Put me in the Loretta camp. I want Loretta back for another two or three. I don't like the way Pedroia takes huge hacks, I love Loretta. Class act, Good ball player.

i think loretta would be a great guy to have around the clubhouse, but in a bench role. He can play 1st as well as second. He can probly do just as well staying as going, so I think it is a possibility he could stick around and tutor Pedroia some more.

2 or 3 years? did you watch how bad his range was or the .550 OPS he put up in September. He is an overrated player and is the player that I thought we were getting from San Diego. There is no way the red sox will ever commit 2-3 years to him. He is a declining player and very likely to get worse.

I would rather have Gonzo back more so than Loretta, switch Pedroia to short who hit much better as time went on. Loretta is 36 next season, plus he hit in the 190's in september i think.

I want him back. He's a solid player

You're also the same guy who wants the washed up nixon back as well. Both are aging players who will only get worse and help this team less.

Loretta is nowhere near the hitter that Bill Mueller was for the Red Sox. Mueller was much more clutch than Loretta ever will be. Loretta will be 36 next year with bad range and a declining stick as well.

Keep Cora if he's willing to take a bench role, because he plays good D all over the IF. Loretta was about 2 wins over replacement - meh. I won't be upset if they keep him, but I won't lose any sleep if he goes.

Loretta was a classy guy. Pretty decent in the field and a decent bat. For the right price I'd love to see him back with maybe Pedroia playing short.

Yank Hater, our friend Jsing is like so many other posters here and on other boards. They simply do not think that Pedroia is a shortstop. Of course, the Red Sox thought that about David Eckstein, too, and all I remember is that he became a pretty good one for the Angels and helped lead them to a WS Title in 2002 and is leading the Cardinals in the Playoffs this year. I know Loretta personally and this guy is a class act. He would even be better next year. Like you I would love to see him back at 2B and give Dustin a chance to prove he can play SS,. We need every bat we can get in that lineup next year.

Jsing, if you are hinting that you want Gonzales back you have been sniffing something not good for you. The guys has no discipline at the plate and except for one hot streak was utterly useless to us at bat. He swings at bad pitches, hits pathetically in the clutch, and has no speed whatsoever to help us in that area. He has to go. We resign him and that will tell me this team is going to be a waste in the offensive department again next year. Remember, had we not signed him he would not have played this year. He got ZERO other offers. I wonder why.:dunno: :dunno: :dunno: :dunno:

The man could win a gold glove. He was amazing. Not average, AMAZING. We've seen good fielders at SS the past few years in Cabrera and Pokey. Gonzo was better in the field than both of them. He made every single play, effortlessly.

When this team was successful this season it didn't matter that gonzo had a questionable bat.

Ideally, I think the Sox would build their team so Gonzo is the only weak bat in the order and tell him to work on situational hitting: gbs to the right side, fly balls deep and bunts. Get him to take some more pitches and perhaps you can get a .330 OBP from him.

Don't get me wrong: if he's gone next year for a better offensive SS i won't mind. But if the Sox are hoping for offense from a SS to make the difference then they could be in trouble. You could see the confidence Gonzo's fielding gave to the guys on the mound, it was obvious.

Pedroia is just not a good option at short. He doesn't have the range or the arm (yet) to play there in the MLB. He's not quick enough and I saw a few times this season where he grossly misjudged the baserunner's speed and either just barely got him or was late. That type of thing can be worked on, but it should be natural at this point in one's career.

Pedroia is the 2B of the future, we should embrace it. Loretta was decent for a season. If he wants one more then I'd give it to him, otherwise you can't get tied in to helping Loretta finish his career in Boston. He will get old quickly.

I like Lorretta' date=' my dad knows him and the guy is nothing but a class act. He's a perfect fit for the team.[/quote']

Not at his age and declining skills.

Gonzo and Cora mean more to me than Loretta, but I do like Loretta, I understand why he shouldn't come back, I just have a man crush on him. I think re-signing Gonzo is a big deal and the depth Cora gives you is a huge luxury.

PS - everyone of you guys better tune into my new sports show I have on my colleges radio station. Ill post times and whine when no one is listening. Its broadcasted on the internet so its easy. You can read my whining and hear it too. It will be special.

loretta was good all year he was solid ... better than most 2nd basemen classy guy why not keep him around . He played when he was hurting at the end of season now thats grit ... thats what you want on the team

The only reason I'd want Loretta to walk is because he could get a multi-year deal elsewhere. So, it's for his interests, and his alone, that I wouldn't haaaaaaaate seeing him go. From a team and fan standpoint, however...I really want to see him back here. He's a nice guy, good to the fans, and I don't understand how people say he's not clutch...I know for a fact he had AT LEAST 2 GW walk-off hits this season...the HR and the off-the-monster double against Cleveland.

JSinger...do you not agree that this year, numbers wise, you'd be compromising if you subtract Loretta and put in Pedroia? There's NO question about it...

Loretta's numbers were nothing specatucular. He has no power whatsoever and very little range. His OPS was .706 and that can be matched by Pedroia next year with consistent playing time.

agon is the smoothest shortstop ive yet to see play in fenway

Smooth enough for a 3-4 year deal at 5+ million a year? Too steep for me. If he's willing to be a UTIL and play every few days, possibly some 2nd or 3rd as well, depending on what happens with other starters, then I'd pay him a little more than a guy like Cora.

I'm just not that into Cora... am I missing something?

I sincerely hope that you aren't on the WMP bandwagon saying things like that about A-Gon... Cuz that would be a damn shame... it would be liek living in a glass house and throwing stones.

i too liekloretta and would love to see him back. it's probably not going to happen, but it would be nice if he were. great d at 2nd and wasn't awful at the plate. i had no complaints. and then he took over at first from time to time. love the guy...

Jsing, let me save you the time and the effort... "Not at his age and declining skills."

OPS is not the best measure for a # 2 hitter. OBP, low k ratio, pitches/AB are more important measures in front of Ortiza and Manny. We don't need Pedroia swinging for the fences.

I don't care either way, he was decent. Good guy, decent bat, good fielder. I doubt he'll return unless he'll take a paycut to be a utility guy. This FO seems to think that Pedroia is the real deal.
