It was notreally a big argument or scene caused by Ortiz. It's just a case of an egotistical umpire exerting his authority. The people that paid hundreds of dollars to go to the game just got robbed of seeing one of the games greats by an ump with a quick trigger. What an idiot!

1. Ortiz was arguing in the first inning of a tie game.

2. The call was not a terrible or incorrect call, either. In fact I think it was a strike.

3. As others have said, if he did not argue with the ump, the bat dropping would not have resulted in an ejection.

Umps triggers are too fast in general today. They are too confrontational. The ump should have walked away and dusted off the plate instead of eye-balling Papi all the way back to the dugout.

It was a close call, it could have gone either way. I still say that even if he didn't argue, but tossed his bat and helmet the way he did, he would have gotten tossed...umps do that all the time unless it's the 3rd out, because the batter then doesn't go back to the dugout.

Good job by NESN on replaying the Papi ejection....on further review i agree with 700, the ump was looking and just waiting to toss him.

Maybe this game can slowly get Tito into the thinking "Hey maybe Wily Mo should start getting playing time in center?"

I was thinking the same thing. It may be a blessing in disguise?

Haha, what am I thinking? Ortiz coming out of the lineup at this point in time is never a good thing.

That split screen shot of the Ump and Ortiz show how the ump was spoiling for a fight.

Thank you, I agree 100%. I could see if Ortiz did it at home plate but he was all the way in front of the dugout. Even then he wasnt looking back as he dropped his helmet and bat hard onto the ground.

EDIT: Bases loaded no outs with Manny/Youk/Lowell coming up.. 1 run. I am happy they got the lead, but they have been allowing too many pitchers get away with murder this month

So you think it's perfectly OK to argue the way he did in the first inning of a tie game?

Shut the f*** up please.

he ran awkwardly to first, then bent over as if he twisted something. He may not have done enough to make him come out of the game, but he sure felt something.

I know you're very in tune with other males' groins, but he runs that way through the bag all the damn time.

So again, shut the f*** up please.

No, but he didn't toss him for the argument. He tossed him for slamming his equipment down in front of the dugout.

Wisdom teeth actually. Why don't you go eat s*** instead of saying things like "Youks hurt himself when he ran awkwardly", especially when he runs like the time?

Go watch your 45 year old injury risk.

Wow, are you f***ing serious? Of all the people to bash you're gonna bash Youkilis.

Youk couldn't run any slower if he injured himself, so it doesn't matter.

I didn't read that as a bash.

He was saying that Jacko was hoping that Youkilis was hurt. (Not in a sadistic way)
