You will see Lester come up at the end of this season to the point that he is no longer a rookie' date=' and Buchholz in the rotation next year, if you ask me.[/quote']I was n't talking about technicalities. You will not see Lester and Bucholz open the 2007 season with rotation spots on the Red Sox. I'd put money on it right now.

We have some options. Next season's holes to fill would be 1B/3B' date=' SS?, and possibly up to 3 SP spots. That said we have Schilling's 13mil coming off, Clements 10 mil and Lowell's 9mil as the big ones so thats 30+ mil to play around with this offseason with a number of options within the organization. I think we can afford to offer big money to one of those SPs (something I am in favor of doing) and handing the two other rotation spots to Buchholz/Lester, maybe even upping Wake as a bullpen guy as long as Mirabelli is gone. Maybe resign Lowell, im undecided about that one, if we could get a 1B like Teixiera I'd be all over it. Come 08' with Santana, Manny's contract is up so depending on where you go there we could be looking at a massive amount of money being available, so I think we could possibly make a play for a big-time SP this offseason and still compete for Santana, we'll see.[/quote']

I would go hard after Teixeira and move Youk to 3B. Wake coming out of the 'pen wouldn't be a terrible idea, but Mirabelli has to go as you said. The only thing that keeps playing with my head is how the rotation for '09 shapes up if we are interested in Santana while at the same time wanting to sign a big name FA for '08. Whatever, we have tons of options. I'm just going to sit back and enjoy the ride.

...why are fans throwing s*** on the field?

Thank God this stupid game is over. Onto tomorrow. Still 10.5 up on the Yanks which is all that matters.

So long as CBuch and Bowden stay, I'm cool with persuing Tex. If you think Paps and Lester are good, you don't know Buchholz.

I was thinking more along the lines of going after him during the off-season. He's a FA after this season.

I didn't really expect to win this game the way Young has been dealing (like a 1.2 ERA in his last 7 starts before this game!). I'm confident that Beckett can shut down the Padres offense today, and if we can scratch some runs against Peavy, we have a great chance to win. Should be a good game.
