Im not going to lie, after April, I was like everyone else saying that we should have resigned Loretta, picked up another 2nd baseman or that Cora should be giving the starting job. Thank god Tito kept playing him casue from May till the present, Pedroia has proved everyone that doubted him wrong and has played amazingly. Right now, i think he is a very strong canidate for ROY, and probably deserves a spot on the all-star team. So consider this thread like an appreciaton thread for Dustin.

look at these numbers since May (79 AB's): .443 AVG, .489 OBP, .646 SLG%, only 3 K's

hopefully he can keep this up and be a huge help to the top of the lineup.

Like I've said before, I'm not ready to crown him Prince just yet...but I'm ridiculously excited about the way he's been playing lately. I hope he can perform even close to this level for years to come.

If he is capapble of hot streaks like this in the majors, he will stick and he will contribute. Even if he cools down, its hard to imagine him being as cold as he was at the start of the season now that he has established himself in the majors. He has hit at .300 or above at every level he has played in, why not the majors? I don't know about .340 or whatever he is at, but hes got talent.

This is what happens when you ignore the knee jerk reactions to a bad start. We've been saying all along he has just as good of a bat as Lorretta(better actuallu know at the moment) and a better fielder. Some people on here are starting to act like Yankee fans, if the player isnt a name or an all star or leading the league in batting categorys you want his head on a platter and have some big expensive name brought in. Hopefully this will be a lesson to all in patience. Not saying he will preform like this all year or even his career, but this shows you whats hes capable of on any given day.

I think some of us knew this would happen, he seemed to start out slow at AAA too and then just went on a tear. And batting .600+ last week is a pretty big f***in tear. Mark my words, Drew will turn it around as well, and everyone doubting him will make posts like this as well.

Pedroia said earlier in the year (per Jerry Remy) that when he gets hot, he really gets hot. And he is proving it now. Obviously this isnt the total package he will give you all season, but he seems like a very streaky player. Peaks and valleys.
Posted
Jacko, as Ive said before because Ive tracked his progress... the only really cold streaks for him have been when the season first starts and each time he's gotten to the next level of his pro-career. Sure there'll be spurts as all major leaguers do have, but as the season is going and weather is warming up, dont expect them to last long

its a little different in the majors though. Teams will adjust to him and it will be up to him to adjust back. The last few days, the yankee pitching thought they could sneak the heat by him up. That doesnt work. Time to find a hole and attack it.

Good luck on that search. The kid has exceptional hand-eye coordination. He's got 101 XBH's to 77 K's in the minors over 3 seasons. He sees the ball well, and he puts the bat on it.

everybody has a hole. Everybody has a weakness. Right now the kid is hitting everything thrown his way.

Judging from what I've seen thus far, I don't think that his weakness, whatever it may be, will turn him into the .230 hitter he was to start the season.

I think Pedroia can bring some pop along the line, he already has the big swing and it's compact... has anyone else noticed that the non-big name player have been our best players... Youk(23 games HS, .350AVG), Lowell(.333AVG, Team High 11HR & 45 RBIs, Pedroia .336AVG, has just been on fire)...

I'd say the sox have one of the best all around lineups in the AL... other than Coco and Lugo, everyone else is doing great well Ortiz is in a slump and Drew's injured, maybe Wily Mo can pick him up

I agree. This kid is a good player.

Why don't we play Cora more often than Lugo. Tito should do with Lugo what he did with Pedrioa, and make Cora an every other day player switching with Lugo.
Posted
Im still behind Lugo because Ive seen the seasons he's been capable of having when he was with the Devil Rays 03-1st half of 06. He has too much talent to be batting in the .220s. Tho it takes Tito a long time to move a player in the lineup, maybe it would be best to push Lugo down to 9th spot. A pitcher opening the game against Youkilis, Pedroia, Ortiz wll more times than naught have to throw a lot of pitches that first inning

When was the last time Lugo actually got a solid base hit? I don't mean one of these groundballs that finds a hole; I mean a hot shot. It seems like awhile ago. I'm still behind Lugo because he has gotten some RBIs from the leadoff spot, but if this continues something will need to change.

I completely agree.

I think Lugo and Crisp should hit back to back. That would turn a lot of walks and singles into stolen bases. Combined they should be on base about 2 times, and they can steal and be on second. With the top of the order coming up it would be likely for them to be hit in if either is standing on second.

Youk

Pedrioa

Ortiz

Ramirez

Lowell

Drew

Tek

Lugo

Coco

That would please me to see that lineup.

Pedroia doesnt need to bring any pop. His swing was very long at the beginning of the season, he looked like he was trying to crush everything and he struggled badly. No hes going the other way and shortened his swing up and now is doing well. He doesnt need to swing for the fences...

They already are hitting back to back, aside from the first inning. The batting order is pretty much how i wanted it to be in Kilo's thread. If Lugo has 33 RBIs now, how many will he have when his OBP isnt 290? Give him time says I.

Did you see him last night? He's still taking monster rips, it's just working out now.

his swing hasnt changed one bit. He was swinging balls out as much last night as he was in the beginning of the season. He is just locked in right now.

Yes his swing has changed. From when he was first called up thru April he was pressing too hard with that homerun slugger type swing (no doubt trying to impress and first time jitters). After spending time with hitting coach Magadan, he has calmed down on it and is just going with the pitch. Ever since college he's been a solid gap drive hitter. He should probably have 30-40 doubles by season's end

Well, technically, Jacko is right, he hasn't changed the swing much. He is, like RS said, just going with the pitch. His biggest problem early on was turning over and weakly grounding outer half pitches. Now he's just going the other way with the ball, but it's still with the same big cut.

Ahem... Pedroia has been named the AL Rookie of the Month for May and was also the AL player of the week. The first 2 months for AL Rookie of the Month has gone to Red Sox (Okajima, Pedroia)

I remember seeing on Sons of Sam Horn that since May 3rd when he struck out swinging he has swung at 139 balls and missed 4 times
