Anyone see the pitching matchups for the next 5 days?

Tonight's game may be the most winnable of the 5.

Schilling vs Fogg- edge Schill. Sox should cruise

Beckett vs Francis- push. Soft tossing lefty with strikeout pitch vs sox best pitcher

Tavarez vs Zito- edge Zito. SOft tossing lefty with strikeout pitch vs sox worst pitcher

Cain vs Matsuzaka- edge Cain. Cain is one of the best pitchers in all of baseball

Wakefield vs Morris- push. Morris has been unreal this yr, mid 2's ERA, 7-3.

After tonight's game, the sox O will certainly be tested.

No way Beckett vs. Francis is a push...noooo way. Beckett has been one of the top 10, if not top 5, pitchers in baseball this year.

the only reason why it is a push is because you guys struggle mightily against soft tossing lefties. And he is one of the best in the business.

one of the best? i can name 10 just on the top of my head that are better than francis

You are not giving him his due. He's the Rockies best pitcher.

That is like being the smartest kid with one too many chromosome. There is no way the best Red Sox pitcher is a push going up against a soft tossing pitcher that happens to be the best pitcher for the Rockies. This is more of an indictment of how poor the Rockies staff is since the best pitcher they have is a soft tossing lefty.

Are you aware of the Red Sox track record against soft tossing lefties?

the best offense he has faced thus far is the braves who ranked 11 in the majors for runs scored and he got knocked around in that game . he hasent even faced a top offensive team yet

Since the Giants have been having trouble beating anybody except the Dodgers I wouldn't be too concerned for our safety. Something tells me we're going to be fine when the week ends. You might start concerning yourself with the Mets. After being embarrassed by the laughable Dodgers twice already this week they will be angry enough to want to dismantle Yankee Stadium when they get there this weekend. But thank's for the warning anyway.

You really have a lot of trouble keeping two separate thoughts together, don't you? Didn't I read in your pithy private message just a tad ago that the Yankees are coming and we'll be in deep s***? Something like I will be long dead before the Red Sox win another WS Title? I'm trying to figure out if you're the Winchell or Mahoney in this saga, either the puppet master or the dummy.

Feel free to keep posting your inane comments but a gentle warning to you Dodgerman. The Angels are coming to your house this weekend and you know what that means? DEAD MEN WALKING!!!!!!!! I wonder why your team cannot beat another California team in a series? Swept by the Giants at home, swept in Anaheim, swept in San Diego. I might even send you a broom to clear your thoughts after this weekend.

Still, it's very nice that you keep worrying about us. Keep the good thoughts coming.

You're forgetting about the Dodgers' first weekend series in San Francisco when we swept them in their own house. And the Mets are 2-9 in the month of June. I don't think they're that much better than the Dodgers.

I really dont think this will be a tough test coming up.

I think a tough test would be kinda some of the teams weve already went through (anaheim, oakland, cleveland...and yes even the yankees :D) The NL just doesnt scare me that much, especially a bunch of soft tossing lefties.

They are playing the Rockies and Giants......a real tough test?, come on man...lets be realistic. Even if they throw gems, they will still most likely lose seeing how both teams are under .500 on the season which tells me....in general they just arent very good ballclubs. PLUS they play in the godforsaken NL West.

The only guy on either one of those staffs I would consider a "tough" test would have been Linecum since we havent seen him yet and he has that unique throwing motion.

Zito is 5-5, 4.78 ERA against the Sox lifetime, with 35 walks and 10 home runs in 79 innings. The soft tossing lefty status hasn't really affected us.

Fogg and Morris have each faced the Sox once lifetime. Morris threw a complete game allowing 1 run, and Fogg went 7 allowing 5.

Posted
And Matt Cain hasn't been exactly stellar this season. He has averaged about a walk every other inning, bad K/walk ratio, 1.32 whip, 3.31ERA in the weakest division in baseball. The Red Sox are the most patient team in baseball. I expect him to give up a handful of walks and give up at least 3-4 runs. Tavarez has look great in the last 4 starts and our pen has been one of the best in baseball. We will do fine.

Morris could very well pitch well.....you expect him too anyway.

IMO Fogg doesnt stand a snowballs chance in hell.

Cain doesn't pitch in the NL Central.

I know a lot of you are put off by the DodgerBlues people here, but to call the NL West the weakest division is stretching it.

Dude Josh Beckett is 10 million times better than Francis. Josh Beckett has been one of the best pitchers in baseball this year by far. The Rockies pitching is nothing to fear and neither is that of the Giants the only pitcher on San Fran that is even someone to worry about is Matt Morris and that's when he's completely on his game.

OK...tradionally....like every year since basbeall was invented they are the worst division in baseball....but this year, the NL Central seems to be worse.

If you put the Orioles or Jays in either one of those divisions you are looking at at least a 3rd place....maybe a second place team.

Those teams would get eaten alive in the AL east

The Central has been the worst the last two years. The West gets a lot of bad press because of 2005, but before that, I can't think of any other year in which it was terrible. Maybe 1984, 1987, 1994, or 1999-2000.

No Rodney, I'm not forgetting the Dodgers sweep of the Giants in SF back in April, but you might remind Metropolitan Cowboy about it. He thinks the Dodgers swept the Giants at Dodger Stadium. Why? Well I'll keep my opinions to myself.

At present the Mets are no better than the Dodgers; you are right about that. Perhaps they are waiting to take on the Yankees.

as you can see....it has been historically a weak division....

Only if you count the last-place team. I'm looking at the top of the division. Last year, two teams made the postseason from the West. In 2003-2004, three teams finished at .500 or better. Same with 1998. By that logic, the AL East is also historically bad, since they have the Orioles and Devil Rays dragging down the division.

cmon now. The NL West has been putrid until this season. You do know that the last time an NL West team won a playoff series, it was 2002. Since 2002, the NL West has won 2, that is 2 playoff games in a total of 5 series (4 NLW winners and one wild card). The playoff record is 2-15. That is gross.

Actually, it's 3 playoff games.

By that logic, was the NL Central the strongest division last year?
