Back from the futures game. Good win for Lowell. Sat in the section with all the scouts so I pretty much had access to gun readings and all. Kris Johnson was so so for me. Prolly had some nerves and he still likely isn't fully recovered from TJS. Justin Masterson was spectacular. 4 really dominant innings. got in one jam because an error then the next guy doubled but easily ended the inning with a K. He needs to be a starter. Lil paps closed it out for the spinners. Game 2 I was only staying until Hansen pitched. 2 innings for him. Pretty much was 94-96 with his fastball and low 90's with his cut fastball along with 87-88 on his slider. He should be using his slider more to get ahead in counts. He gave up 4 hits and a run. 3 of them were hit hard off him and was a bloop. could have been worse if it were not for I believe 2 double plays. I actually was behind Red Sox director of ameutor scouting Jason McLeod and asked him what the plans are for Masterson next year and if he would be a starter. He said that he would be pitching in 4 inning stints next year so that leads me to believe he could be a starter eventually because he has the stuff for it.

Anyone planning on going this year?

I'll be heading up there with the Renegades for the games, which i'm really looking forward to. I can't wait to see the Fenway of today. The last time I was there was back in 2000, before all of the great additions, upgrades, and renovations; so it'll be cool to just be able to enjoy Fenway in that atmosphere. I'd probably find it hard to appreciate it as much if it were a Sox game or something, with so much noise and people and whatnot, so when I found out we were sending busses up there for the games I hopped on board right away.

Who is Portland gonna be playing? I just read it but I forgot already

Portland's playing the Harrisburg Senators.

I wanted to go, but I'm going to be college touring in the Virginia/DC/Maryland area so I won't be able to. Luckily I'm going to the Sox game on the 12th at Camden Yards, so that'll be cool (it's my first Sox game at a stadium not named Fenway Park, lol).

I really wanted to go this year but I'm going to be in DC at the time. I'm sure jsinger will end up being there. He roams the boards but doesn't post. If you PM him I'm sure you could find him if you wanted to.

I think 26 to 6 is going too.

Im going tomorrow :) I have seats somewhere behind home plate. The futures game double header has set up nicely for pitching matchups.

For the Lowell Spinners it will be rising pitching prospect Jose Capellan. He is one who pounds the strike zone, notice he has walked just 7 and allowed 42 hits in 53 innings (.219 avg). As well as 53 Ks and allowing just 1 HR in his 10 starts

For the Portland Seadogs it will be Michael Bowden, pysched it will be my first time to get a look at this kid. He was having a tough go around in the first half sporting a 5+ ERA. But since the all star break he has responded nicely in 4 starts, going 3-0 with a 2.25 ERA

It was fun. Nothing like 8 1/2 hours at Fenway sitting in the boiling sun. I had very nice seats, 7 rows back right next to Canvas Alley (the side closer to home plate). I got there about 30 minutes early for the Lowell game, I got a couple autographs from Lowell players I'd never heard of, and settled in for a quick paced pitchers duel. Hudson Valley (Tampa Bay Devil Rays) scored one in the top of the first, thanks to 2 Lowell errors. Another error was made by HV in the bottom half, but after the jitters went away, the fielding was fine. Jose Capellan was good, going 6 innings allowing no earned runs. Lowell went on to win the game in the 9th on a walkoff double, 2-1.

Lowell and Hudson Valley fled the field, and Portland and Harrisburgh (Washington Nationals) warmed up. I hounded for some more autographs and got a few, including one from Justin Masterson and Aaron Bates. This one was basically the opposite of the Lowell game, as it was already 3-3 after 1 inning. After an hour of baseball, it was only the bottom of the 2nd. Michael Bowden was bad. Don't remember the exact numbers, but it was 3 or so innings and 8 runs. Harrisburg blew it open early, taking an 8-3 lead. Portland came storming back with 5 runs in the 6th, including a solo homer from Andrew Pickney. The teams exchanged runs in the 8th, but Harrisburg got 2 in the 9th. Portland rallied again, scoring 3 in the 9th to win a back and forth game.

It was a fun all around experience. Got to see some of the game's future stars, had the best seats I've ever had at Fenway, got on the jumbo tron, got some autographs. It was awesome, I recommend it next year.

Boo for me getting sick and having to leave at the bottom of teh 5th inning of the Sea Dogs game :(

I guess at least I got to see the Spinners walkoff. Like Coco said, Capellan looked solid as he went 6 innings while striking out 3. He did give up 1 run but that was helped by 2 errors in the inning (pickoff attempt, throwing error on sac fly). The scouting report rang true as he kept pounding the strike zone sometimes having quick 1-2-3 innings. I was also very impressed by newly drafted Adam Mills. His fastball sat in the low 90s but its sneaky and the hitters were acting like it was 95. He went 3 scoreless innings, striking out 3, and got the Win
