The hell? Jacko has a hard on for young pitchers in general. I'd post a link to our fantasy game, but it's too boring. But, I picked up Gallardo a few weeks ago didn't I MJ? Ha. The circle jerk to get rid of the best right-handed hitter I have seen in my lifetime is confounding to say the least. Mr. Ortiz is nothing without Manny. He knows it. I know it. Best 3-4 in modern baseball history.

And the majority do not get IT. You'll miss him Rider when he's gone.

but talies, we all know Manny is bolting in 1.5 seasons. Would you trade that for a kid who could headline the young, powerful 3 headed monster that is Cain-DMats-and Beckett for the next 10 seasons? I do that deal every day of the week and twice on sunday.

3 headed monster? Sure, that's a given. Try a potential 5 headed monster...

Beckett

Matsuzaka

Cain

Lester

Buchholz

And we even have Bowden left over...if he's left over I'm pretty sure we could deal him for a big bat loaded with talent.

God...to think about that rotation depresses me.

Can someone cite a legit source that says the Manny for Cain deal was on the table, and not just hearsay from Ken f***ing Rosenthal?

Good question Kilo and even better description of Ken Rosenthal. The guy is pure BS along the lines of that jerk on baseball tonight, Steve Phillips. There were only rumors of such a trade, ideas that were thrown out, nothing of substantial talks between Sabean and Epstein. I was online every day damn day this off season fuming about our collapse last year and you might have read by day one, day two, day twenty two, and all the non-action of our GM until he finally pulled the trigger on Drew and Lugo and Matsuzaka and Donnelly and Okijima. Hopefully, none of those bullets turn out to be long range blanks.

However, for concrete talks of such a trade, nada, zilch, nein, no mas, NYET!!!!!!!

I'd do it after this season, but I don't think I'd do it now. You really can't break up the 3-4 of the best team in baseball (I know they've hit the skids lately, but I do still feel as though they're the best team out there) in the middle of a season when you're in first place. That's a recipe for disaster if you ask me. This weakened rotation we have now (meaning the absence of Lester) has done enough to get us a (relatively) comfortable lead in the East. It's the most guaranteed (note: not COMPLETLEY guaranteed) a playoff spot has been to us at this point in the season since I can remember. You don't tamper with the key components of that. Sure, you can alter the things like Crisp in center and stuff like that...the auxilary components...but not the main core of our lineup.

Manny isn't swinging the bat exceptionally well right now by Manny standards, but anyone who thinks he's going to finish with less than 30 homeruns or 100 RBIs is on crack.

If the deal, that we have no evidence even really existed, is still on the table in the offseason, pull the trigger for sure. Right now, I've gotta stand firm and keep Manny's Sox red.

The deal wasnt being talked about it now. According to Rosenthal, it was talked about this past December. Sox couldve then swung around and signed Carlos Lee or trade off the more expendable pitching prospects (Bowden, Bard) for a power bat corner outfielder. With the season Cain is having now, I couldnt see the Giants being so dense that they would give him up for 1 year of Manny Ramirez in 2008. He does have 2 option years, but they are at $20 million apiece.

Seriously. I find it really hard to believe the Sox would turn down that deal when it was the best one they had gotten for a guy they've been trying to deal for years.
