He referenced the fact CLE and LA are tied before the "if"' date=' so he's making it dependent on how they finish relative to each other. He's not aware of the new rule.[/quote']

I really think he was talking about them being tied to show that there's a good chance for us to face Celevland after the reg. season games are played since LAA and the Guardians are in a tie with 2 weeks left.

I sere what you are saying, and I had the new rule mixed up in my head. They get to pick the schedule, not the opponent.

We finished our last tough game of the season (sans the one time we face Halladay) with a 3 game L column lead.

Correct me if I'm wrong but don't you also face Shields and Kazmir?

We showed once again that we are the sox daddies by taking 9 of the last 12 including the last 4 of 6 in the fens.

Obligatory troll comment. Not even worth responding to.

Right now the Guardians and the Angels are tied for the 2nd best record in the league and if things break right for us, we could be starting our series in the Jake while you guys start yours in Fenway knowing you have a cross country trip or two in your future.

You want Carmona and Sabathia in a short series? I guess you should feel more confident there but the way Wang and Pettite looked this weekend I wonder if you should have some concerns.

Either way, the WC is in our hands, we have 13 games left, 6 against Baltimore without any of their pitchers, 3 in Tampa against the hapless Rays, and 4 home vs Toronto who have already packed it in. If we lose this, it would be one hell of a collapse.

This I can't disagree with, although the Yankees know a little something about historic collapses.

Oh and btw. Saying that the WC is not over is akin to saying the division is not over as we are only 4 back in the L column for the division while the Tigers are 3 back. Very similar circumstances. Both teams leading said races have cupcakes the rest of the way and it would take a monumental collapse to see a change at the top.

Once again, you assume a win for that game that needs to be made up which is foolish to consider.

And one game difference when there is only twelve to go is significant. The one game means a hell of a lot more.

Kilo, I'm not saying that you want to face Sabathia and Carmona, but I don't think the combination of Lackey and Escobar is that much worse.

On top of that, the Yankees have played extremely well against the Guardians this year.

Neither of those teams are easy by any means, but, for the Yankees, I think Cleveland would be a better matchup for them.

It could easily be argued that the Red Sox outplayed the Yankees this series, and should have swept them. To say that the Yankees are the Red Sox "daddies" is really pushing it.

I completely agree about the wild card being in the Yankees hands. They are not exactly facing top-notch competition and they have a 2.5 game lead.

But honestly, when you're talking about how many games one team leads another by, at least say the Yankees are up 2.5 in the wild card, but 3 in the loss column. As Kilo said, by only referring to the loss column you're assuming that each team wins their games in hand. The loss column may be slightly more important, but it's not the only thing that counts.

Gotta love this line on ESPN.com:

• From watching him overthrow his cutoff man in an attempt to throw runners out at the plate, there's only one possible conclusion: Johnny Damon is the only guy who doesn't understand how terrible his arm really is.

Detroit lost today, but Seattle won. Although the Yankees are five games ahead of Detroit, while they're six games ahead of Seattle, the magic number to eliminate both teams from wild card contention is six. This is because both teams are even in the loss column.

The Mariners were officially eliminated from playoff contention when they lost to the Cleveland Guardians 4-3 in extra innings.

The magic number remains at one game to clinch. For reasons I stated in the Yankee's GT I'm confident that this ends tonight.

Yep, I actually saw a lot of relief on the faces of the Yankees when they clinched it. The past decade + I haven't and feel like Yankee fans just take it for granted. This season I don't believe that is the case and I appreciate watching it.
