"The onus is clearly on these starting pitchers, because both teams have impenetrable bullpens able to shorten games to six-inning dashes." -Tom Singer, on RedSox.com regarding the upcoming Yankee/Red Sox series

To call our bullpen impenetrable is the greatest overstatement I've ever heard. Paps is awesome...Timlin doesn't overly suck...that's pretty much all we've got. They've been playing beyond their capabilities, IMO...what team is Tom Singer looking at?

Um' date=' our bullpen has been amazing thus far this season, so yeah.[/quote']

Impenetrable? Common. Even a broken clock is right twice a day...it's only a matter of time until these guys start giving games away.

Your rotation and our bullpen have been impenetrable.

Your BP has been about as impenetrable as Paris Hilton...

did i miss something or did the yankee pen give up 4 yesterday and blow leads on friday and sunday as well??

I believe we still lead the league in pen ERA (not sure if ESPN's site is updated btw) and you guys are second in rotation ERA to jOakland.

Most importantly' date=' the Yankees pen has thrown by far the most innings of any team's pen, according to ESPN last night. that's what we want...burn 'em out early.[/quote']

this is the stat that hurts the most. Our pen can easily handle the 3IP per game that our rotation will throw their way. But when Torre regularly pulls his starter prior to when they should be pulled, he is lighting a fuse and trying to burn it out. I am still dumbfounded as to why Igawa had to come out after 6 on Wed. and Rasner after 4.1 yesterday. Makes no sense to me.

What makes no sense to me is how Francona has used our bullpen wisely so far---that is, for the most part. He has always been a little shaky in that area, but I still hark back to the basic fact that we have to start hitting more consistently to take advantage of our stalwart starting pitching. My club has NOT hit like Red Sox teams are supposed to hit and it would be a great idea for our hitters to start getting hot before the weather does.

Francona's been decent managing the pen but I wonder how much of that is John Farrel's (sp?) influence.

I was hoping before the season Kilo that Farrell would have some autonomy with the pitching staff and if he is the reason for this pleasantly surprising turn of events more power to him and the Red Sox for making it so. They say starting pitching wins titles; I hear that from Joe Morgan, Tim Kurchian, Buster Olney and all those sages on the baseball shows, and if so, then let's start making that work for us like starting tonight.

Wouldn't it be terrific is we actually could win the game tonight without having to call on Jonathan Papelbon? It would be great to just win the game. Give Schilling some batting support and let him pitch like he has the past two games and it ought to get done.

Tito has impressed me too recently. I think he should take some credit on why our BP has been successful thusfar.

i am actually comfortable with everyone in our pen but snyder and piniero' date=' other than that i think we will be solid all year[/quote']

Castigs, how's this for a kick in the pants. Snyder comes in last night to stop the bleeding due to Romero's typical meltdown against the Yankees, retires two batters and does his job in that regard and then sees his teammates get five runs to get a cheap win----and against the Yankees to boot. He must know someone up there seems to really like him right about now.

First time I answered one of my owns posts and it sounds silly to me, but last night we saved Schilling's bacon, and this time the hitting and relief pitching did the job. I guess sometimes things do start to even out and I'd bet Curt would agree this morning. You know if Crisp had somehow caught that ball ( a helluva try) we would have won the game much sooner than we did, but, don't get me wrong, I am not complaining.
