Not if the pitchers have figured him out and he becomes a .250 hitter with no power like he was in the second half of 2006. I'm not willing to take the bet that his second half was due to fatigue. He's a first baseman not a catcher. I think the league has him figured out, and .250 hitter with 100 k's and no powerwill not be worth much. His upward ceiling is just not high enough to justify the risk that he ends up being a slow-footed, average fielding corner guy off the bench. Sell high. This guy has nowhere to go but down.

I respect your opinion but completely disagree, unless by sell high you mean something like Youkilis + Crisp = Andruw Jones. Otherwise I think you're talking about getting a RP or something for him and I just don't think that's enough.

 

To say that the league has figured out a guy who can get on base 38% of the time in his first full season while seeing more pitches than almost anyone in baseball just sounds improbable. I'd be willing to bet that there are plenty of pitchers who are aware of what Youkilis is capable of.

 

I don't need to argue it though cause I think whether he's traded or not he'll prove you wrong.

I see them keeping Youk until mid-season. If he's not performing the way they want then I could see him as part of a deal at the trade deadline. We can survive with him at first, but we will need to get a big bat for CF,RF,SS,3B. Someone besides Manny and Papi.

Gonzo has better power? 9 HRs this year vs. Lugo's 12 (yes Lugo had approx. 50 more ABs this year). Not even worth talking about.

 

Thing about Gonzo that bugs me is he had at least 30 doubles the last three years. He comes to Boston, one of MLB's premier doubles parks, and only gets 24? And if you look at his historical hitting chart, he pulls the ball a lot. He should have tattood the wall.

 

Love his 'D' though, shoulda been the gold glove winner.

We have already resigned holdovers Timlin, Wakefield and now Cora. That doesn't sound like improvement to me; only more of the same. It will only get worse if we don't upgrade at shortstop. Yes, Gonzales can field with the best of them, but the fact is that except for one hot streak this past season he was a complete washout at the plate. Look at his offense. He cannot hit, cannot hit in the clutch, cannot bunt for a base hit, cannot even get down a sacrifice, cannot steal a base when he does get on because he hasn't the speed, cannot draw a walk because he rotten plate discipline. In other words, he is a complete zero offensively. As it was, even Francona knew it because he started pinch hitting for him late in the season---four months too late.
