It's AAV. They did that to prevent fudging the numbers with structured contracts to avoid penalties (like you see in the NFL). Wherever you saw that was wrong.

At this point, i think the sox, with a little pen solidification, will be a very serious contender and an upper-echelon team next year. I think we should just keep manny and try to win a world series next year (im sure gom will laugh at me even suggesting this as a possibility), and if the team doesnt turn out like we envision it now or becomes injury-riddled and fall out of contention, we should offload manny at the trade deadline to a contender for some prospects. Next year's FA market is inexplicably better, and with the money we'd save by trading manny could be spent on a Torii Hunter/Andruw Jones type player.

I'm predicting that Andruw Jones gets 18m a season next year and I don't see the Sox getting rid of Manny for Torii Hunter.

i was just giving some examples of the caliber of the players on the market next year...and even if we did sign jones for 18 mil a year, and traded manny for spects, that would essentially be like trading manny for Jones and prospects...not too bad in my mind

Well it seems as tho Manny will be staying despite some sites trying to keep the trade rumors alive. Our line up will look nice this coming season. And if for some reason it doesn't work out with Manny during the first part of the season, I say we put him back on the block at the trade deadline and get whatever we want for him. LA,SD,SF,SEA and whoever else will be willing to give more up if there in the middle of a division race. If this is what happens, expect the Sox to put whoever wants Manny, over the barrel and get whatever they want. That will make whichever team that gets him, wish they had done the deal now:thumbsup:

Id rather Putz and Beltre/Sexon. I dont think we really need Jones

 

I actually think that Putz and Sexson for Manny might be a good trade for both sides. Best deal the Sox would get and the Mariners can have Manny DH with an OF of Ibanez/Ichiro/Guillen and put Broussard at 1B
