A little early again but hey why not. After finally breaking their losing streak they have to keep the wins coming. Beckett is gonna have to come out strong. Lets continue with the relatively newb mojo!

Game Info:

Date: Thursday, August 24th, 2006

First Pitch: 10:05pm EDT

TV: NESN

Starting Pitchers: BOS: RHP Josh Beckett (13-8, 5.35 ERA)

LAA: RHP Jered Weaver (9-0, 1.95 ERA)

Finally, the Red Sox can show up and just try to win a game, without the burden of ending a losing streak.

The Red Sox snapped their six-game skid Wednesday night and hand the ball to struggling right-hander Josh Beckett in the rubber match of this three-game series against the Angels on Thursday.

Though the Red Sox trail the Yankees by 6 1/2 games in the American League East and the White Sox by four in the Wild Card standings, they are trying to stay focused on their own business.

"We know that one good week and we're back in it," said Red Sox reliever Mike Timlin. "One good week where we have four or five wins and they have three or four losses, we're right back there. Time is not flying. But what we need to do is, we're not watching them, we're not watching the Yankees, we're watching the Red Sox. That's our main concern."

Pitching matchup

BOS: RHP Josh Beckett (13-8, 5.35 ERA)

Beckett got roughed up for the second straight start and went his fifth straight outing without getting the win. He allowed nine runs and seven hits in 5 2/3 innings against the Yankees, to go along with a career-high nine walks. Beckett needs to pitch to his potential if the Red Sox are to make a serious playoff run, and with six weeks left in the regular season, he needs to locate his pitches now.

LAA: RHP Jered Weaver (9-0, 1.95 ERA)

Weaver can set an American League record for rookies if he can win his 10th straight decision. The right-hander scattered three hits over seven scoreless innings on Friday against the Mariners. Batters have a difficult time picking up Weaver's pitches because of his deceptive delivery, and thus far, when Weaver's command has been strong, he's been nearly impossible to hit.

Player to watch

DH David Ortiz clubbed a two-run homer in Wednesday's game and the Red Sox hope he's ready to go on another power binge.

Why not bat Youkilis 2nd (high OBS) and Pena 4th (3rd highest slugging percentage on the team behind Papi and Manny)? Either way, Papi will be lucky to see three balls in the strike zone all night from Weaver.

Scouts checking LaLoosh out at a young age...

Stop being Nuke LaLoosh, and start being Josh Beckett. It begins today.

With who we are facing tonight, it would have been nice to see manram in there. Loretta has been jacked up since sunday, he's needed the time off and pedroia has hit the ball hard --just at people...he should be ok.

beckett just needs to stop worrying about the blister and pitch. boston is the cutting edge in the medical community---i'm pretty sure they can figure out a blister beckett---just pitch

Beckett needs to throw strikes and let them hit the ball. Most of his problems come from trying to work the corners too much and getting himself behind in counts.

Eventhough it's not our regular defense we still have a good defense out there ... use it Josh.

unfortunately, we can't put defense in the seats

But again those HRs come from being behind in counts and having to throw too many good strikes.

This is good news despite Manny not playing tonight:

MRI shows no structural damage to Manny's kneeAssociated Press

ANAHEIM, Calif. -- An MRI exam on Manny Ramirez's right knee showed no structural damage, but the Boston Red Sox slugger wasn't in the lineup for Thursday night's game against the Los Angeles Angels.

"Thankfully the MRI came back and everything's structurally clean," Red Sox manager Terry Francona said. "He does have some patella tendinitis, which we kind of knew already. So we eliminated some structural things that maybe worried us, which is good. Now we'll just see how he feels."

Wily Mo Pena started in left field and Kevin Youkilis batted in the cleanup spot usually occupied by Ramirez.

Ramirez came out of Wednesday night's 5-4 victory by the Red Sox after chasing a double in the left-field corner by Orlando Cabrera and a two-run single by Juan Rivera in the third inning. Ramirez grounded out in his only two at-bats.

"It hurt enough for him to come out of the game yesterday, so I can't imagine today him feeling like a hundred dollars," Francona said. "I don't think we have a time frame. We'll have to listen to him and listen to the medical people and see where they think he is. I don't think that tendinitis goes away overnight. It's probably going to come down to what he can tolerate."

Ramirez, hitting .328 with 34 homers and 100 RBI, didn't start Tuesday night's game because of a cramp in his right hamstring but flied to the warning track as a pinch hitter in the ninth inning of a 4-3 loss.

But plenty of people will be willing to jump all over his ass if he doesn't run out a grounder.

Certainly not you. You only yell at people when they don't spend enough money for you.

Another ridiculous comment meant to instigate. You should at least attempt to engage in intelligent discourse. People might actually become interested in reading your posts.

You've done nothing but complain for the last month about the Sox not spending enough money. What about my comment is ridiculous?

Where do trades figure in? I guess you just can't get the distinction between spending money to get value , e.g. Damon and Petey and wasting money on garbage like Clement and Hinske, and overpaying Renteria. You should be able to grasp these simple concepts. You should also be smart enough to understand your own motives when you make a post. Your post was unresponsive to my post which you quoted and it was clearly meant to iiritate.
