Manny Delcarmen has been recalled from Pawtucket. It looks as though Brendan Donnelly has a strained right forearm and will be placed on the DL. We'll have more after Terry Francona's press conference at 11:30 a.m.

I knew something was up when Donnelly a couple of days ago was yanked quickly from warming up in the bullpen

Delcarmen this season in Pawtucket

20 appearances- 3-2, 3.38 ERA

29.1 innings, 28 Hits, 13 Runs (11 ER), 1 HR, 14Walks, 37 Ks

I dont like the idea of bringing up Delcarmen. He is just finding his groove. Now he'll sit in the pen and may see an inning a week at most since he is so far down on the pecking order and seeing as the sox rotation goes deep in games.

Then wouldn't you like the idea of bringing up Delcarmen?

I disagree. Look at the Sox's options for 7th inng duties and when Okajima or Paps need a rest: Timlin, Snyder, Pineiro, Lopez (tho just used against lefties)

Delcarmen has the best arm compared to to that bunch. Id be surprised if he isnt called on in the later innings

If Donnelly is down for a prolonged period beyond the 15 days, they are going to start looking for another reliable arm in the bullpen. MDC is not the answer.

I think they were going to be looking for another RH power arm in the bullpen anyways.

Who knows, maybe MDC can be that guy.

We can hope, but he has not been able to be consistent in the majors. They can give MDC a look, but if he starts to get tuned up like he did last year and in ST, they'll need to explore trade possibilities.

I agree.

MDC is the way to go now. He's done what he needs to in order to be given another shot. The line of thinking that he's not worthy of it is the same one that would have us looking for a 2B right now. That said, if he proves for a second time that he can't handle the level, then he's used up what should be his last chance.

We are a month and a half from the deadline. Internal options need to be explored before we start trading people away, and MDC fits the bill.

Ok, so here is what happened. I was playing Execution in multiplayer and I was playing with 3 friends on my team and we were playing 4 guys who all had the tag|MOD| infront of there names. As soon as the game started, me and my friends immediately noticed that our weapons had no ammo, we thought it was just a glitch. Then, somehow, the ENTIRE other team just killed us in a matter of seconds. I had no idea what the hell just happened but after the first round the other team started laughing. The next round, the exact same thing happens.

So I went to go get my camcorder to record it and I am walking through my kitched and my mom looks really upset for some reason, she is looking at my report card when she says ""You're movin' wth your auntie and uncle in Bel-air". I whistled for a cab and when it came near the licence place said "fresh" and it had dice in the mirror but anyway I could say that this cab was rare but I thought nah forget "yo holmes to bel-air!" I pulled up to the house about 7 or 8 and I yelled to the cabbie "Yo holmes smell ya later!" Looked at my kingdom I was finally there to sit on my throne as the prince of Bel-air.

Anyone have any word on what Edgar Martinez has done this year?

2-2 3.73ERA 31.1IP 26H 29K 11BB 1.18WHIP and a .221BAA. The thing that has KILLED him to this point is that in 31.1IP he has given up a shocking 7 HOMERUNS. That is really bad. His K's indicate that he has very good stuff. But him HR's indicate that his stuff flattens out over time or he hangs his pitches. He still needs refinement.

Thanks. Still probably a better bet than Hansen.

i would have given Travis Hughes a shot and let MDC continue to pitch well in AAA a little longer

4-2, 0.96 ERA, 24 G, 37.3 IP, 4 ER, 2 HR, 12 BB, 35 K, 1.58 GO/AO, .167 AVG, 0.88 WHIP

Craig effing' Breslow' date=' PLEASE.[/quote']

Here, here. I was mad when I heard of the Romero signing because that shouldve been Breslow's spot. Oh by the way, Sox werent able to find any takers whatsoever so he has been granted his release today

I think DelCarmen is being called up to showcase him in a trade... As of late.. Brian Corey has been UNHITTABLE.. last 12 IP ....0.73 ERA/12 K's/6 HA....under .97 WHIP.

Corey must be the unluckiest guy in the Sox organization,..he was FANTASTIC in ST..then pitched his ass off in Pawtucket and still...it took 2 months for JC Romero to be ashown the door. I know Romero is a lefty but Corey has a FILTHY changeup that makes him VERY effective against LHH.

Why are Breslow and Hughes so looked down upon by the Red Sox? Their stats at Pawtucket are a helluva lot better than Delcarmen's and Hansen's, too. We have seen the past two seasons when Manny has been up here that he can't locate his pitches, walks too many batters, then gets lit up. We need relievers who can get batter out, not one who impressed because he hit the speed gun at 95. What good is that if the ball is staight as an arrow, or isn't located properly in the strike zone, or is out of the strike zone. We've seen all of this with Delcarmen before.

Hughes just doesn't excite me. His career in MLB has been s***' date=' and he's already 29. Nothing really enticing.[/quote']

they could atleast add him to the 40-man

as for his pro stats: 1-1 in 24 games, 25 2/3rds in. 6.31 ERA 18 R/16 BB/16 SO/1.67 WHIP

SeaBeach, Like it was said before, this could be an attempt to get his stock up a litlle before trading him off.

Donnelly's recurring forearm problem is very discouraging. The possibility that he may not be able to return this year is becoming more probable. The FO is in a position where strengthening the bullpen is a must even if MDC does continue to perform well. Who is availble---Lidge, Dotel? Anyone else?

If I'm the FO, the priority lies in getting another bat, and then another starter. The bullpen recently has actually been pretty lights out. I would tryout Craig Breslow and Bryan Corey (both having great years at AAA) before trading for another arm.

But I do agree that the bullpen must be strengthened (just not as badly as the lineup and rotation need to). I can't think of any other names at the top of my head really that are available. I doubt SD trades Linebrink, but if the Sox acquire another bat maybe they can trade Lowell to SD for Linebrink? That's a rough idea obviously and there would most likely be more pieces, but God knows that SD needs a producing bat in that lineup to give it some life.

hello Brendan, have you ever met my friend, Tommy John?

His symptoms are very indicative of a UCL tear.

the sox do not need another pen arm. Most teams dont have 1 lights out pen arm, you guys have 2. If you have that, then the rejevenated offense will give you plenty of leads and guys like DiceK and Beckett and can the ball right to OkiPap. I think the one area the sox must strengthen is the rotation. If Schilling comes back as the shitbag he was when he left, then he wont be an upgrade over s***** Gabbard anyway. That moves Wake to your 3 in terms of reliability, which is never good.
