Toronto closer B.J. Ryan was placed on the 15-day DL today with an elbow injury. The move comes a day after Ryan blew his second save in 4 chances this season. Jason Frasor will take over closing duties.

Good news for the Sox as they head into a series with the Jays this week

Glaus and Reed Johnson are down as well. It's a great time for the Sox to put some games with Toronto behind them. Hopefully they sweep that two game series.

Isn't it Reed Johnsaon that has been a Sox killer?

I think you're thinking of Catalanotto, who took Schilling deep eariler in the year.

Johnson hit .300 against the Red Sox in '06, but he didn't really do any serious damage.

The Blue Jays offense will need to be "05 Red Sox" if they wish to contend. The starting staff is really currently Halladay & Co. Burnett has gotten hit hard in his last 2 starts so thats not helping him any. BJ has blown 2 early saves (now heads to the DL) and their bullpen has already been hit with the loss of Justin Speier to the Angels. The past 2 years the Blue Jays have been the thorn in our ass, maybe 2007 will be a better year vs Toronto

On ESPNEWS, Buster Olney said he could be gone for the year. Never like to see anyone get hurt, but this basically takes Toronto out of the East equation (if they were ever really in it.)

I know its been mentioned before but Reed Johnson is also going on the DL. He will have back surgery and not be back until July. Prospect Adam Lind will take his place. Another hit to their offense is that Troy Glaus is also being placed on the DL. He has a bone spur in his left heal and a sore hamstring, we will see a platoon of Jason Smith/John McDonald

that really sucks for Toronto but is really good for the Sox today... facing a team without one of there power threats, closer and another pretty good OF, who has hit us pretty good in the past...

Wow losing Ryan and Glaus is a huge blow to the Jays. The Jays now have to use Frasor at closer and that's not a good thing. Even though he picked up a save tonight I really don't see him being effective for very long. I think he's going to run into trouble and start getting roughed up. As for Glaus the Jays have who John Macdonald to replace him for now. Once again not anywhere near the caliber of the player they lost. Hopefully for the Sox these guys miss more than a few weeks.

Well the Jays are offically done without BJ Ryan they better make sure that they win every game by about 10 runs because they don't have anyone who can close out a game like that guy can. They have already tried Frasor and he hasn't done much. Don't think anyone will. Too bad for the Jays but there season is officially done on May 10th.
