its f***ing APRIL. what the hell is really decided now even if the Sox start 6-0 vs. the Yankees?

essentially guaranteeing a victory in the season series which breaks a tie and would put us 8.5 games out. Sorry, your pitching staff will keep you in a lot of games this yr and I have said before that you needed a big lead coming out of april as our rotation was coming together. Once it does, I think we smash through the league. But, a near 9 game lead would have been awful tough to overcome. If we can get it to 4.5, things become a lot easier.

He's right. We had their throat under our boot and didn't step on it. There are no leads built in April that can't be overcome, but we could have sent them into further disarray. Didn't happen. They got a QS, some good BP work, and their closer got his s*** together. In other words, they got exactly what they needed to start in the other direction.

I can actually say I have mixed feelings about this win. I truthfully would have traded the Yankees getting swept if it meant Girardi as our manager.

All in all, just one game, and Torre did it again. Igawa pitching well, brought in his bullpen. Can this guy ever have a pitcher go into the eighth?

Hey we found something to agree on! Last night, I watched in pain from my bed (back spasms suck and are a sign of getting old!). Not just because we lost a lead and got blown out. But because that was a must win. I like our chances against DiceK and with our early season ace on the hill, we had to take that game. Why? Because Wake is a yankee killer (except for last season) and we had Karstens on the hill, a guy you beat into oblivion. Last night's game at the time guaranteed a series loss and put a ton of pressure on Wang, who is one start off the DL and still feeling his way through. Instead, we gut out a victory today, show that Mo is Mo and beat the yankee killer all the while sending out our Japanese import in an emergency and shutting you down. This was a big game. I know it is april, and I know the yankees will win a lot of games this yr, but this game right here could have sent shockwaves through the Empire. 8 game losing streak? The longest in 12 years? 5 of those vs the sox? Last 2 in Yankee stadium? Manager on the rocks? Fans ready to kill someone? Offense slumping? Bullpen dying? Rotation s***ing the bed? Everything was working in your favor and to let us up with the ******** on the hill is great for us. You had us dead to rights. Instead, you let us up. No matter what happens tomorrow, we snapped the streak and a sense of normalcy has set in. Mostly because Mariano looked real good. Today's game calmed the masses. And if we win tomorrow, it will propel us right back into this thing.

our rotation is not a guarantee for the entire season, everyone knows hitting catches up to pitching at the season rolls on. in a rotation built around two 40 year old guys, a guy who had a 5 ERA last year and a rookie who's only been decent so far, ANYTHING can happen.

the only thing a good start does for a team is cushion the blow when the inevitable slump happens throughout the season. the division race between the Sox and Yankees swung 6 games in a week, imagine what will happen in the remaining 5 months of the season

Dude, relax. It's friggin' April. We'll be there at the end. Too much talent on the team. Let these guys have their fun now.

If the Yankees win tomorrow, they are 10-13, and on their way up. One game at a time, shore up the pitching, and we will be fine.

By the way, I was at the game yesterday, and even at 4-4, it was the most boring Yankee-Red Sox game I have ever been at with a tie score. There was no life in the stadium. Sucked.

Igawa had to come out with the tying runs on base. He is too prone to the longball. As I have described before, Igawa is like the old cartoons where there is a stick of dynamite and a long fuse. He will blow up if you leave him out there long enough. The trick is to get him before the fuse runs out. Instead of him giving up the game tying 3 run yack and Farns blowing it, he comes out with confidence knowing that he beat the red sox and made them look bad in the process. I do not agree with Joe pinch running AGAIN when the game is close. Giambi not in the game guarantees ARod gets pitched around if the pen doesnt hold it.

I have a very strange feeling that we will be acquiring some pitching at the deadline this yr. Call it a hunch, lol.

That's because you are not an idiot. I cringe every time I see that. It's not like they were behind, they were just padding a lead. Clueless Joe.

the worst part is, he does it even when Giambi is the DH!!!

All got to do is tip our cap. The Sox just werent ready for Igawa. They had spent their preperation to face Karstens, who theyve handled before and quickly got 2 men on. Had he not gotten injured (out for maybe 2 months) it wouldve been some runs early on for the Sox. Instead the Sox out of the gate had to face a completely different pitcher.

Still not impressed by Igawa as my belief is that he'll still be at most a 5th starter, he just had a good game against an offense thats been starting to click. Example... David Pauley facing New York last year. I knew driving home from the casino that Im going to hear "the rotation is starting to settle down, the pen will no longer be tired, the Red Sox will go downhill from here, yadi yadi yada"

As for this series I was thinking we would be 1-1 at this point (loss against Pettitte, win against Karstens), hope is not there much for Tavarez vs Wang. After that I really like our rotation. Beckett has just been a completely turn around thus far, Dice-K will have his bumps but doing so while racking up Ks/innings with ease, Schilling is basically the 3rd starter and he should give respectable numbers, and Wake with his steady dose of knuckleballs will give the pen more rest as he is an innings machine. Lester might soon be in the rotation, a clear upgrade over Tavarez as the 5th starter.

Watch out for the offense once Manny & now Drew wake up from their spring training swings. The bullpen if kept being provided quality innings from a good portion of the staff should remain solid.

I just wonder if I am whistling in the dark to dare to expect a top flight performance from Juilan Taverez tomorrow afternoon? I mean if Igawa, who was pitching piss poor, could step up, is it asking too much for JT to give us a top flight start? I just tomorrow we remember how to hit. What the hell is wrong with Manny? This has been going on for too long with him. What the hell is his problem? And what's happened to Drew?

We let the Yankees up today when they were down and I only hope we don't live to regret it. If we can bow our necks and come out of it with a win tomorrow we could chalk up this game to a bad experience. If we don't we have given the Yankees new life.

I just wonder guys; did any of you start to get a wheezing feeling when Igawa came in and immediately got Big Papi to ground into a harmless double play? I told my wife Linda that I didn't like that and it got be worried from the get-go. Please, let's just beat the Yankees tomorrow.

We can't win them all (well we did the other week during the 3 game series HA!).

If we can atleast get the win tomorrow, we can go back home happy knowing we got 2 out of 3.

It's only April anyway. Plenty of time to knock the Yanks back more.

Plenty of time for us to come back as well. Starts tomorrow as we take 2/3.

This is one of those reverse Yankee/Red Sox series where everything you think should happen happens in reverse. So it only makes sense that somehow tomorrow Tavarez pitches like 5 shutout innings and Wang gets lit up by someone like Pedroia. :dunno: I can't explain it, but it happens every year.

I don't understand how anyone could actually bet on baseball. Too much weird s*** happens.

didnt manny have an average in the .220 range in 05 by june and then finished hitting close to .400 the last 3 months and finished with a .295 average? Worrying about Manny is like worrying the sun wont come up. Eventually, you may be right, but dont hold your breath.

DMats is showing what I expected, believe it or not. Struggle early and strengthen later. I said before, he doesnt have anything you wont see, so the advantage is in the hitters corner early on. But once he learns the league he will dominate. He is the opposite of Nomo and the like because he isnt a novelty, even though the league would love to say otherwise. He is a pitcher with 6 major league pitches. 6 pitches that are not unique but the assortment is. Hence, the hitters arent fooled by the pitch itself. Once DMats learns that pitching backwards doesnt work in the AL, he will do much better. Right now he is 50/50 in offspeed/fastball ratio. If he gets that up to 70%, he will be very well off.

Hey' date=' Gom posted! Haven't seen him in what, a week?[/quote']

I was depressed.

Plus, I was at the shellacking your team gave us on Friday. I then proceeded to drink myself into oblivion after the game.

I always worry when the matchups are HUGE in our favor.

The Sox go out tomorrow with nothing to lose. They aren't supposed to win, and that worries me.
