Can't find anything official, The guy that does sportcenter during commercials reported it. Said he felt pain in his elbow and didn't want to go threw another injury season.

Does this F up our sandwhich pick?

Thanks for helping bring one home, Keith. I hope the Whoppers are thick, juicy, plentiful, and served by Johnny.

While since mid-20005 I've was a Foulke detractor in terms of the likelihood of him ever pitching effectively again I do feel for the guy.

Without ever possessing the overpowering stuff closers are generally made of, the guy was a very effective closer for 4-5 years, and that in itself was impressive.

His comments bashing Boston fans not withstanding (in '05 or '06), I'm sorry to see the guys career end like this at only 34.

he doenst have to worry about tommorows lunch money

dont feel too bad for him

i just dont think he wants to deal with constant ice packs, rehabs in the minors and 2nd rate arm strength

he knows his body better than us

Not really that surprised that Foulke decided to hang up his cleats. He has had a number of injury's lately and his body just can't take any more. You will be missed Foulke we will never forget what you did for the Red Sox.

He was a vital part of the '04 team and for that alone, he deserves nothing but our respect. Anything else that happened is very secondary

Whatever he had left he left on the field in'04. He was never the same afterward. Thanks Keith. You were outstanding that year and especially in the post-season. You were the glue of that post-season staff.

good by foulkie thanks for 04 .. you were the mvp .. youll never have to pay for anything in boston .. 10 yrs from now you will still be part of the greatest red sox team ever

My favorite Keith Foulke moment:

Game 6 of the ALCS, when he blows that scorching 88 MPH heater past Tony Clark.

In old Sox seasons, Clark puts it in the short porch and the Yankees go to the WS.

But I most remember him saying to Varitek, "Gotta make it interesting, right?" (or something along those lines)

Keith Foulke also should have been WS MVP, but that's a different story.

Leave him be. Ignore him.

Kilo's got it right on both ends. This guy deserved the WS MVP much more then manny did and putting his heart into helping us win it all ruined his career. Should be one of the most respected sox players ever.

He definitely should be remembered as a leading player in winning the Sox the World Series. I just wonder what he did to his elbow that he suddenly has to retire like that. Soreness doesn't explain it to me.

His knees were shot back in Oakland, which led to back and arm troubles in Boston.

Thanks for your wife Foulke!

But in all seriousness, I hope they have him (lightly) toss the first pitch one game. He deserves to come back to Boston and have nothing but love thrown at him. Thanks for '04 Foulkie!

Well, the title of this thread is good at least...

Speaking of which (non-Keith Foulke related) I didn't see this cited anywhere:

Wouldn't it be nice?

An interesting tidbit from the Globe's Gordon Edes: Here's how speculation gets started -- Daisuke Matsuzaka asked for and received a uniform from Ichiro Suzuki, with whom he became good friends during the World Baseball Classic last season. The two had dinner before Sox camp opened. With Ichiro a prospective free agent after the season, you're going to hear talk about Boston being a possible destination.

Just a stupid rumor, right? I could definitely see Ichiro and Matsuzaka wanting to play together, but I don't really see a spot for Ichiro unless the sox get rid of Manny. I don't know how you would sort through WMP, Coco, Ellsbury, Drew and Ichiro; I suppose one becomes expendable in that case, probably Ellsbury or Crisp.

It's been pretty slow around here and I don't remember many Ichiro to Boston discussions in the past.

As the one of the Founders of the TWF and the original Foulker of his wife, I thank Keith Foulke from the bottom of my heart for everything he gave to the city of Boston. The first time he steps foot in Fenway, whether to toss a first pitch or just as a guest, he should recieve the biggest standing ovation in the history of professional sports.

Thanks for the memories, dude.

Keith Foulke got a lot of Red Sox fans pissed off at him with some of his antics the past two seasons and didn't leave Boston with a great deal of good will, but can't we all at least admit that without the guy we would not have won the 2004 WS? He was great that year, 32 saves and a bullwark in the Playoffs and WS. Frankly, I would like to see the Red Sox invite him out to throw out the first ball in, say, a Red Sox-Yankees game and let the crowd show its appreciation for what the guy did for us three seasons back. Who know how those knee and arm injuries played on his head the past two years? I'd rather remember what the hell he did for our team when it counted. Think of how we'd be feeling now if 2004 hadn't happened the way it did without the guy.
