I hope the Yanks way overbid on Rocket and win. It would be like RJ all over again! woohoo!

no kidding huh?

Roger is still effective, but his IP/start has fallen to a spot under 6. In the ALE, it may not be much better than 5IP/start. Depending on what Igawa and Hughes show, I may be rooting for Raja to stay in Houston.

he doesnt need to fleece the fans. He needs to fleece the FO. And trust me on this one' date=' a phone call by the Hendricks to Steinny saying the sox are the highest bidder will fix that. If you honestly think George will be outbid for Clemens when the sox are the other bidder is naive to say the least. The only bidding the sox win over the yankees are bids the yankees dont intend to win (Manny, they wanted Moose) or those that are silent (Matsuzaka).[/quote']I disagree. I think there is more money in fleecing both the Red Sox FO and the sucker Red Sox fans than the Yankee FO. You are kidding yourself if you think the Red Sox will not make a competitive bid for him. If the bids are equal or close, the opportunity to fleece the Red Sox fans will make his decision for him. Please stop making the mistake that we think he is coming to Boston for some grand sentimental farewell tour. He'll come here for the $. Don't forget that last year all three teams gave him comparable bids. He picked Houston for his personal comfort and his post-career contract with Houston. This year I expect the Sox and the Yanks to submit comparable bids, but I don't think Houston will bite this year.

This is the same guy that dotted his kid for taking him yard.

He never "dotted his kid"...his boy took him yard and then Clemens gave him something high and tight. Clemens knew his kid could get out of the way of it or he wouldn't have thrown it. In my opinion, the two were messing around...father and son joking. Would your father throw up and in on you joking around? Maybe not. But your dad isn't Roger Clemens. And you're not Koby. His son probably took him deep, gave a little glance and smile out toward the mound in jest and took his time rounding the bases. Clemens then put him on his butt. No big deal. It has nothing to do with compassion or sentimentality.

if anything, I saw that incident as a father teaching a son a valuable lesson about baseball etiquette. better Roger backs him up a bit than a guy who throws 97 plunking him

If either of the 3 teams are in the mix of things I doubt there are many pitchers who would block Roger...

I posted most of this elsewhere but it really belongs here. If Roger plays I say the likely place would be New York, followed by Houston and I think Boston is unlikely, because of his ego and the legacy he wants to leave behind.

If he goes to Boston and they don't make the playoffs, it was a waste to come back. Even worse, if they make the playoffs and he falters, well it's the same old Roger in Boston when it comes to big games...a blister here, an implosion there and the "legend" just can't get it done in Boston. While it makes for a nice story, that story is only nice if he excels.

Going to the NYY is a much easier way to give himself a chance at another WS title AND not risk his bloated ego, his self-importance, etc. He's already won the WS with them...no pressure there. Plus he knows that they'll do what it takes, or at least try, to improve the team somewhat regardless of cost.

- Going to Boston is risky to a guy with his need for continuos adulation.

- Staying in Houston is less risky because Houston could simply suck this year, thus no pressure on Rog. But does he want to ride into the sunset on a team with no real chance?

- Going to the NYY, IMO, gives him the best opportunity to (1) win (2) be adored and (3) not risk his legacy.

I say he winds up in pinstripes if he plays at all. Just my hunch
