IMO, we trade we back Crisp and a few prospects for a Chad Cordero type, then Play Willy Mo in center until Ellsbury is ready. Then the two can platoon or whatever. Jacoby looks like he is going to be one hell of a player, and he does remind me a lot of Johnny Damon with his slashing type swing. Why did the FO extend Coco, with him waiting in the wings? By the way Dice-K look nasty even if it was against B.C.

Because until last year Crisp was Ellsbury with more power.

Haha, yeah the whole Ellsbury thing is probably an over reaction on my part. However, we could have still had Marte which would be nice for the future.

It's kind of sad if you analyze every spring training at bat, regardless of which team you root for, don't you think?

Are you all heartbroken your team is 0-2 in spring training? Come on.

It's kinda sad that you can't see your team in Tampa. Spring Training is a lot of fun. It's not about w's and L's. It's about the veterans getting in shape and getting their work done. It's about seeing kids that you've read about and watching them try to keep pace with the big boys. Gom if you don't like my observations put me on your ignore list. Too bad that your team seems to be falling apart with injuries already.

I didn't get a chance to see the afternoon game, but I have a few observations about the nightcap. Most of you saw Dice K on the mound, but I'm not sure that you know that he went right out to the pen after his second inning of work and got in a lot more work. This guy just loves to throw. He was out in the pen for some time.

Ellsbury's triple was worth the price of admission. He swung the stick with some authority, and the kid can flat out fly. I don't know how his speed compares to Crisp, but to my eye it looks pretty close. As far as his arm goes, he doesn't have a gun, but it's a lot stronger than Damon's limp noodle and Crisp's pop gun.

Pedroia seems to be getting more comfortable with each game and each AB.

I was surprised to see Lowrie. I didn't think he got an invite this year. I saw him last year, and I can tell you that this kid is not shy about swinging the lumber. I don't know his stats, but I'd be surprised if he draws a lot of walks.

I heard on the radio that some fan was giving it to Drew at this afternoon's game. He yelled that he's no Trot Nixon and shouldn't be wearing his number. Red Sox fans are a tough lot.

Yeah he is no Trot Nixon, he is going to be a huge upgrade. As for his number I personally don't think he should be weaing it either, not that it really matters.

Ellsbury needs a good 2 months in AAA before he is ready. Think about it, instead of Coco, you could have Marte, Ellsbury and Shoppach on the MLB roster by June. That means dealing for Mirabelli would have been moot so you keep Meredith and have him closing. Hindsight.

Yeah, but at the time no one can blame the FO for those moves.

Yeah' date=' but at the time no one can blame the FO for those moves.[/quote']The move where they deserve blame is letting Damon walk to the Yankees. They could have had Marte, Shoppach, Meredith, etc. and Ellsbury ready to take CF full time by the time Damon's contract ran out in 2009. They might have had to move Damon to LF in his last season or trade him to a contender. Damon is worth more than Drew, and by going to the Yankees he makes them so much better. Good CF leadoff hitters are very hard to find.

that set in motion a bunch of moves. Overall, if you retain Damon and undo the dumbass trades of yrs past (which to be honest, there havent been any good trades recently) then you could have a lineup that looks like.

C Vtek- Shoppach and Kottaras in the wings

1B Youk

2B Freddy Sanchez

3B Andy Marte

SS Hanley Ramirez

LF Manny

CF Damon

RF Nixon/Drew/Pena

DH Papi

take a look at that infield. All guys under 30, Hanley and Sanchez would be unreal and then to have Manny and Papi. WOW.

The rotation would look like

1. Schilling

2. Matsuzaka

3. Papelbon

4. A. Sanchez

5. Wakefield

Setup- Cla Meredith

Closer- Mike Gonzalez

That would be one hell of a young team with great talent.

Does anyone know who's pitching today?

I think it's Jonathan Papelbon going for the Sox this afternoon against the Phillies if I am correct.

I thought Wakefield was starting?

anyway any chance Jacoby Ellsbury comes out to be a Grady Sizemore type player ?

Posted

Papelbon Ks the side in his first inning :)

All on fastballs already peaking at 94

EDIT: :papelbon: just finished his 2nd inning of work, 1-2-3 with a K. Oh thanks to NESN for playing the entire Wakefield post outing conference during it.

Anyways 6 men up, 6 men down, 4 Ks

Probably some chance, although he doesn't yet seem to have the power that Sizemore does.

Hey, let's give Pinearo the closing job now, huh?

You had faith in Piniero? :D

 i was hoping he might the surprise bargain of the year and that he might turn ouit to be the next Joe Nathan but thats not happening hahahah

I think you can tell he doesn't have a chance of being the next Joe Nathan on stuff alone. Hence the excitement about a guy like Craig Hansen, who DOES have the stuff but hasn't put it together yet.

Hansen is one person who i hope the sox never trade - he was way too rushed last year hopefully they are patient so he can reach is true potential
