I also wouldn't remind. I still think his attitude was instrumental in not letting the Sox just fold up their tent after game 3 or the 2004 ALCS. I love that clip of him talking to the fans and saying that this is just the way they like it. He just kept running around and telling everyone, "Don't let us win today, because we got Pedro in game 5 and Schilling in game 6." This year's team folded its tent when the going got tough.

I believe I said something of this in the "to-do list thread". Millar is one of my favorite players ever. I think he brings something very unique to the clubhouse and was instrumental in our World Series. Bring back Millar!

Kevin Millar has been quoted as saying that he would like to return to Boston to be a bat off the bench and help revitalize the clubhouse chemistry he helped build. I wouldnt be opposed at all if that were to happen.

Bat off the bench? Hell he'd be fighting for starting playing time. Youkilis didnt exactly light the world on fire. Millars numbers werent that far off of Youks.

While he is by no means a good outfielder, he is a better outfielder than Youklis.

I originally started this reply saying "Do you smoke crack?" Then I went and looked at the stats ..........

BA	OBP	SLG
Millar	.272	.374	.437
Youk	.279	.381	.429

I've posted their stats before the season ended. Youk's advantage over Millar is that he is cheap. I found it interesting how everyone had praised Youk all season long when his stats were only marginally better than Millar who gets a beating on Red Sox fan boards. I think that there weren't much expectations for Youk in his first full ML season. He started hot and proved that he was capable of holding down a major league job. We had higher expectations for Millar, especially after his first two years in Boston. Now, Millar is probably willing to come back to the Sox for a cheap price. Youklis is still cheap, but he lacks the qualities that Millar brings to the clubhouse. Also, Youk's ridiculous remarks about the fans with regard to Tavarez were unnecessarily negative. Millar is almost 100% positive in his attitude. I'd sign Millar and consider trading Youk.

HAHA I know what you mean bro, we rode Millar straight outta town calling for his head and saying how much better Youk would do.

We all make mistakes, the funny thing is that besides 700hitter, I havent seen anyone else mention it.

We know.

Wouldn't mind him off of the bench. I know Youk isn't the youngest of players, but I still think we are yet to see the best of what he can do given that this year was his first full year. I would love to see Millar back in the clubhouse and only off of the bench or filling in for someone on a day off ... this team doesn't have enough fun anymore. Manny, Ortiz and Wily Mo all have their own connection going on but I don't see the life that the other teams had. Millar is a great fastball pitcher, and he would be great to stick in the lineup late in the game when we need a hit off of a hard throwing pitcher.

I will, as well, admit to being one of the people that bashed Millar and called for his head, while simultaneously singing Youk's praises. My crow eating starts at those numbers, I suppose. Good find, SCM33. I'm shocked at those numbers. Didn't realize how similiar they were either. My reaction to your statement was about what MC Hammer's looked like.

millar ??

between him and wily mo they'll have to move a net over to the left field foul area to catch all the screaming line drives they pull

youks #s were good while we were competetive

as soon as the team tanked, youk went along for the ride as well

millar sucks

we need pitching not another washed up dh

""cowboy up""

wasnt that the phrase they borrowed for brokeback mountain??

Um, for those of you who claim Millar is 100% positive, have you forgotten how he bitched about sharing playing time with Mientkiewicz (even though Doug was only brought in as a defensive replacement) and how he complained about sharing time with Olerud (even though he was in the process of being the worst first baseman in baseball)?

How about his "F*CK them all", T-Shirt, referring to the fans who booed him because he sucked so badly?

Youkilis is younger, just as good, and a MUCH better defender. Neither one of them belong in the outfield. Millar KILLED us there defensively.

Don't you remember the fact that Millar can't hit lefties, he can't hit good pitchers, he can't hit away from Fenway, and he can't hit in the clutch?

Youkilis' best years are AHEAD of him, Millar's are BEHIND. Millar isn't as positive an influence as most think, either. Remember, he bitches when he's not playing every day, and this dude is not an everyday player.

Just say "no" to Kevin Millar.

We're talking about if he came back to be a bat off a bench, having a bench/role player position. We're not discussing him getting the starting position back

That Brokeback Mountain can only be funny if that movie came out back in 2003, not 2 years after the phrase was started up

did he ever have a starting position here??

if so,was it for more than a week??

hes a blow hard

he cant hit for s***

he cant field for s***

he cant run for s*** either

i hope the negotiations with his battery of agents produces another memorable phrase like

COWBOY UP....

wtf??

the only people wearing cowboy boots in boston are getting hit in the shitter over in the jamaica plain estates or in ptown or in a quiet brownstone in the south end..

cowboy up??

any wonder why the pink hats exploded onto the scene after this most memorable phrase?

Funny thing is' date=' this was Youk's first full season. He's 27. Millar is 35. That said, having Millar back as a backup OF/1B wouldn't kill.[/quote']

Millar would not agree to stay on the bench. He would be gripping for playing time and that would impace playing time for Youk, Murphy or some other player. My memory is not short. I know how he gripped and complained when John Olerud was playing over him in the middle of 2005, and it seemed every time John had a good day he was on the bench the next because Francona was going with "his guy". Yes, he would be great for the clubhouse and I would take him back if he would keep his mouth shut about playing time and accept his role----AND if the front office told Francona that under no circumstance does Millar take the place of someone in the starting lineup unless that player is hurt. Youk was shuttled around like a piece of furniture all 2005 while Kevin stunk up the place. That must not happen again.:dunno: :dunno: :dunno:

if you cannot appreciate what Kevin Millar did for the 2003 and 2004 teams, you did not follow those teams very well. Stats aren't every thing. What kind of crappy fan says that about a guy that was the moral leader of a team? Any other fan on this board would agree that Millar was a key figure in the clubhouse and should be brought back for a reasonable contract.

"moral leader"?

millar played a role for sure, a lot of factors worked together to make his contribution effective.

but I'm not sure he was a moral leader.
