He should have admitted it and shown remorse when it originally happened. He might be, as he should be, in the Hall of Fame today.

Boston's Bob Ryan today on "Around the Horn" blistered Pete Rose all to hell and even made the assertion that there is proof that when the Reds faced two certain pitchers or when the Reds threw two of their duds that he bet against his team. Ryan went out on a limb but I don't think he would have done that if he has some inside information.

If that's the case, Rose's ban from baseball and the HOF should irrevocable. I think we should all stay tuned on this.

in my opinion he should be in the hall , his gambling has nothing to do with what he did on the field . i mean yeah the stuff he did off the field is pretty awfull but that shouldn't stop him from being in it , especially him having a record that may never be broken . if i look at someone thats in the hall , its not gonna be for what he did off the field , its gonna be for what he did on the field

Considering he gambled while managing the Reds, I would believe that is "on the field."

MLB Rule 21

(d) BETTING ON BALL GAMES. Any player, umpire, or club official or employee, who shall bet any sum whatsoever upon any baseball game in connection with which the bettor has no duty to perform shall be declared ineligible for one year. Any player, umpire, or club or league official or employee, who shall bet any sum whatsoever upon any baseball game in connection with which the bettor has a duty to perform shall be declared permanently ineligible.

Rose knew the risks, he took them, he got caught, and he got what he deserved.

gambling is an addiction. You get addicted to coke or alcohol and they send you to rehab. You get addicted to gambling and you get banned forever without any assistance whatsoever.

Being a coke addict does not undermine the integrity of the game. Betting on your baseball team while sitting in the dugout, does.

Rose didn't have to place a wager on the Reds, he could have placed it on the Texas Longhorns.

If Rose is as hooked on gambling as you say he is, would you really put it by him to throw a game to win a bet?

I agree 100 percent with Crespo. What he did was unaceptable, and he got his fair share in the end. It's Pete Rose's own fault he is not in the hall of fame; it's not baseballs fault what so ever.

who gives a flying f***. The guy had an addiction. He cannot manage anymore. Dont forget what he did on the field. He was one of the best hitters of all time. He should be in the hall.

I give a flying f*** Jackson. When he managed he was "on the field", in uniform representing his team and baseball. To me anyway, the two roles of player and manager are all part of one game. Look, I was once a big booster of Pete Rose; I used to tell the players on the teams I coached to look to him as an inspiration. There is nothing personal here. I violated the rules of baseball, but I still give a little wiggle room. If, however, there ever becomes proof positive that be bet AGAINST his own team, my position holds that he should never see the inside of the HOF except as a tourist.

One other thing bothered me no end about the guy. When he finally came clean and admitted his guilt he showed absolutely no remorse for what he had done to himself and baseball. He was arrogant as hell. He didn't win any fans that day either.

So induct him as a player...leave him out as a manager. What did he do that challenged the integrity of the game while he was a player? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

Did it challenge the integrity of the game when the Mick would play games waaaaaaaaaasted?!? I'd say yes. Is he in the Hall? Of course.

The Mick played a lot of games wasted. You remember the story, right? Mick was slated to start an afternoon game but was so drunk that he couldnt stand up, so they left him in the lockerroom. Coach runs and gets him for the late innings and hands him a bat in the bottom of the ninth and he stumbles to the plate and cracks the walkoff.

Imagine what he could have been if he didnt tear up his knee on a storm drain and never touched a drop of alcohol.

He could have been as good as J.D. Drew. Haaaaaaaaaahaha.

Remember when they were calling Drew the next Mick?

I think he would have been in already if he hasn't constantly revealed himself as a liar and low-life scumbag. The man doesn't have a sincere bone in his body.

If Tim Raines wants to snort coke after a game, that's his business. If Pete Rose wants to throw a game in order to line his pockets, that's the business of Major League Baseball.

Luckily for them, they didn't have to. Maybe if they had lived in the 2000's, you wouldn't have seen Ty Cobb drop kick a guy in a wheelchair.

Show me a guy who has been banned from baseball for being a drug addict. I'll show you twenty who have been banned for being associating with gamblers.

This rule wasn't invented yesterday; it's been around almost as long as the game itself. Rose knew that he could be banned from baseball if he placed a bet from baseball. He did it anyway, and he's getting what he deserved.

Though, if MLB wanted to induct him into the Hall of Fame, and on his plaque it said, "Permanently ineligible for gambling on baseball," that would be fine with me.
