Whoops, I just posted this is small talk.

All the local NY news around here says that it was a member of the Yanks, but not nessicarily Cory Lidle, although that would make sense.

Lidle dies as plane crashes into Manhattan high-rise

ESPN.com news services

NEW YORK -- A small plane piloted by New York Yankees pitcher Cory Lidle crashed into a 50-story condominium tower Wednesday on Manhattan's Upper East Side, raining flaming debris onto the sidewalks below and rattling New Yorkers' nerves five years after the Sept. 11 attack.

Lidle died in the crash.

The twin-engine plane came through a hazy, cloudy sky and hit the 20th floor of The Belaire -- a red-brick tower overlooking the East River, about five miles from the World Trade Center -- with a loud bang, touching off a raging fire that cast a pillar of black smoke over the city and sent flames shooting from four windows on two adjoining floors.

Horrible thing to happen. My god. RIP Corey.

NYYFANS.COM claims that possibly Bobby Abreau was on the plane with him. Not sure if its true or not and not sure about their sources, I am assuming pure speculation on their part....

Hopefully just speculation, but do you have a quote or anything from over there? If they have a source or something....

jw..are the mets still playing there game tonight?

Probably. Had it been a Mets player, then no. I remember when Daryl Kyle died they postponed that Cards/Cubs game (and girardi I believe had to make that announcement in tears) but I think other games were played.

sad sad day

interesting article about Lidle and flying from the NY Times a month a go

interesting quote from the article

A player-pilot is still a sensitive topic for the Yankees, whose captain, Thurman Munson, was killed in the crash of a plane he was flying in 1979.

still will be sensitive

Im not seeing a link, probably just speculation...cant figure out why they woudl just make up horrible stuff about their own team.....and fox news just said that Lidle was the only Yankee on the plane...
