J.D. Drew was removed from Wednesday's game after two innings with right quad tightness.

The Red Sox said it was a precaution. Drew had a leadoff homer and a double before being removed from a 7-0 game.

I don't think so. He just had some cramping and with a 7-0 lead' date=' there was no reason to take any chances.[/quote']

Thanks. I was nervous, given his history of injuries.

You can't seriously want an honest response to this question. You just can't.

The two don't even belong in the same sentence if we're talking injury history.

when's the last time Drew missed significant time due to injury? like 2 years ago when he got drilled in the wrist. his injury proneness is overrated

The only reasons Dodger fans came here is to:

1.) Harass Fred

2.) Because they are pissed that Drew opted out, and left their team with zero power options

Honestly Drew has not taken unecessary days off this season, I do not have a problem with Tito giving him a day off every once in awhile to keep him fresh all year long. Let's face it, you guys are pissed that you lost an incredibly talented player.

Didn't you suggest the Red Sox trade Dustin Pedroia for Jorge Cantu?

I will admit I was 100% wrong on that one obviously. I still think that J.D. Drew's injury prone label is overrated. We can both agree can't we that most of his injuries were on freak-type accidents.

Not true. I constantly bitched about him and his "effort and heart" when he was with the Dodgers. I was actually happy when he opted out.

I can't say anything about his efforts when he was with the Dodger because I don't watch Dodger games, however so far I don't think anyone here has had any problems with his effort in games. He always busts his ass down the line and makes almost every play at firstbase close.

hmm, not quite. As you can see I have pretty much backed off of Fred to the point that I will only respond to him after he has made one of his enlightened remarks. Trust me no one is pissed about losing Drew's talent, in fact we have been trying to keep Sox fans from being blinded by his OPS. Why the Hell would I be pissed as a Dodgers Fan to find out that we are not paying Drew 14 million dollars a year to hit .243? There are plenty of other reasons to be pissed if you are a Dodger fan, losing Drew is not one of them. Don't misinterpret calling Drew out for being a POS human being as wishing he was on the Dodgers, hell I would not even with Drew on the Giants they already have a mess in Zito.

Seeing on how Drew is batting about .330 in June and has 15 RBIS in his last 12 games, I would say J.D. is on his way to having a typical season for him. Probably around .280 with 20 homers and 80 RBIS. Honestly we are a big market club and the 14 million a year contract really isn't going to hurt us bad at all in the future.

He was just pulled from a game because his Quad hurt. btw he is hitting .291 in the month that means if he kept up the same production for the rest of the year he would need a 200 game season to raise his stats to his average, and last I checked the month is not over, and he can very well be hitting .230 before the month is over. I thought the 14 million was for a number 5 batter to protect Manny and Ortiz? I think 14 million is going to hurt, it may not be this year, but it will come back to bite the Sox in the ass. It will be 14 million less to offer FA in the seasons to come.

Oh, and he has 13 RBIs this month, thanks mostly to a useless 7 RBI day.

MANNYHOF, anytime Drew gets what even appears to be a mishap red flags go up and I, too, was concerned when he came out of the game. Apparently it was just as a precaution and he should be in there tomorrow evening in San Diego. If, however, he misses the Padre series I would have to be concerned. Some players have a very low threshold of pain and I'm sure the Dodger fans can tell you all about Mike Marshall from the 80's who missed games for the most benign bumps and bruises. I think with the rigorous workout schedule J.D. has put himself through the past two winters he will be just fine. For me, I'm glad we have him. He has a good OBA, can hit anywhere in the lineup, is a very good outfielder with a good arm, good speed on the bases and a very smart ballplayer. To be honest, I can understand how the Dodger fans are angry he opted out of his contract but the fault lies with their former GM who put that in his contract. Drew and his agent saw that the fall 2006 FA crop was very meager in talent and saw it as a possible opportunity to cash in. The fact that Drew did and cashed in for the Red Sox made it a double win for us and angst for the Dodgers. He did hit 20 homers and drive in 100 runs last season and from what I see in the local papers out here they have no one even remotely on track to drive in that many this year and may not even have a 20 homer man on their team.

Lugo, since you are on another thread and off F@C, let me both give you my opinion and get yours on why your Dodgers might be having some trouble re-establishing themselves as a power in the NL. For that just look to the Angels down the freeway. When Casey Kotchman was ready, boom, they move Erstad off first base and then off the team. Even with that mono last year, CK is not established as a solid 300 hitter with a bright future. Then last year Howie Kendrick was ready and, boom, there goes Adam Kennedy. Kendrick, as you know, shapes up as a good second baseman and very good hitter. They are now part of the solid foundation for the next decade of Angels baseball. This year, Anderson and Rivera is hurt so they give a shot to Reggie Willits. Boom, he is hitting in the 330's, has stolen 18 bases and looks like their leadoff man for the next ten years. Not to mention getting Jared Weaver into the starting rotation.

The Dodgers? They have the PCL batting king, James Loney, ready to take over first base and what do they do? They resign the declining Nomar Garciaparra and his one home run this year. They have a real talent in Matt Kemp about ready to take over CF and what do they do? They sign singles hitter and out extraordinaire Juan Pierre blocking Kemp from progressing. They have a good young third baseman named Andy LaRoche but they jerk him around in and out of the lineup and then send him down for Tony Abreu who is not a 3Bman and a poor fielder and Wilson Betemit who can't field his position worth a damn and is hitting a roaring 198.

My question to you and other Dodger fans on this thread---Are these smart moves of a team that wants to build a long range winner?

You are right about the stats, (last time I use what Don Orcillo says in a post). Still he has been productive, and you say he may be hitting .230 by the end of June, well what if he is hitting .260. I think it is rediculous that you think just because he had a bad two month stretch it means he is going to automaticaly suck for the rest of the season. That is just foolish.

I can say the same thing, Just because Drew has has a couple of good weeks doesn't mean he will be hitting for the rest of the year.

Posted
just like Beckett got a pass last year for being an NL pitcher coming to the AL for the first time, Drew deserves a grace period for being an NL hitter coming to the AL. Drew gets unnecessary flack cause of the contract he signed and because he started off so hot
Posted
Has he ever put up numbers high enough to make up for 2 horrible months?

I mean from here on out, does his career point him towards a .240 hitter or better?
