Here's a question for you. If he was so keen on going to NY' date=' why did it take the Yankees an extra $10 million to get him. They were obviously not that confident that he would go to NY, so they came with a huge offer. His post signing statements mean nothing. No player signs with one team and says he was really considering the arch-rival. They learn that early on.[/quote']

Why does their rationale matter? Do you think they knew the Sox amount offered and decided to go gangbusters anyway? I think they made a huge offer because they were desperate and wanted to assure they had the best offer on the table, kind of like what the Sox did with Matsuzaka. None of this changes my opinion that they would match any offer the Sox proffered, nor does it change my opinion that he selects NY "all things being equal".

I wonder if they could trade Tavarez and maybe someone else if needed, for a guy like Jason Hirsh... The righty is the Rockies #3 guy, this year he's throwing... 3.82 ERA, W-L 2-2, 30 Ks... he's only 25 and is in his 2nd year... doesn't sound to bad...

You can't be serious.

Did anyone not read when I put with someone else... with Tavarez...

and how about the other pitcher in the Jennings trade Taylor Buchholz?

Nick Carfado in today's globe had mentioned that with the way Carmona & Miller have been pitching, the Guardians' Paul Byrd could be a likely trade candidate. Not including the cancelled snow game when it was at 4.2 innings (no hitter going), he has compiled a 2.92 ERA and just 3 walks in 24.2 innings. He is owed $7 million this year, great addition to this staff

The White Sox if they keep slipping could make pitchers such as Mark Buehrle (contract year) expendable

Buerhle is believable because that is a flawed team. I don't see the tribe trading an effective starter when they are in 1st place. Miller throws gas, so I would imagine he'd get slotted into a relief role later in the season as their BP is the weak link.

This maybe wishful thinking, but I would like to see Dontrelle Willis pitch for the Sox! Like I said wishful thinking, but I think it would be a great fit. The Sox need a lefty starter, but the Marlins price is probably too high. But this would be nice

Um' date=' you're talking about Dontrelle f***ing Willis. Unless you're willing to trade Buccholz, Ellsbury, and Bowden (and maybe more), don't bother asking.[/quote']Like I said before wishful thinking and the Marlins asking price would be to high

Too high, we have a lefty when Lester comes back.

Tavarez' trade value is still rather low. He is what, 33? He has been a serviceable reliever and in spots has been a starter. But his track record would say that he isnt a good starter, and one or two good starts doesnt change that. If you wish to go by that logic, Igawa probably had quite a lot of value after baffling the sox for 6 innings.

Tavarez would still be useful out of the bullpen, like he was in STL.

he wont be as good in the AL regardless, but he gives you a guy who can come out of the pen and throw multiple innings. As we are seeing now, that is very valuable. I think Tavarez is pretty important to your team.

I agree.

That's why I said pitching filler will get pitching filler in a trade.

I looked at what kind of pitcher Tavarez would be if he only threw between 1-30 pitches every appearance.

Using CERA as a guideline, I came up with the number 4.36.

Meaning, if Tavarez is limited to a 30 pitch count, he would put up a number somewhere in that area.

Yeah, Tavarez might be good to come out of the bullpen and to TRY to hold a game, but I say that Okajima and Donnelly and when Timlin returns will still be a whole hell of a lot better than having Tavarez coming out of the bullpen
