Maybe at the very least we'll start seeing Ortiz produce again. Just in time for the sox to run out of options in the magic number race.

Other than Schilling and Papelbon, name a pitcher that has been good. You cant win with 2 good pitchers. Also our offense aganist good pitching has been awful lately.

It makes losing a Schilling start that much tougher, because now we get to throw three piles of s*** on the mound to start the next three games and then you hold your breath when Beckett starts. Beckett and Schilling were keeping us in the race for a long time. Once they hit a lull and the FO brought in not a single reinforcement we were toast. THis weekend could be a massacre. They need to win at least 3 of 5 this weekend to stay within striking distance. With "The Ultimate Loser" starting the series we will be getting off on the wrong foot.

Timlin after non-chalantly letting the go-ahead run score in his lone inning of relief, couldve been a lot worse if not for Wily Mo getting an assist at 2nd base

"We've been throwing the ball really well," Red Sox reliever Mike Timlin said. "It's just right now, we're not hitting as well as we're pitching, and that cycles through all year long. Sometimes, they're scoring a bunch of runs and we're not pitching very well. That's why it's a team and we'll muddle through it."

Wait, what?... the pitching staff is throwing the balll really well right now? Im gonna have to call ******** on that, sorry Mikey

He must be watching the yankees on TV in the bullpen. He's got to be kidding. After Schilling, the rotation consists of the three stooges and the fat half of Jake and the Fat Man.

Fatty tonight against the Kid' date=' not looking good, except for Verlander has struggled recently, possibly arm troubles, possibly just overusage.[/quote']

more like overusage. if he was hurt he would be shutdown right now and that wouldn't even be a question.

heres a more detailed quote from the Boston Herald. He really believes the pitching staff, not the offense, is getting it done. Keep drinking that kool-aid, at least Schilling speaks truthfully

After the game, Timlin wondered aloud about the Red Sox offense.

“I’m not calling anybody out, but we haven’t scored a whole lot,” Timlin said. “We’re pitching well, we’re holding teams down  , and they’re doing the same to us. It’s not that they’re outpitching us or we’re outpitching them, it’s just right now we’re not hitting as well as we’re pitching.”

That’s not entirely true. Though we’re not talking Murderers Row here, the Sox went into last night’s game with a .288 team batting average in their last 21 games and were averaging 5.95 runs per game. But Timlin is correct on this point: The Sox don’t win the nailbiters. In their last six defeats, the Sox have lost by a total of nine runs.

“Baseball’s weird,” said third baseman Mike Lowell, who went 0-for-4 last night and is just 9-for-44 over his last 12 games. “It’s kind of a selfish game in a team concept in the sense that I can’t get (Kevin Youkilis) ready to hit. He’s got to do his thing, I’ve got to do my thing, and we’re hoping it all comes together, but it hasn’t seemed like we’ve been in the flow.”

Schilling, without specifically citing the offense, put it this way: “As a staff, we’ve got to pitch consistently better, every day. Tonight was a case where the kid outpitched me, but we’ve got to be consistent. Our rotation has got to stretch it out. We can’t ask these guys to come in ball games in the seventh inning every night. There’s no team that can do that. It’s late in the second half. That’s the way it is. The responsibility falls on us. I sure don’t want anyone backing away from that. That’s part of where you make your reputation.”

While Michael Silverman does point out that last 6 defeats, the Sox have lost by a total of 9 runs... just maybe thats because of the Sox bullpen/starting pitching blowing leads or tacking on runs for the opposing teams in the late innings. The Sox cant always have walkoff wins

A few remarks about Timlin's comment:

1. Clearly he was wrong about the pitching. Anyone with a pair of eyes and access to team stats can confirm the pitching has been suffering lately.

2. I saw the post game interview and the comment was made off the cuff, and probably he'd take it back if given the chance. It was made in the heat of the moment of just having lost a close game in which lack of offense was the main reason for the loss.

3. Timlin, to the best of my knowledge, doesn't have a history of throwing his teammates under the bus.

4. Thanks to the Boston media which feeds on this sort of thing, the comment has been blown out of proportion.

5. If I were a member of the Red Sox I would never ever address any member of the media.
