Please let this be his coming out party. Looking great tonight.

This has been a good night to get the ole' MLB.tv subscription.

I don't know who is lucky enough to have the Arizona feed for this game, but I am very impressed with it. In all seriousness. Matt Williams is doing color commentary, and they have a mic on the DBacks' hitting coach and he's been breaking down Beckett. They are giving tons of respect to the Sox and talk a whole lot about little interesting things.

I don't watch the Diamondbacks very often and don't think I've ever sat down and watch an entire D-backs game, but I'm impressed.

EDIT: picked up Drew in my fantasy league last night, too bad I didn't start him thinking Tito would play Pena against the lefty! D'oh for me, woo hoo! for Francona!

thats what im talking about JD!! wheres all the jd hatters now?

It would be nice if they said a simple "Thanks."

I liked the signing (yeah, bloated contract, but that was the market...) and haven't stopped liking it. Patience is a virtue with new players. Now, I'm not saying that I think he'll take off from here, but it was very promising.

Red Sox, JD had a great game. But one game doesn't change the fact that he has absolutely sucked the last 2 months. I hope he goes on a tear and turns his season around. But the crizism is well justified.

He was actually did pretty damn well in the first month. He just sucked so horribly in May that it single-handedly killed what he accomplished in April.

If this game is the start of a hot streak for him, then you and the whiny crew like you have a big plate of crow to eat. If that happens, perhaps the next time you feel like going on a suck-rant you'll remember that there are 6 months, not 1.5, and 162 games, not 40 in a season. Doubtful, but you might remember it.

Good for 18, aweful for 33.

Eh, to each his own. Doesn't matter. Tonight could be a big lift for him. Hopefully he can use the familiar pitchers and ballparks to his advantage and have it carry over to when interleague play is over. We need him to wield a hot bat...that much we can agree on.

ORS, I'll help with the crow feeding. But anyway, keep on truckin' with your mojo! Do you have any suggestions for the next lucky "Real Man of Genius" ?

Ted, stop splitting hairs over Drew. I should be more pissed off at his slump than you were because I was one of the biggest boosters of the guy and was beginning to look like a fool with his prolonged slump. Tonight he came through big for all of us and I can tell you this: We get our three, four and five hitters all hitting in sync like I know they can we will be very tough to beat. Remember, Pedroia, Youkalis and Lowell have been doing their jobs and this could be our chance to really start playing consistent ball from here on in.

Having Schilling and Beckett go back-to-back as they did has to be a real shot in the arm for all of us. Tomorrow?? We need to keep getting solid pitching and good clutch hitting and I hope Julian steps up tomorrow with his teammates giving him good offensive support.

Amazing. The Youking is almost as loud in friggin Arizona.

Youk of the Nation, what is so amazing about it? Come on, you should know as well as anyone about Red Sox Nation. Fans of our team are all over the country and in large numbers and most of them are not from Massachusetts or even New England. Get bit by the Red Sox bug and it become very contagious. Just look at me. Ever see a more out of control nut than me??? Well, I got a good night's sleep last night and I think it will be very pleasant this night as well. Very good win.

ORS, what words do I have to eat? I haven't predicted how his season would end. I have been judging him by what he has DONE. Actions speak louder than words. He was terrible for the first 2 months of the season. There is good reason to criticize a $14 million guy who is in a huge slump. And his injury history concerns me. Its a risk. And again, JD Drew will not reach his potential and put together a great season.

That being said, I hope this is a turning point. I already "congradulated" him in this thread for his big day. It's a step. All I care about is consistancy though. Sample size. I'm not going to go into a love fest with him because he has one good day. If he can pull it together and start hitting better, then he will "win" me over. But he hasn't done that yet. Actions. I don't care about talk. I hope he does put it together and has a great rest of the season. But prior to this game, he has sucked, and one game doesn't change that. He had far more aweful games this season than good ones. But lets hope he changes that. THAT was the point of my post.

Red, I didn't know you were a big J.D. fan; good to see it. I was getting a little nervous about him because I was one of his biggest boosters and his slump was making me look very foolish. Good to see have a big game tonight. We not only needed it; he needed it and all Drew fans needed it. I'll tell you this, if our three to five hitters get real hot and hit in sync we are going to be very tough to beat, especially if we get the pitching we did the last two days. Now if only the backend of our rotation can step up.

I believe thats you predicting how his season will end

Again, like its been said before, he has had one good month/one awful month

riverside, its common sense. He has little chance to reach his career averages for a full season (20+HR, 80-100RBI). He probably could hit .290 by the end of the season, but 80- 100RBI and 20HR is a stretch at this point. I'm not saying he can't do it, but is a fat chance.

Thats not saying he won't be great from here on out, but to think he will play way above the way he ever has for a 4 month stretch (yes, another slump could really hurt his numbers this year) is a stretch. Again, its possible, but not likely. I've looked through his game logs, and he hasn't been a very streaky hitter. You can reasonably put a celling on his numbers this far into the season (or anyones for that matter). Again, I'm not hating on him, but he has yet to prove himself. One game means nothing. He needs to be consistant and get a hot streak going. I appreciate the game today. I LIKED seeing JD break out in the game. I hope it means good things to come, but I can't assume that.

Amazing. The Youking is almost as loud in friggin Arizona.

I was there, it was awesome. The "Let's go Red Sox!" Chants were also very loud and were drowning the few D'Back fans chants. It was, and I kid you not, probably 80-20 Red Sox Fans to D'Back fans, if even that. My section (right next to the Red Sox bullpen) was almost entirely Red Sox fans. I saw maybe 10. Also some dumb moron Yankee fan was leading a "Yankee's Suck!" chant...I couldn't believe it. And two fights broke out also. Couldn't tell totally because they were kinda far away but I saw a Jeter jersey leave shortly after the first one broke up, but can't say for certain he was involved.

So, I tried to get tickets for tomorrow's game and the lady at the ticket booth said standing room only. And her reasoning was because of the Randy Johnson bobblehead giveaway. I couldn't help but laugh. The place draws 26,000 on a normal day and brings 40,000 when the Red Sox are in town and you're going to tell me it's standing room only because of a bobble head?

Great game! Drew was awesome, Beckett was awesome. When Manny got beamed, all the guys around me were calling for Gonzalez to get nailed by Beckett, cause from our vantage point it looked like he got hit in the head. Good thing hes fine. Anyway, what a night! My first ever Red Sox game live, and we win huge! B)
