I heard this interview driving home yesterday. Gammons adamant conclusion was that Scott Boras' people didn't know what they were doing and that they should NOT be listening to Boras. They ARE not prolonging the careers of these players but are instead ruining them.

Gammons also thought that Teixiera didn't listen to his hitting coach, who is highly regarded, in favor of Boras' people and that this was to his detriment. He also concluded that DiceK doesn't listen to Boras at all.

"The relationship between DiceK and John Farrell is very strong" said Gammons.

The day Borass walks away from the game will be one of the greatest days in baseball history.

I wonder if he'll get a season's ticket next to Jerry Kapstein.

5.5 ERA' date=' 2.06WHIP, 6.5 BB per 9 and a .305 BAA. There is no saving grace for this guy, he has completely and totally regressed. Remember, last yr he dominated AAA.[/quote']

Before Theo fed him to the sharks. That was a chum bag on the mound with him, there was no rosin in it.

No excuses please. He gets paid to perform. Face it, maybe he really wasnt that guy we expected him to be. He was drafted as a closer, can you picture anyone in that role now besides Paps? He doesnt have much value with that kind of signing bonus as a MR pitcher who cant throw strikes or get anyone out. I am also sure his trade value is 0 since all teams can look up the same information we can.

You know if he's that big of a pussy that he can't rebound from getting shelled in the majors, then the Red Sox should release him.

My thought process tends to fall in line with yours, Crespo. If the guy isn't mentally strong enough to overcome those struggles then he's not mentally strong enough to play in Boston, among other cities.

Id actually be very interested to see where yazman is getting his information from about him not being mentally tough enough. The story that appeared makes sense, his mechanics were messed up and he completely lost his dominant slider. No he wasnt drafted a dud, he had an extremely good slider and fastball combo when he was drafted and lost it and the results haven't been pretty. There's no rebounding when you don't have your normal stuff to begin with, are we basing this mentally tough thing on him having a lot of struggles? Is Casey Fossum not mentally tough enough to handle pitching for TB?

That's a load of crap. The learning curve for pitchers is the steepest for all players. Anybody who's played much competitive baseball knows it's not what you're throwing so much as when and where you throw it. Very few guys can come right up to pitch and stick for good in the show. Last year he should have been sent down after a few tough outings if they valued him, if you remember his first call up wasn't that bad but last year they hung him out to dry. Maybe he won't ever wind up being the stud the Sox projected him to be, but by handling him the way they did they've almost assured that.

There is still plenty of hope for Craig Hansen.

There are plenty of closers in the game at this moment...who had seasons in the minors and majors where they struggled trying to find there "stuff"....it takes time to find your tempo, mechanics, arm slot, whatever but once it clicks the reliever can start focusing on how to attack hitters.

Jonathan Papelbon is our closer so perhaps we don't need Craig Hansen as a closer....but wouldn't it be nice if he put up "closer like numbers" in the future. We have all seen how valuable Hideki Okajima has been this season. If Craig Hansen can eventually become that player then we have a long history ahead of us with a great 1-2 punch at the end of a game.

...I also don't think the book is closed on the possibility of Papelbon being in the rotation. Those questions will continue to rise when you look at the comparison of Papelbon to the likes of Clemens and Schilling (lethal fastball command with a filthy splitter).

Do you think he's ruined, because he was shelled in the big leagues?

Not ruined, it will just take more time for him to develope the confidence he needs to take the mound and be successful. That, and now he'll have hitters coming to the plate feeling as if he's very hittable. Mindset at the major league level is a huge factor when the diffiference in ability between the haves and the have nots is such a slim margin. I'm a big believer in self-fulfilling prophecies as well.

after a 2 inning, 5 K performance tonight, Hansen over his last 6 appearances:

11.2 IP, 13 hits, 2 BB, 18 K, 0.77 ERA

hits are high, but you got to love the 13.85 K/9 and 9.0 K/BB.

EDIT: His BABIP is probaly over .400 now during that stretch also

Great numbers out of Craig there. I hope he can keep developing into a reliable middle relief guy that the Sox can use possibly down the stretch run of the season.
