around a bad strike zone, and got guys out. Thats what aces do, even when they aren't on their A-game.[/quote']

I don't klnow ksushi, it looked to me that Beckett got a second wind in the eighth. He was filthy out there and I think he actually could have gone nine. I think maybe this time Francona actually did something right to make up for his s***** lineup he put out today. He had Okajima soft tossing in the seventh but didn't bring him in the 8th inning and let Beckett throw another. Papelbon was lights out in the ninth and we have 'Oki" if we need him tonight to close or set-up.

big win there... great game from beckett

did anyone else get annoyed when papelbon threw those 3 splitters in a row?

I hated it when Paps went 3-2 on Branyon to lead off the ninth inning; didn't want a walk to open the frame, but knew if Jonathan threw a decent fastball Russ would be walking back dejectedly back to the dugout. He got him, naturally.

I'll say this for the Padre fans. They were amazed at the rabid loyalty of Red Sox fans. We took over the stadium those three nights but their fans took it well and wished our team good luck. Most of us told them back that we'd like to see them in the WS. San Diego is one helluva town, beats SF all to hell now and no need to mention the city of LA which has become the slag heap of the West.

Fred, don't try to hide in the game day thread. We'll find you......"No need to mention the city of LA?" You're an idiot Fred. Everyone knows that Padre fans are spineless and you can hear "Let's Go Dodgers" over any chant they try to muster everytime the bums are in town.

WTF is a "slag heap" anyway? Your life is a slag heap Fred.

Lasorda, to add to your slag heap definition in the link above,

A slag heap is a pile built of accumulated tailings, which are by-products of mining. These waste materials are mostly composed of shale, as well as smaller quantities of carboniferous sandstone and various other residues.

Perhaps what he really meant is that LA is a "shithole". While that characterization more aptly applies to Oakland, I don't think LA is all that far behind.

Another Dodger ******* on this board. The moderators crashed when they let you guys back on and they will live to regret it, but you can find me anytime you want loser. Sooner or later your ass will be off here regardless of what alias you use. As for your team, great job, losing to a guy who hasn't won a game in two years and about ready to get crapped on by Arizona and San Diego. Start getting our your 2008 Next Year Buttons. Your team is going nowhere and fast. As for what is a slag heap? Take a good look in the mirror and take a good look at your team. Even a crud like you could figure it out.

What is it now? 23 losses in 27 games in inter-league road games? Man, does your team stink!!!!

That's what I meant rician. Fortunately I live in the suburbs about 20 miles from that slag heap, but as far as cities go LA is a shitpile, and I've finally come to the realization that the Dodgers are really playing where they should. Tough for an native Brooklynite to finally admit but very very true.

You're reaching. I'd try not to interpret Fred's verbiage, it's not becoming of you nor anyone else for that matter.

We already know where you live Fred, and because I have a shred of human decency I won't post your address.

Edwin got his revenge finally. Bullpen melt down, back-up catcher and a win he definitely didn't deserve.

I'm not gonna do that. If you know his address' date=' you can google map it.[/quote']

I take it you guys are also enjoying the all the public information available online regarding everyone's favorite front running track coach.

I certainly am. It's amazing what you can do with a name and a state these days.
