Did anyone read the stat showed up on the screen during the first batter? Papelbon has a 1.58 ERA during his first 3 mlb seasons, it was shown so quickly I didnt get to read the rest

Yess Sox win, 43-24. 8.5 game lead holds steady

Matsuzaka stood tall on the national stage and pitched one hell of a gem. Getting through jams, he was able to hurl 7 scoreless innings while striking out 8... outpitching the 22 year old hard thrower Matt Cain

Hopefully we start to see one of Manny's tears where he hits 8 HRs over the next 2 weeks

DMats pitched well and all, but my 80 yr old grandma can shut out the giants offense. Their offense is just flat out terrible. 2 opportunities to play small ball and score runs yet their dimwit manager doesnt take it. Stupid.

Bochy has never been a good in-game manager. I don't see how the Giants managed to lure him away from the Padres.

Bunt with Bonds up, 2 on, none out? You can't be serious. You'd be after Joe's head if he something similar.

I have a feeling this game is gonna be 1-0 or 2-1. The giants O is awful.

You called it right Jacko. Let me tell you about Matt Cain. If this kid ever gets some real hitting support he is going to be something to see. Oh yes, he already is, but I mean he will get a large number of wins if the Giants ever return to the hitting team they once were.

I figured like you in a close game, something like 3-1 or 3-2, but Red Sox fans cannot bitch about lack of hitting today. We faced a damn good young pitcher with an upside that could say Cy Young Award in a couple of years.

Matsuzaka is getting to be the Tim Wakefield of lack of batting support fame, but today it was because we faced a very good young pitcher. Fortunately, Dice-K pitched a very good game himself and it looks like Papelbon is lights out again as our closer. It would have been even better if your Yankees had lost, but I never believed the Mets would sweep them at YS. Now it's a rubber game with those NY teams.

As long as Sabean is the general manager, the Giants will go nowhere.

Listening on the radio sucks. Fox here is showing atl/cle and of course MLBTV has blacked out the sox game:rolleyes:

MTB, I know what you mean. I had to endure the Angels-Dodgers game which might be great for the people where I live but I would have loved to see that duel between Dick-K and Matt Cain. Of course, we got it on radio and we sure got ourselves out of some deep doo-doo a few times. The radio feed from WRKO was decent, though. At least I got to hear my favorite team win their second in a row. Three would be better tomorrow.

Once again' date=' the mighty Giant lineup can't get to opposing pitching. Cain and Derek Lowe would both have better records if their batters could actually hit when they're pitching.[/quote']

Rodney, believe me you're not alone. The Red Sox have not exactly busted the ball the past week. Hell, even yesterday eight of our nine hits were collected by two players. Today, though, we had an excuse. Cain was terrific. If GM Brian Sabean can develop some good position players in the minors the Giants could have the makings of a good team. Lincecom and Cain are a pretty damn good young one-two punch, and say what you want, that Noah Lowry gets a helluva lot from his junkball stuff.

How do you say his name. Cause Mcf***er calls him..

Popple-bahn.

I always thought it was

Pap (like pap smear)- ll- bon

Now don't get bitter Jacko. After all that Mcf***er is so biased towards your Yankees when he announces a Sox-NY game that I feel like puking. I have the last four games of that 2004 ALCS ( I gave the first three shithole games away) and the only time he gave the Red Sox any couth was that A-Rod incident. Of course, that play was so obvious that even that jerk could see what the call should be.

As a Dodger fan, it pains me to say that Cain and Lincecum will be a great 1-2 punch for the Giants. But realistically, the Giants won't be able to field a competitive team. Peter Magowan is still paying off the construction of AT&T/SBC/Pac Bell Park, and he's got the Bonds and Zito contracts to deal with (Bonds hasn't said anything about retiring). Sabean has made his share of boneheaded moves (Pierzynski for Nathan/Bonser/Liriano), and like I said, if he's in charge, the Giants aren't going anywhere.

And it pains me to have at the back of my mind (according to Rosenthal) that the Sox turned down a Cain for Ramirez trade :(

But you got Beckett instead, so it all evens out, right? Except for the fact that Beckett is five years older, right?

Huh, what do you mean I got Beckett instead? The Manny Ramirez for Cain swap was talked about this past December during the winter meetings

Sox couldve had a sick 08 rotation of Beckett, Cain, Matsuzaka, Bucholz, Lester

Well without Manny we dont win this game

but if you have a chance at a 21 yr old ace, you do it. Especially for a hitter who is 2 and screw in terms of seasons. That is the type of rebuilding process that a fan base would accept. If the sox went all pitching and no offense and then signed someone this offseason. Imagine a top 3 for the next 5 yrs of Beckett, DMats, and Cain. Wake can hold the spot until Buchholz is ready and Lester can be the 4. I'd be scared shitless of that rotation.

Maybe we can pull that deal in July? My mouth is watering with the thoughts of that rotation.

Manny isnt Manny right now, even with the homer. He would need to go on a serious tear and the Giants would need to be in it. I have a feeling boy wonder whiffed on this one.

I can feel the breeze.

I'd deal Joba and Kennedy for Cain right now. That kid can pitch. And he might headline a rotation with Lincecum for the next 15 yrs. Hey, Joba, Betances, and Kennedy for Lincecum and Cain, fair deal right? LOL. Those 2 should be untouchable. The fact that Cain was even on the block is f***ing laughable to say the least.

The Giants would never, ever make this deal. I call ******** on Ken Rosenthal about the Red Sox not pulling the trigger on this deal. The Sox have been trying to deal Manny since 2003, why on God's green earth would they back away from the probably the best deal they had seen yet.

On a side note, I think Manny is going to go on a tear and have 15-20 homers by the allstar break.

I don't know, this team has a real shot to win a W.S. this year and for the next couple years. I know pitchers like Cain only come around once in a while but if I were Theo I would have also been hesitant about the deal, with Beckett, DiceK, Lester and Buchholz allready in the fold. Also, there is no gurrantee that Cain will be an ace. He has great stuff no doubt about it and he pitched well today, but he is wild (Like 50 walks in 85 innings and 7 wild pitches). That being said I would have to think long and hard about that deal, and it would probably be about 60-40 in favor of the deal if it were my call.

Whoop-de-f***ing-doo. Joba and Kennedy haven't pitched one inning above AA. I'd deal Buchholz and Bowden for Cain, but isn't a 1st ballot HOF hitter. Would you deal ARod for Cain? That is the comp. Anything else is lipstick on a pig.

Anyone have a link to that article? I have a hard time believing that if the Sox were indeed shopping Manny that they wouldnt jump at the chance to aquire Cain. Im sure thats who they wanted, but as I recall talks centered around Jonaton Sanchez and Noah Lowry in which case talks went nowhere (Lincecum wasnt being included either). Im almost certain Cain was never on the block and was never in the talks for Manny Ramirez.

You could be right. I also wonder just how much help Ned Colletti was to Sabean. It is possible Colletti had more to do with the Giants success earlier in this decade that we think. What the Dodgers have to do is decide if they're going with their young players and go for a decade romp or just keep patching and wasting all that young talent. They have already programmed one of their best prospects, Andy LaRoche, to fail, Ethier is being jerked in and out of the lineup, a good prospect like Loney is in and out of the lineup, Abreu is playing out of position, and Betemit, not matter what you may think, is a stinkeroo. As for why Pierre was signed, you've got me there. Gonzo, on the other hand, has been solid. He is a very solid pickup for the Dodgers.

Rdsx, not to be throwing cold water on this conversation, but is it possible that Ken Rosenthal is full of s*** on this one? I cannot for an instance even imagining that the Giants would include Matt Cain in any kind of trade. Pitchers like that do not come around very often, and he is a big building block for the Giants' revival, that is, if their GM will stop signing some Geritol has-beens and develop some sound position players to build around Cain and Lincecum. I'd take anything Rosenthal has to say with a grain of salt.

The hell? Jacko has a hard on for young pitchers in general. I'd post a link to our fantasy game, but it's too boring. But, I picked up Gallardo a few weeks ago didn't I MJ? Ha. The circle jerk to get rid of the best right-handed hitter I have seen in my lifetime is confounding to say the least. Mr. Ortiz is nothing without Manny. He knows it. I know it. Best 3-4 in modern baseball history.

And the majority do not get IT. You'll miss him Rider when he's gone.

but then again Cain wouldnt have been on the hill to shut us down either ;)

It was a joke, Id gladly take Cain on this team even in place of Manny considering age and salary.

But Id like to see the article where he stated Cain was on the table for Manny. I remember during the discussions that the Giants were interested and we wanted Cain but I dont see any evidence to support the claim that Cain was even remotely a consideration. I did a search and pretty much every source said Cain was untouchable.
