I hate the fact that most people like the sound of Coco being traded... I just don't get it... sure he had a bad year last year but he is a great player, he just need to be healthy, which he wasn't last year because of a freak injury... anyways...

I like the sound of Hinske and a mid prospect for Gonzalez, really wouldn't mind that... The Sox want to get rid of Hinske anyway, so it's like hitting 2 birds with 1 stone, and it would fill a BIG hole with the closer's spot... I wouldn't very satisfied if this happened... I'm all for that deal...

I'd drive Hinske to the airport and carry his bags for him.

Hinske and a mid level gets your nothing. Hinske is awful.

You are forgetting a key fact in this situation. It is the Pirates. They actually wanted Shawn Chacon from you guys last year for chrissakes. Shawn Chacon defines awful.

Here is something to clear up the whole Gonzalez talk. Sounds like the sox dont have a match so they have been trying to stir up 3 team talk with no luck at this point. The Braves are essentially out of the running, but the Pirates would love to add that lefty power. The Pirates LOVE Cabrera and that was essentially the topic of the talks that led to the Chacon for Whiffin Wilson trade. Their interest in Melky is said to be intense. The new rumor is that the pirates are looking at Melky plus a pitching prospect, potentially a mid level reliever like TJ Beam (this part is from another article). Nothing is stirring right now, but this guy thinks a deal gets done by the new yr. The winner though is unknown.

If they want a power bat, why do they want Melky Cabrera?

I have no idea. Just sounds like the Pirates really want him plus a midlevel pitching prospect, potentially a reliever (Beam?). I have a feeling Cabrera's opening destination in ST if dealt would not be the pirates.

I know the braves love Melky, so maybe he gets moved to atlanta. I dont get it, but if the pirates get a reliever from NY who could fill in for Capps role at MR when he goes to CL and then get a chip that could be used for a power bat then why not. It is feasible because Melky has a ton of value right now, especially since he is following up a pretty good rookie yr with a .340 average in winter ball.

Could you possibly say any more inaccurrate things? In those 3-way deal scenarios with the Braves, MELKY CABRERA GOES TO THE BRAVES. The Pirates want the young cost controlled left-handed power from Adam LaRoche. That's Melky love alright ...

The pirates wanted him last season when the yankees talked about Wilson. They wanted him then, they will want him now. BUT, I think this season, the added caveat is that they want to get him to move him.

Just admit you were wrong.

But you said the Pirates wanted him now. You're contradicting yourself.

Seriously, think about it. You're the Pirates, you have a chance to add a guy who hit 32 HR's last year, and bat him behind Jason Bay. Do you want him or Cabrera?

I'm sure the Pirates would like Cabrera, but they want LaRoche more.

Agree 100%. But at the same time, the pirates have a hard on for Melky, have for a yr now. Whether it is for trade bait or for themselves, who knows. But they have been asking for him since June.

And the braves want a replacement for Jones when he leaves, and I guess they think Melky would be a good guy to place there.

lol @ Melky being mentioned in the same breath as Andruw Jones.

I hope Scherholtz can do better than that.

sigh. Apparently you have a one track mind kilo. I am not saying Melky is going to be Andruw. But the Braves know that Jones is leaving, so they need a CFer when he leaves. Apparently they like Melky in that role.

Melky can sub in CF' date=' but he's not an everyday CF.[/quote']

I would have said absolutely NO to Melky in CF after the debachles of 05, but last season he was much improved. As far as a full time CFer, I think his window will be short. He is pretty fast and he has a damn good arm, but his body type reminds me of a shorter Tony Gwynn. He will put on some weight and once that happens, it is corner OF or bust for the Melkman.

I don't see how any self respecting GM can have a hard on for Melky Cabrera. He's OK but corner outfielders who can slug in the low-to-mid 400's are a dime a dozen. He's young and cheap, which is a plus, but this guy's completely overrated in my opinion.

I like his plate discipline, but let's face it: Melky Cabrera in the Yankees lineup is going to get some pitches to hit. Melky Cabrera in the Pirates lineup just isn't the same. He scored a ton of runs and knocked in 50 last year, but again, this was in one of the best lineups in baseball.

Cabrera as a replacement for Jones is a joke. He'd be an improvement over Langerhans, but that's not saying much.

we would be absolute fools to trade coco for gonzalez. offer hinske and the mid-level prospect' date=' that's it.[/quote']

it wont happen then. Hinske is scrap heap material and a mid level prospect wont get it done. The Braves are standing firm on what they want for Gonzalez in the 3 team deal, they want Proctor and Melky. Proctor is probably the second best reliever between boston and NY right now, dealing him would be a bad decision. If they are asking for that much, you can assume that Coco alone would not be enough.
