1 yr 15 mil is a great contract. The money isnt the issue when you talk about the yankees. It is the length. Pavano for 4 yrs, Giambi for 7, etc. Those are insane deals. Pettitte is a one yr deal likely. AND, he is an effective LHP with yankee history. It is a great idea.

Cash ate a lot of crow on that one. It was a horrible idea to let him go.

Alot of Yankee fans that I know, and I know a bunch, gave him kudos for not re-signing him based on his physical condition. It seems that those fans will have to eatr some crow now.

The Yankees didnt let Pettitte go as much as they put him on the back-burner. He was eventually offered 4-52 from the yankees (and the sox outbid everyone). But he was upset that he wasnt a priority and bolted. They floated the whole elbow injury thing to save face. It was a farce, it was stupid and any fan of Andy's would know that he was a big loss.

Pettitte would have been a huge fit for the yankees from 04-06. Imagine him going in the postseason instead of Wright this yr, instead of Mussina while injured last yr, and instead of Kevin Brown in game 7 of 2004. (Yeah he missed a lot of time in 04, but he tore an elbow tendon swinging a bat, something he wouldnt have been doing in NY). He will give 200IP have a 4ERA and will win 15-20 games just due to his durability.

Nice signing for the Yankees. Money talk is all out the window on every single front this year. There have been some amazing prices this year, I guess that's just the flavor. In this market I'm pretty sure that Pettitte is a 15m pitcher.

That's what I thought. They usually are.

You and I haven't always seen eye to eye, but I love it when you talk smack to and about Yankee fans.

Title changed to retain the civility of the GBT Board.

I think that maybe, just maybe 1 year, 15 million isnt a good idea...but then you have to consider the state of the Yankees starting rotation. Wang and Mussina are the only two solid performers right now. Johnson and Pavano are iffy at best and Karstens may or may not be ready.

1 year and 15 million for an established LHP is better than trying to turn Scott Proctor into a starter.

they took the media bait, just like a ton of sox fans took bait when their stars left.

I'm not sold on Pettite. I never really cared all that much for him when he was there. I would still much rather have Zito. A 4.20 ERA in Houston doesn't do it for me in the AL.The Yankees have a #1 in Wang and four #4's. We need a #2 and #3 type starter.

Hooray Lilly!

Hooray Pettite!

Hooray Mussina!

Hooray Johnson!

I'm going to be sick.
