I am a Coco supporter, for sure. But he seems incapable of both trying to tell if a pitch is a close ball or strike and hitting a pitch hard. He seems to do best when he just lets it rip. I think the Sox may have taken a bit of that away in an effort to get him on base.

Don't get me wrong, what I'm writing about is a VERY VERY hard thing to do. I'm always amazed that anyone can do it, and there is probably only about 5% of MAJOR LEAGUERS who can do it (let alone the 99.999% of the world's general population).

Crisp did get on base to start things in the 7th, I think he will have a decent year, which would be good because then we could deal him for a nice return and put Jacoby in CF in 08.

If he prooves he can play and hit in Boston, then we might as well keep him, he's not too expensive, I don't think it be a bad idea to have Jacoby in the minors for a couple more seasons, maybe he can develop a little power.

you forgot about the other option.

Coco struggles, but Ellsbury has a rough adjustment to AAA and the sox are stuck with Coco for 07. He hasnt looked comfortable nor has he even made solid contact of any kind. If he doesnt find it soon, he will be floated for a reliever and maybe Wily Mo will play CF.

The Sox certainly knew what was on the horizon in terms of upcoming free-agent CFs back when they let Damon walk and acquired Crisp. Crisp's time may have been limited anyway. As science teachers like to say "nothing happens in a vacuum." Depending on stuff like Schilling coming off the books and being replaced by a lower priced option, the potential for a Manny trade, etc. we could see the Sox go hard for Hunter, Jones or Suzuki.

Jones is playing CF either in NY or Boston next year, Ichiro in Boston if we miss out on Jones, Maybe Hunter but I think he goes to Texas. I still think the only way Manny gets traded is if they already have Jones signed to replace his bat or someone comes up with a couple top notch prospects, 1 SP, 1 top of the line position player plus another young arm.

I highly doubt Jones goes to either Boston or New York or Ichiro for that matter. The Sox are probably comfortable with Ellsbury unless he does terribly in the minors this year, then maybe we would take a flier on jones, but I don't see the sox being in the market. The yanks outfield is already crowded.

triggered by his foul pop out with a man on 3rd i guess

Bo, I don't know how much that foul pop had to do with our disgust with this guy, but it is part of a pattern that for some reason Crisp simply cannot hit in the clutch. I agree it is early and we can't be too unduly influenced by two games because that would be silly and ridiculous but we have to keep a keen eye on this guy. He is coming off a terrible year that could be partly attributed to that knuckle injury he suffered early last season, but as I reminded someone on another board he was hitting in the 290's after he came back and was getting hits before he went deep into the tank. So I think the injury wasn't the only reason he stunk last year.

If you noticed the Red Sox made him their poster boy for a major advertisement about RSN, but the gloss over that ill-timed move has been completely tarnished, and hopes that CocoPops would make Red Sox fans "forget Johnny Damon" have gone up in flames. Theo has two choices if this continues. One is to hold the fort at all costs and ram this guy down our throats in an attempt to justify letting JD walk and trading for Crisp, or admit a mistake and throw in the towel, hoping that Jacoby Ellsbury doesn't stumble down at Pawtucket and plays well enough to be brought up to play CF and put this sad post Damon era to bed once and for all.

BoNat, sorry but I couldn't disagree more. What good would it be to keep Jacoby down on the farm if he has proven he is ready to be promoted over a guy not doing the job? If he stumbles, yes, he would be kept down there in 2007 and 2008, but this is a guy who has the talent to play Big League ball and to me the sooner we put this sad post Johnny Damon era out of the way the better. The FO gambled that Crisp would make us all forget Damon's talents, but it appears that CocoPops simply is pressing and looking totally unformfortable at the plate and gives me the feeling that he would be happier somewhere else. Maybe he will start putting it together but if not the Fenway Faithful is going to give it to him good which will pretty much destroy whatever confidence he has left.

Actually, I don't think that Theo has to admit a mistake. While no one is happy about losing Damon, signing Crisp was a logical thing to do; he was successful in Cleveland. I think that if Coco doesn't do as well as we would like him to this year, then some teams will be inquiring about him at the trading deadline. I wouldn't mind watching Wily Mo replace him in CF for the rest of the year while we trade Crisp for some relief help or some other upgrade. Then, this coming offseason the Sox go hard after Ichiro, Hunter, or Jones (preferably Ichiro) for CF next year.

Sounds great to me. I know Wily Mo was a dissaster in RF last season but JD seems more suitable for CF than Wily Mo. Eh, what do I know? I think putting Pena or even Hinske's bat in the lineup makes it more formidable than have Coco's toothpick out there.

Letting Johnny Damon go was a not mistake. It freed up a lot of payroll, some of which went towards Dice-K. Damon is getting old and if he were here, we probably would have still missed the playoffs last year. Damon is gone, get over it!

You know, Coco is the only player not to have a hit this season yet... I know it's on the 3rd game, Im just pointing it out...

Eh, I still think its a bit early, I say wait another couple weeks to give him a chance. Although i will become impatient and could change pretty quickly if he doesn't do something soon.

I will go on record right now. There is only one centerfielder I want to see out there for us next year and for a dozen years after that, and that is Jacoby Ellsbury. I really think he can become another Grady Sizemore without the great power that the Cleveland CF has. He looks like he is going to be a very good hitter with gap power, great speed, a top notch defensive outfielder, a player capable of stealing 40 bases a year and an excellent leadoff man. Later for Hunter, Jones and those guys. They are too expensive and are on the downside of their careers. Of course, here's a novel idea. Why couldn't we have included a couple of prospects, Andy Marte and maybe Trot Nixon last winter and made a big bid for Grady. Think of what we'd look like with him in our outfield instead of the pathetic Crisp.

JACOBY ELLSBURY OR BUST!!!!!!!! ksushi, we must not trade this kid away. He is going to be some player. I can see him and Dustin being a great one-two punch at the top of the lineup for us for years to come.

I don't know what to think of Coco anymore. I agree that they should let him swing away, he seems to do best when he is just trying to rake the ball than work the count and draw out a walk. He just doesn't look comfortable.

I can't wait to see Ellsbury play for the sox, but I don't want to rush him. I'll leave the sox to figure that out, as they know best. I really hope Crisp wakes up because I think he can be a great potential. But if not, I wouldn't mind a trade. But they need to give him freedom and figure out whats going wrong. Let him do what he does how he does it.
