I really dont think he will ever be able to hit that pitch . Plus I am tierd of hearing he has potential . If he really had it the would have put him in right and not gone to jd drew . if your in majors you need to be able to catch

One way or another Adam this Wily Mo controversy will come to a head. Coco Crisp had another Ofer today and is looking absolutely terrible this Spring, and while you cannot judge how a guy will play just by his play down in Florida, the fact is he didn't look too good when he came back last year. His knuckle might still be bothering him, though that would seen far fetched with all the time he has had to rehab it, or it could be that he is pressing knowing Jacoby Ellsbury is breathing down his neck and should have never been sent back down to the minor league camp the way he was playing. If Crisp does not come around Pena will get a shot at CF and then all of us can see for ourself if the guy has made the progress needed to be a decent Major League or is just another example of potential gone to waste.

So you think the same as Tito then, the best & most reliable reliever out of that bunch is Tavarez? Nope sorry thats the Yankee fan in you speaking, not the logical one from within

per rotoworld

Julian Tavarez was ineffective again on Wednesday, giving up two runs in two innings against the Pirates.

One of the runs scored on his third hit batter of the spring. He's also up to six walks in 9 2/3 innings. Tavarez has done nothing this month to help his case against Joel Pineiro and Brendan Donnelly, both of whom threw scoreless innings today. Manager Terry Francona may favor him in the closer's role, but there's little reason to think such an arrangement would benefit the Red Sox.

an OF of Manny' date=' Pena and DL Drew would be f***ing hilarious. Imagine Drew and WMP colliding on a flyball in the RCF gap. Drew would be on the DL with "death".[/quote']

Pena was a good CF last year defensivily. He has a good throwing arm, and is fairly fast for a big guy. J.D.'s injuries have occured from being HBP (freak accidents) I dont' think it will be an issue.

Hey Jackson, I so happy you are concerned for the welfare of our team, but I will tell something that is even more hilarious from your end of it. Last August when your team buried us five straight, remember? Coco Crisp went 1 for 19, and left close to a dozen men stranded on the bags. It was hilarious to you but not to us. I'm no Pena fan, most everyone knows that, but if Crisp is going to suck as he did last year and as he's doing in ST I would certainly take my chances with him in CF until Ellsbury is ready. At least Wily Mo can hit a homer run and drive in a couple of runs every once in awhile.

What do you think it would take to get Cordero? They need him or anyone but the guys we have desperetely.

Just my opinion Teddy, but to get Cordero, it would take either Pena or Crisp, Delcarmen or Hansen, Bowden or Bard, and maybe someone else thrown in. A straight Pena for Cordero trade just won't cut it.

willy mo's more valuable and is the better offensive player.

Defensively, WMP plays very well in CF, maybe not as fast as Crisp but can play the position better than RF.

Why Crisp in place of WMP?

Yeah, really, why? Coco had a killer ST in 2006. If he were hitting like that now, no one would want to move him. I'd be shocked if they traded him.

When Theo calls me w/ his plan, I'll let you all know...... ;)

i can see crisp getting traded before wily mo, we have many contact hitters coming up in the minors, and only 1 power hitter [Lars] - so there is less risk trading crisp IMO.

i also realized if we have crisp for 3 more years, Manny for 2 more years, Drew for 5 more years - when do the sox plan on having WMP/ellsbury play? have WMP start in 2 years, and ellsbury in 3? seems like we are holding on to our prospects for too long to me if thats the case

If the scenario you outlined in your last paragraph would happen to be true, then we could all say that Epstein is just plain stupid and idiotic. Since I don't think that's the case (yet) I have to believe that Ellsbury takes over CF in 2008 or earlier if he plays well at Pawtucket this season. I think they are holding Pena for Manny's spot unless the Red Sox prematurely work something out with Ramirez to pick up his two year option before the end of 2008, which then would mean Pena is gone. There is no way the Red Sox would dare waste Ellsbury like that especially when it appears Crisp seems to be going in reverse with his lousy spring. One correction, we have TWO power hitters in the low minors. You forgot about Jason Place, our No. 1 draft choice last June. He projects as a helluva good young prospect-----hopefully, he develops into one.:D :D :D :D

I could see them getting rid of Crisp before Pena, if not just for the fact that Ellsbury is basically the same type of player who's younger and cheaper.

I am so tierd of hearing willy mo this willy mo that .. if we dump crisp everyone in the league will know we made big mistake not sighning judas damon .. .

If i remember we all were on the crisp bandwagon we all thought he was better than damon .. now after 1 season were about to show him the door .

Now to willy mo pop up . He needs to play or not ya hes big and strong but if he never learns to lay off down and away stuff he will neve make it

Not even Coco's mom ever thought that...

ok not as good but could be better .. but if we trade him it will look bad on us .. give up on the guy the let jd walk for

No, it won't look bad. It will look like what it is, a team addressing their needs as those needs change. The last thing in the world that should happen is for a team to turn down an opportunity to improve itself because of some psuedo-pride.

well i actually count on drew on being injured for about for about 100 games this year, so i think we'll see a lot of wily mo.

drew will first dislocate his finger, then have a sore back, then maybe a concussion, followed by being hit by a train and sending him off the rest of the season

The Damon fiasco was bad no matter what Crisp does or if he is traded. He walked to our rivals filling a key hole for them and improving them. Also, in light of what the FO was willing to pay an injury-prone Drew, Damon's contract looks quite reasonable. Keeping Crisp will not make the Damon situation look better or worse.

700 do you think the fo looked at crisp way before damons contrct came up ..so you think it was a done deal long before the end of season

Adam, remember Pride cometh before the fall. If the Crisp trade turns out to be a mistake then we have to admit it and move on. If Epstein tries to justify the trade by holding back Ellsbury and forcing Crisp down our throats he will have the house fall on him. If Coco does well and recovers he will be good trade bait when JE is ready; if he doesn't he will be a average trade bait for something.

No Animal, that is not going to happen. J.D. is going to have his best years in Boston. You have been listening to those damn Cardinal, Brave and Dodger fans bitter that they saw the guy move on. Too many people are underestimating what this guy is going to do for us.

I do. Theo said that they had been looking at him for some time and they were glad to get him before other teams started to notice him, or words to that effect. I thought it was a bit ridiculous that they thought they found this young budding star scooped him up before other teams noticed him. He'd been in the majors for a couple or so years and was playing in plain sight so to speak. Maybe the other teams came to a consensus that he was not going to be that good. Yeah, I think they planned out the replacement of Damon before Damon walked. IMO their strategy was ill-conceived and it back-fired on many levels.

I was watching the telecast tonight' date=' and apparently Tito said it jokingly. I think its going to be Pinero, he is pitching better with 4 scoreless innings and hitting 91-92 mph consitantly.[/quote']

Please god lets hope so. All I have to say is thank god the season DOESN'T start tomorrow - Tavarez may be nuts but I don't feel he's very reliable.

Pinero only gets paid when he finishes games (or at least gets a lot more when he does) so I trust the financial-motivation factor and take him as my #1.

Posted
Superfan, Piniero gave up a leadoff hit, then retired three in a row for a save. True, it was against AAA players but everyone with a bat in his hand is dangerous from where I sit looking at our bullpen. It has to be at least a little confidence builder. However, our closer situation is far from settled but Theo must give Tito the word that it cannot be Taverez or Hansen.

Another report saying Tavarez is set to be the opening day closer, at least for the first 6 days of the season before Timlin comes back. It says Joel Pineiro only has a shot if he's lights out for the rest of ST. Funny how Michael Silverman complains about Pineiro's 13 hits in 9 innings but doesnt account the streak of 7.1 scoreless innings. Also funny how he doesnt account that in 12.2 innings, Tavarez has walked 7 and hit 3 batters. Oh yea Tito he just knows how to throw strikes.

Unless Pineiro pitches lights-out during the remainder of spring training, Tavarez likely will start the year as closer. The 33-year-old makes sense because of his durable arm and extensive experience in pressure situations during his 14-year major league career.

Earth to Silverman, when was Tavarez pitching good relief in close games for the Sox?
