Okajima is the surprise of the season so far. No one expected him to pitch like this, just like no one thought Papelbon would be the closer he was last year. I like these surprises.

what an awesome day for the pitching staff. Tavarez gives us a virtuoso performance. Schilling finds a way to last 6 innings without having anything, Okajima pitches 2 perfect innings, Donnelly with a solid outing and Papelbon being Papelbon. nice to get wins when the bats are silent

LOVE that Dirty Water!

Boston 28-12

NYY 18-21

Sox take 3-4 from Detroit (24-16, 23-13 entering the series).

It really just doesn't get better than this in the regular season. Game after game every single player has something to contribute. Everyone is doing their job and making things happen.

With a lot of teams that get off to starts like this I always tell myself "Minnesota (or Oakland, or Seattle, or Detroit, or whoever it has been recently) isn't as good as they look." I'm pretty sure this team is at LEAST as good as they have looked, if not better. Offensively they aren't clicking on all fronts, but they are certainly getting it done.

They are just fun to watch, all professional, all quality players. This team has an enormous Ceranno who can hit with tremendous power, they have the 2002 rookie of the year, and they have this year's hero who seems able to play any MI position with + defense, manage to NOT strikeout or hit into double plays. ON THE BENCH! Francona does a nice job of mixing everyone into the fold and keeping guys fresh.

Great series, let's keep it rolling.

EDIT: this team would win 112 games at this rate. It certainly has been done.

Woooooo! I thought for sure that my mojo was going to live only one day because normally we always split double headers, but it lives on!

Long live the Rocky mojo!

I wasn't sure about the Rocky mojo considering that Stallone was caught with steroids not too long ago but I was wrong and I couldn't be more happy to admit it.

edit: by the way, i just now saw the Hinske play... Unreal. Un-f***ing-real.

its Rocky mojo, not Stallone mojo. Rocky was a down on his luck fighter from the rough streets of Philadelphia who lived the american dream. thats good mojo

Well, Stallone wasn't my motivation, it was moreso that the "Eye of the Tiger" mojo worked for Julian, so I just went with Rocky-themed mojo. If I had based the mojo on Stallone, we never would have won tonight :D

Anyway, looks like Hansack's starting tomorrow. Just heard it on the postgame.

so its Hansack tomorrow' date=' Dice-K Saturday, probably Gabbard Sunday and Wakefield Monday in the Bronx[/quote']

I'd rather have Wakefield on Sunday and Gabbard on Monday. The Yankees can't touch soft-tossing lefties. Nevermind soft-tossing lefties that they've barely seen before.

Red Sox manager Terry Francona said Josh Beckett will be placed on the DL and miss two starts because of the avulsion on his right middle finger.

A 9 1/2-game lead does tend to breed caution. Because Beckett is going on the DL, the Red Sox can call up Devern Hansack to start Friday. Kason Gabbard will likely to Sunday. The pitching matchups for the series at Yankee Stadium next week will be: Tim Wakefield vs. Mike Mussina on Monday, Curt Schilling vs. Chien-Ming Wang on Tuesday amd Julian Tavarez vs. Andy Pettitte on Wednesday.

I can't believe they gave him a double on that. It was an easy Flyout that Hinske read HORRIBLY. I mean' date=' so far on 2 FO to him, he nearly f***ed up the first one, and miss read and missed the 2nd one. Great Hinske, f***ing great.[/quote']

I don't want to see Hinske at the plate period. Put Lugo back in there' date=' or tell Nancy Drew to stop crying over a broken nail and pickup the bat. Ok, now im just complaining. But yea, I can't stand seeing Hinske in LF and in the lineup.[/quote']

How can we not be tearing an ******* for Durbin.

BTW: Hinske can't come in or go back on a ball. He should be an emergency OF.., He should only play the OF when everyone else has the plague.

It's good thing Coco didn't strikeout there. That way' date=' while we may be losing in terms of runs, at least we aren't losing in terms of strikeouts, and everyone knows how important that is. Good job Coco.[/quote']

Tonight was absolutely freezing. Schilling didn't have it all night-seems like he got in a jam every inning. He was lucky to go 6 innings and post the numbers he did. Bullpen was good, Hinske had an absolutely fan f***ing tabulous catch and a game winning jack.

4-2 win, sweep the DH, take 3 of 4, improve the record to 28-12. It's niiice.

Despite tonight's heroics, I really hope that Hinske's fututre playing time is in the IF, and I hope there isn't another game where Hinske and Pena are at the OF corners.

Great game, great series. But realistically, Hinske was terrible in RF the first 2 innings, granted the wind did play with the ball, but still. But he dialed it up and made a great catch and the big 2R HR, so all in all, he had a great game.

I agree, but it says a lot about this team to win without Lugo, Drew and Ortiz in the lineup.
