also' date=' I dont grade the yankees the way I would grade other teams. Maybe it is bias, but I think it is well founded. [/quote']

:D I think jackson just admitted he's a Yanks fan!

Anyway, I understand your reasoning. Mike Gonzalez COULD turn out to be a nice signing for you, though. I mean, he could cause as many unsettling feelings as Farnsworth, but I don't think he could be that much worse.

Pretty strong words Jackson. I'm not ready to jump off the bridge. I think this is a classic example of the Yankees selling high on Proctor and Melky. I think last year was Proctor's ceiling. I dont see it getting any better for the 30 year old(when the season starts). You do have a case with Melky however on this team as it currently stands he is a 4th OF and I dont see him being much more FOR THE YANKEES because I see them going after guys like Vernon Wells next year after Abreu walks away.

Vernon Wells was offered a 7 year / $126 million contract from the Jays. I'm sure the Yankees could go higher, but does Vernon Wells just switch to RF for you guys?

Last year Damon said he'd swich to LF for Tori Hunter(these were the rumors when we lost both Sheff and Matsui) so I'm assuming he would do it for Wells also.

ATG, I think Gonzalez has upside, dont get me wrong. And I think the time might be right to deal Proctor and Melky. But if the yankees are getting an injury prone lefty in return, count me out. Proctor gave the yankees 100 innings of relief last yr that nobody else was capable of taking, especially early on. If the yankees move Proctor, then a guy like Shields needs to be coming back.

I think the 100 innings of relief scare the Yankees. Thats quite a huge workload and like I said I dont see Proctor getting much better. Gonzalez is cleary a risk/reward guy. Hes risky because hes had some injury problems but when he is pitching he is nasty.

I also think that getting Gonzalez forces the yankees to get 1000IP out of their rotation. Having Proctor is nice insurance to have if the pen needs to be leaned on for a short stretch.

I was kinda hoping getting guys like Chris Britton, inserting JB Cox into the fold sometime during the season would help take that kind of pressure off of Proctor. Its quite clear the only reason why he threw 100 innings was everyone outside of Rivera was either medicore or flat out sucked.

EDIT: I forgot about Bruney also.

Good team if we can get one more middle reliver

Did you watch him? I know he wasn't given many opportunities, but boy oh boy when he was given the opportunity did he deliver. He had great command and consistently got outs. Exactly what you need out of a middle reliever. Just get through the innings consistently. I think I'm a lot higher on Breslow than most people. I just loved watching him pitch. He really was fantastic when given the chance.

I definitely see him in the pen. But I dont think he is a piece that can withstand a ton of pressure if you know what I mean. 11th or 12 pitcher on a team, absolutely, but key middle reliever, setup man, gulp...closer. No way. Nice piece to have, nowhere near a reliable guy...yet. Give him time and for god sakes dont rush another young reliever. Plus, he walks too many. 19BB in 28 MLB innings is WAY too much if you dont have power stuff to compensate.

the thing is bosox' date=' unlike the red sox, everytime the sox make a pre-emptive strike and nab a player the yankees have tabbed for obtaining, there is a reactive move. That seems to lessen the blow significantly. The other way around cannot always be said.[/quote']I think D-Mat was a pretty good reactive move to the big Humberto acquisition. It lessened the impact for me quite significantly.;)

LOL A700:thumbsup:

Look for us to get another MR pitcher from the Marlins for Murphy. There looking for a CF and its been said the eye is on Murphy. Which is good for us, if we get a decent arm for him to eat some innings out of the pen that be great. Besides Murphy is gonna be a decent player, but theres a log jam at CF and he will probably not get a chance on the SOX with Ellsbury coming up so fast.

Breslow was very good when given the opportunity alst eyar, he came in soem tough spots and did his job. If Okajima is the set up man (cross finegrs for closer) we all hope he could be, breslow could take voer as the lefty specialist.

Matsuzaka was the big coup early on. Then the yankees got Pettitte. Matsuzaka doesnt hurt as much anymore. See.

Well, if you look at the stats, he wasnt all that wonderful in a very short stint. Promising, yes, but very good, NO. Like I said, I would like to have him on my team, no doubt. But he isnt a guy I'd put pressure on. He'd be the 11th or 12th pitcher out of the pen.

Well he's sitll decently young and could devlop into a good lefty specialist, but I agree for now he should be the clean-up guy

Oh, that's right you got back the guy with the bad elbow that was ready to fall apart. I guess 3 years in Houston has cured his elbow. Maybe the Red Sox will counter Pettitte with Clemens.;)
