Holley also said today that a trustworthy source told him that Curt Schilling is "woefully out of shape." He said there are those who worry about his legs and that this could be the reason the Red Sox might be hesitate to give him a contract extension.

Terry Francona held court at Fenway Park today, and Nick Cafardo has a blog entry on the manager's thoughts as we get ready for Spring Training 2007.

The Big Show guys are also saying that Jonathan Papelbon WILL be the Red Sox closer at some point this season. They're saying the health issue is just an excuse not to use him in that role. Ordway is insisting that if the Red Sox have issues at closer, Papelbon will be moved to that role.

not sure how reliable a link this is, but its near the bottom of the page. This could be a major factor in not resigning him.

alrighty then' date=' sounds like the source sucks. Wouldnt put it past big schill though. He's always a little doughy.[/quote']

Just don't start calling him Fat Curt, especially if it isn't true.

last yr I was very surprised by how in shape he was. You could tell he needed to prove something. Now he has less to prove. Who knows. Even if he balloons to Wellsian size, he'll still be pretty good.

Let the man eat a few donuts...He will still be better than more then half of the other pitchers even if he is "woefully out of shape"

bad source, but i can see it being true. I think that there is a little pressure on the Sox just to sign Schilling because of what he has done for this team and how he put it all out on the field. Either way, i expect the Sox to sign him for '08 and go into the season without any drama

Ordway and the big show is about as unreliable as it gets... ever.

Considering their source was an interview (on the big show) with Tito...i would say the source is credible. As much as those guys yell and such, Ordway is usually pretty good...the other tards on there aren't though.

here's a link to the interview:

They were basing things off of an interview with Paps they did in december. he basically said that health wasn't an issue, but rather the sox wanting to get the most innings possible (and that happens at a starter)

if Schill was still planning on retiring after this year, I'd be more inclined to believe that he was really out of shape but the man is playing for a new contract. Not to mention he is one of the most competitive guys out there, I call ******** on this report
