Good for him...that's a great buy for the Astros in my opinion. A guy that can play solid defense at 3 infield positions and bat close to .300 while doing all the little offensive things correctly for 3.5 million tops sounds good to me.

Best of luck to him, I hope the NL treats him well again.

Good pick up for Houston, great clubhouse guy and still has some decent skills. Probably be a manager when his playing career is over, good luck Mark!

Atta boy Mark ;) turn down the Yankees offer, it wouldve been bad picturing you in pinstripes

A class act all the way, thanks for the memories. The Patriots Day walkoff was your day in the sun here.

If he had 10 more homeruns for the year, he'd have been a keeper. Good luck guy and yes, thanks for the memories. Patriots Day walkoff audio here

Well, yes. But for one obvious reason. It was Patriots Day.

Patriots Day is the single greatest regular season baseball day of the year for a Red Sox fan. Even better than opening day if you ask me. I always take the day off from work. Start drinking around 10am and watch/listen to the pregame. Game on at 11. It's a great day of baseball devotion for me (and seemingly everyone back in Boston) and to have it end on a walk off by Loretta last year was just perfectly awesome.

This year the game starts at 10. Oh god, I do believe I will set the alarm for 6am and be drunk by 9 in the morning. I cannot wait. I love Patriots Day!

Sad to see Mark go he was a solid second basemen I guess with Pedroia he just didn't fit in and the Sox didn't want him back. He's a good fit for Houston and they got a great pickup.

Loretta wouldve of course been a much better option to be the super utility infielder than Cora. Perhaps Theo looked back on Tito's past. Tito would probably end up starting Loretta more and have Pedroia waste away sitting on the bench

That might have been a good idea if Pedroia is hitting .190 at the end of May. I think Tito probably influenced the decision to keep Cora, because he has been very public in his effusive praise for Cora.

No one has a comment on these almost identical stats?

I'm glad they gave the job to Pedroia and saved some money instead of re-signing Loretta.

I agree. Had we not had the option of bringing up someone from the minors, I would have been all over signing loretta. Still a great player.

What's to comment on? Both stats lines are good for a 2B. You were the one saying he'd fall on his face, so if anyone should comment, it should be you. And, I'll take his D at 2B over Loretta.

That's quite a bit different than predicting him falling on his face. I said he had average skills and he does, but he is doing an above average job right now. I also thought that the ceiling predicted for him was not that high. He was predicted to be a Loretta-type. I find it amusing that the stats bear that out across the stat line.

Wasn't A700 the one saying that Loretta sucked in the game threads even though he was hitting 300?

No. That's Jsinger, who is a700hitter's polar opposite.

An updated snapshot of Pedroia vs. Loretta. The statistical similarities continue to be uncanny.
