There's a first time for everything.

its not happening, I would rather keep manny resign Gonzo and go after big time pitching in the offseason. The last thing this team needs is a self conscious head case. I actually am in the belief that Manny is more vauable hitter, they put up similar numbers anways, also less teams would pitch to Papi because of the known struggles of ARod in the clutch. lets just say no to this and move on.

Just out of curiosity, why wouldn't they bat A-Rod 3rd and Ortiz 4th? I'm not convinced that Ortiz is a lock for the 3 hole for the rest of his career.

Resigning Gonzo is probably not going to happen, unless he's willing to sign for a 2 year deal max. Otherwise he wants to be a starting SS and the sox can't afford to have weak offense if they can get an average hitter/fielder at SS. I love Gonzo but the more I look at it the more I am suspicious of it. I guess it all depends on how much other offensive help they can get.

I agree that we should move on though.

The Sox FO didnt know the offer on the table was from New York' date=' all they knew that it was a 5 year deal. As for Theo, he wasnt officially back on board to handle with resigning Damon. Maybe your blame lies instead towards the rookie GMs & wimpy John Henry[/quote']It doesn't make me feel any better that Cashman was able to outmaneuver everyone in the FO including the owner. If you want to believe that Theo wasn't involved in carrying out the offseason moves, fine. He was there all the time even though he had no official capacity. I don't think he was there to read the newspaper. He and the rest got outmaneuvered again at the trading deadline in much the same way.

I said the same thing before. . .what the f*** are you guys thinking. Why do we want someone who cant guy a hit in the playoffs at all. . .than have ot play manny in them who is a proven winner. I'm sick of even having to look at this s***. What good what It do ever take him. A Red Sox fan who wants A-rod should never be allowed to fenway again. Please why would you even think about it?[/

One advantage is that he is three years younger than Manny, and Manny is starting to get some aches and pains.

The Red Sox not resigning Damon was never about the first year of the deal. You're already back tracking on your Pedro comments when we told you the same exact thing applied to him.

You guys at talksox are about the sharpest of all the fans on all the boards I am on. However, you guys actually believe this?

It's never really an issue for most teams in the last year of their contract to have a bad player. Especially the Yankees and the Red Sox. Big deal.

Cashman, who is not by any means perfect, didn't outmanuever the Red Sox on Damon. Your office completely and utterly dropped the ball. Then they tried to spin it as if Coco was a better investment. Maybe you guys bought it, but here in NY, we were laughing that you let a great part of your team go, part of the good "clubhouse" guys go for what? 1.5 million a year? Are you kidding me?

Is it just plain dumb luck that Jeter may actually win the MVP with the best leadoff hitter he has had in his career in front of him?

Keep in mind this, my hated Red Sox friends. Before you say anything about Johnny Damon's PROJECTED stats in the last year of his contract...and his projected stats are nothing more than a hopeful figment of the Red Sox FO...do any of you really believe it will be any WORSE than Crisp's first year of his contract? Do you really think that Damon in the last year of his contract will hit .264, have an OBP of .317, and a slugging of .385?

For those that do, please contact me. I have a bridge to sell you in Brooklyn. Real cheap.

Well' date=' since when do the RedSox and Yankees make blockbuster trades like this with each other?[/quote']

Danny Cater for Sparky Lyle? LOL!

Actually, I don't know how many of you may know this, but the Yankees and Red Sox GM's agreed to trade Ted Williams for Joe Dimaggio after drinking in a bar together in 1949. They called the trade off in the morning, but what a steal that would have been for the pinstripes. Again. Could you imagine an OF that contained Ted Williams and Mickey Mantle?

Although the teams have never really made a blockbuster trade at the time [there was this guy George Herman or something, but I think it turned out to be a minor deal], but they almost pulled off the biggest trade in baseball history.
