You can't use superglue' date=' it would doctor the ball.[/quote']

Imagine throwing a pitch and the ball sticking to the bat, or Jeter's head while he lays on the ground drooling.

What sucks about tonight's game being postponed is that now we have Tavarez going on 4 days rest against the Yanks on Monday. What I hope to see is Beckett back on Monday on extended rest and then have Schilling and Matsuzaka pitch on normal 5 days rest to finish out the series. That's best case scenario, obviously. Then, if Beckett's back on Monday against the Yanks in the first place, hopefully he can take Tavarez's spot again that following Saturday against the Rangers after an off day on Thursday. That postpones Tavarez for 2 starts...I like. Luckily, whoever gets called up from Pawtucket is facing Lerew, so we should win that game anyway (thank God our call-up is going against a NL lineup, even if it is Atlanta that we're facing).

Ive always liked Gabbard and look forward to see what he can do against this Braves lineup. He did have his bumps with control, as all rookies tend to do, but still came out with a respectable 3.51 ERA in the majors. Here's his stats from Pawtucket this year.

8 starts (3-1, 2.75 ERA)

39.1 innings, 32 Hits, 13 Runs (12 ER), 5 HRs, 12 Walks, 35 Ks

It won't be Matsuzaka on Wednesday. He's throwing Saturday, so his 4 days of rest are Sun-Wed. So, best case scenario, it's Beckett, Schilling, Tavarez/Gabbard. Worst case is Spot Starter #2, Schilling, Tavarez/Gabbard.

Oh, damn. You're right. I completely got the whole extrapolation of the rotation messed up in my head. Hopefully we can have scenario 1 and pitch Gabbard instead of Tavarez. The Yanks have a lot of trouble with guys like Gabbard.

Red Sox manager Terry Francona said Josh Beckett will be placed on the DL and miss two starts because of the avulsion on his right middle finger.

A 9 1/2-game lead does tend to breed caution. Because Beckett is going on the DL, the Red Sox can call up Devern Hansack to start Friday. Kason Gabbard will likely to Sunday. The pitching matchups for the series at Yankee Stadium next week will be: Tim Wakefield vs. Mike Mussina on Monday, Curt Schilling vs. Chien-Ming Wang on Tuesday amd Julian Tavarez vs. Andy Pettitte on Wednesday. I don't like rolling out two bags of s*** (Hansack and Gabbar) in the next five days against tough teams. Hopefully, the Mets clean the Yankees clock and we don't lose ground. After that, we need Tavarez to keep coming up big to make up for the fact that we will have a parade of bums in the 5th slot until Beckett comes back.

Where have all the Yankee fans gone. I guess they are trolls.

700, I say this with a bit of caution because I myself have posted some very controversial missives in the past on this board, but, please, take this advice from your friend here. LET SLEEPING DOGS SLEEP!!!!!!! No need to wake up the hordes of Yankees and post any material that will incite those masses of trolls. Let them stew in their own juices while we take it one game at a time and work our way through our injuries and keep playing solid baseball. Besides, we have a three game series with the Braves; let that be our concern right now.:o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o

What are the Sox supposed to do then? Their hands are tied with Beckett going on the DL and thses double headers coming to play, how about the Sox take Beckett of the DL and put the other pitchers out there on short rest

I am not blaming anyone for the predicament. I realize that Beckett is injured and that the schedule has caused them to bring up Hansack and Gabbard, but does that mean I have to feel good about it? Keep your sarcasm, because it is misplaced here. Do you feel good about rolling two bags of s*** against a solid Braves team. The only comfort I take from this weekend is that the Mets will be wrestling the Yankees to the ground. After this weekend, we'll need Tavarez to be solid, because the 5th slot will be very inconsistent with Hansack, Gabbard et al. Do you also disagree with this statement? Maybe you should figure out what people mean before you dash off your sarcastic replies? Are you such a FO office ballwasher that you have knee jerk reactions to defend the FO and management even when no one is leveling criticism at them?

Yea sure I love every front office move, shouldve seen my threads thanking the Sox for acquiring such greats like Rudy Seanez, Mike Remlinger, Jason Johnson, etc.

Yea it sucks that the Sox dont have their best 3 starters out there but you never know what can happen with this team. Im at least keeping my hopes up that Hansack & Gabbard (or one of them) will deliver decent outings. I dont think that its 100% automatic that they'll go 4 innings or less and give up 6 or 7 runs. Who knows if the Sox will be able to get all 3 games in this wknd

I am sure no one in the organization is thrilled to have Hansack and Gabbard pitching on consecutive days. Anything can happen, but there is good reason why Vegas will have the Sox as huge underdogs in the Gabbard game vs. Hudson. Beyond this weekend Tavarez and Hansack/Gabbard will each get two more starts. If they don't give us some quality starts, it could impact the bullpen.

All I can say is, roll out the kids against the Braves and save the horses for NY. The Braves are anywhere from 3-4 wins over their 1st, 2nd, and 3rd order Pythagenport records. In other words, about 10% of the games they've played have resulted in wins that should have been losses. The Yankees are a sleeping giant. Use the horses in NY.

Here's a dose of good news coming your way Red. The Yankees are still a sleeping Giant. The Mets just beat them tonight, 3-2, and I say let's put as much distance between us and them as is possible. They are a very good team, only a moron would deny that, but they are in a funk right now and we must do all we can to make all the hay we can and keep these guys way behind in our rear view mirror.

God, stop calling the Yankees a sleeping giant. Sure, they are good because of their offense, but seriously, they're a 85-90 win team and any yankee fan that doesn't have their head up their ass will tell you so. That is not a f***ing giant. They're in it, yes, but christ, they aren't going to come to the ball park one day and decide to go on a 30 game winning streak because they don't have the goddamn pitching! The bullpen is awful, the starters are weak outside of maybe wang. Pettitte has question marks, but has done a lot to shed those so far so maybe include him too, but those guys aren't "aces" by any means, but they're pretty solid. Outside of that, you have mussina whose four seamer isn't getting north of 85 and whose 2-seamer was a laughable 81 mph against the ChiSox. Clemens will help when comes back, but he needs to be bailed out by the bullpen and last year, averaging 5.2 innings per start, he was getting bailed out by a very solid group in Qualls and Wheeler. So, while he'll be ok (the velocity needs to come up but he has plenty of time to get that back, but the bite isn't there either) he won't be resting anyone out in their pen. Therefore, the yankees are not a giant. Their offense is a giant, but their pitching staff is panty waste. If they turn around and trade humberto sanchez and jose tabata for Roy Oswalt, well, then I'll start worrying. If they can move melky and someone for a good reliever, then its a dog fight. Right now, as long as the Sox stay healthy and keep playing well, it's more like a rabbit vs. tortoise type deal.

Ksushi, it depends on how you look at the Yankees and what your vantage point is. I happen to have had many very sad experiences seeing the Yankees beat up on my teams; first the Brooklyn Dodgers of my youth and of the past seven seasons the Red Sox. To be sure we have gotten our share of licks in the last few years, but for some reason the Yankees have had an inordinate amount of lucky breaks to go with their plethora of talent. I never underestimate them and neither should you or anyone othe Red Sox fan. If they get decent pitching from Mussina, Wang, Pettitte, Clemens and Hughes when the latter two join them, with the hitting they have they could prove formidable. We must do everything to stomp on their necks while they are down and do NOT let them up. We give them some breathing room and a chance to get off the floor it could come back to bite us on the ass. I didn't mean to upset your apple cart but I know the Yankees better than you do----UNFORTUNATELY. This history now goes back 60 seasons.

Fred' date=' come on now. The only thing that matters is the current Yankees team. You don't know this team any better than anyone else on this board.[/quote']

Schill, no, I don't know this current Yankee team better than anyone else, but I have enough mental scars from their history of the last 60 years to know that they seem to always bump into lucky breakes. What does amaze me is that they have had two very bad eras in that time, 1965-1975 and 1982-1993 and that still amazes me. The only thing more amazing than that was their being on the wrong side of the biggest comeback-collapse in post-season baseball history. Then, again, maybe I am just seeing Yankees ghosts wherever I look. I'm just on guard against that team all the time.

BTW,. how's your baseball coming along? You are the guy who is playing ball in HS? Or did I get my friends mixed up again?

Sushi,

Refer to tonight as exhibit A, with tomorrow probably being exhibit B, as to why counting the Yankees out is folly. All it takes is one starter to go down. Just one, for any period of time, and we all of a sudden have 2/5 of the rotation going short on regular basis, thus draining the 'pen and putting pressure on the big 3. Now, luckily, JB isn't missing significant time, but there are still 4+ long months ahead, and s*** has been known to happen with this team.

The Yankees will go on a tear at some point. With the talent they have in that lineup, and, while there is no ace, in the rotation, when everyone is clicking together, I can see them running off 16 of 20, easily. If that coincides with 3-week .500 stretch for us, the gap will close quick.
