Delcarmen and Hansen have come up in the talks, as the rockies seem to be seeking some pitching talent. Nowhere in there does it say anything about the three B's, but you can assume they will target one of them. Helton, 33, has a full NTC but has said he would consider waiving it to go to Boston. Last season, Helton had one of his worst power displays of his career, but he had an intestinal ailment early on that cost him 15 pounds. He says that he finally has put that weight back on and finally feels like his old self.

He is under contract for another 6 yrs and 90.1mil, but the rockies are willing to eat some of that if it entails bringing in some pitching talent.

The discussions will resume on Monday.

I was thinking about the possibility of Helton's name coming up in talks with Boston. His bat would sure help solidify the line-up even more, his swing would do damage in 81 games at Fenway Park.

Boston- Todd Helton, good chunk of cash considerations to help with his salary

Colorado- Hansen, Delcarmen, Bowden

There in itself while adding a 1st baseman slugger, they deal away young pitching. Lets see what happens...

I would assume you would get more of the 2005 Todd Helton than the 06 version simply because of his sickness. He isnt the power guy he once was and leaving Coors field is certainly going to hurt the power. But the guy can put up a mid .900s OPS, hit over .300 like clockwork and find the gaps with 20+HR potential. He would be getting a substantial time and money commitment here. He's under contract until 39, but in the short term he is worth it. He's also one of the better defensive 1b's in the game.

This could be a preulde if you know what I mean. Youks to 3rd, Lowell for relief help.

If everything stays as is and the sox get Helton, I'd be more inclined to say.

1. Lugo ss

2. Drew rf

3. Ortiz dh

4. Ramirez lf

5. Helton 1b

6. Lowell 3b\

7. Varitek c

8. Crisp cf

9. Pedroia 2b

I don't know about trading Hansen and Delcarmen. One of them would probably be ok, plus one of the Bs and some other pitcher, if we can convince them. I think getting rid of both Hansen and Delcarmen handicaps us in a bigger need than the one for Helton, closer. One of those guys will likely be the guy by midseason. If I had to choose, I would keep Manny D.

If they want three prospects back they better be eating a ton of cash. If there not swallowing atleast 30M of the 90M then they get 1 or two at the most. Unless they took Lowell off our hands, but I doubt they would.

right now 6yrs and 90 mil is essentially a bit more than JD Drew money. And this guy is a lot better than Drew. His deal was initially way over market value. Now it is about right. You wont get any discount here. If you want him, they'll eat some of it, but you'll have to give them at least 2 probably 3 solid prospects.

ya thats the lineup i would want if this thing happened.

Id throw in 1 of Delcarmen/Hansen, 1 of Bowden/Bucholz and Youk to make this deal

Olney thinks that Clement would be part of any deal to get Helton

he also says that the Sox and Rockies having been talking about a deal since last fall

Just the fact of the possibility that the Sox could be talking about Helton just means that the Sox are fully aware of the weakness at first base.

lowell, clement, hansen for helton, otherwise i really wouldnt give up too much. Hes getting older, expensive. That deal clears 18mil after the season and they add hansen.

True, the on ly thing is I dont wanna give up to much of out good farm system for Todd Helton, I mean Heltons great, but if we did want him we should have got him for the Rockies gave away Shealy, maybe we could have got him at a cheaper price possibly...

In three years he won't be able to find a starting job on any winning team.

Unless we have a deal in place to acquire a closer afterwards I would say the Sox have no intentions of trading both Hansen and Delcarmen.

I wouldn't be surprised if they dealt Ellsbury, Hansen and Bucholz in this one.

I really don't wnat to give up too much on this deal. I'd be fine with Delcarmen' date=' Clement, and one of the B's. (Only reason I'm adding Clement is because of Olney)[/quote']Getting him for that package would be like getting him for free. It would be better than getting him for free if they would actually take Clement. I think we will have to offer more. Hansen would have to be a part of the package.

I can't see Helton moving without bona fide prospects going the other way, and probably with Youkilis. If you guys can get him, he would be awesome for your lineup.

I would be surprised if that's what they dealt. I don't think they're gonig to trade their two top pitching prospects (insofar as Hansen is a prospect) and their top position prospect for Helton.

That said I'd be willing to give up a fair amount to get Helton on this team (his 1.023 career OPS would be a nice addition to Manny and Papi). I would prefer that they move Lowell to Youkilis and I think that Youkilis would be an excellent 5th IF who can play both sides of the diamond and then use him next year as your 3rd baseman.

I would trade Bard, Delcarmen and Lowell, ask for less money but save some real talent.

If they do pull off this deal I would be pretty happy regardless of who got traded, but Ellsbury should not be dealt, hands down.

ESPN is rumoring that Helton for Lowell can get the job done. The Rockies want to rid themselves of the contract and taking one yr of Lowell at 9 mil vs 6yrs of 90 mil for Helton is their bit.

The best part about trading away young pitching to the Rockies is that you know it will not come back to haunt you short term.
By the time these guys become decent major leaguers they'll have been through a couple of more teams. Now is when I would want to face them. We'd chew em up and spit em out.

Eh, I think we have a good lineup is. I personally wouldn't mind seeing Ellsbury and Bucholz in the deal, Hansen makes me a little uncomfortable with it because I do think he is going to be very very good.

Pretty much any deal without Hansen makes me a happy person.
