Schilling has been good not great. If you look at his stats beyond just the wins he has NOT been the same pitcher he once was. Hes given up more then a hit an inning, his BAA is .268(27 points above his career BAA), his SLGA is .460. The thing that has kept him from having an ERA around Josh Beckett is the walks. He doesnt walk anyone.

Not if Ortiz can stay ahead of him... but wait I thought DH's dont deserve to be the MVP

A DH shouldnt win if a player who plays in the field is putting up similar numbers. Going back to 2005 A-Rod out proformed Ortiz in almost every stat while playing a good 3B. This year happens to be the year of the DH. 3 of the top 4 players leading in OPS are DH's. Manny Ramirez in fact is my MVP this year. Maybe if he hit a few walk off shots he would get more votes.

But he doesn't walk people. Your argument is ridiculous. It would be like saying that a pitcher doesn't give up more hits because the batters keep missing the ball. He has again become a big winner. This is the comeback player award we are talking about not the Cy Young award, where he will admittedly have more competition.

My point was Schilling doesnt put men on via the walk thus he is not as prone to having the big inning like Josh Beckett has had this year. A pitcher has contol over the walks he hands out. The same cant be said all the time for hits that a pitcher gives up.

It is ridiculously if you are using it as a justification for your argument that his season has not been that great.

Schilling hasnt been "great". Wins is not a very good way to judge how well a pitcher has pitched. Jason Marquis has 12 wins, it doesnt mean hes having a great season. Johan Santana is having a great season, Justin Verlander is having a great season, Liriano etc. Schilling is having a good season however he is not as great as he once was. Thats my overall point. Jim Thome however is on his way to 50 HR's. One of his best seasons ever. Thats why I'm voting for him.

You were using his low walk total to denigrate his ERA and explain that it should be higher. That is why your argument is ridiculous. Runs are runs. It doesn't matter if they come from hits or walks. If you give up less walks you have eraned having a lower ERA, so what is your point?

Dont put Marquis in your defense while explaining about how Schilling hasnt had a great season

Thats it, he hasnt pitched like the dominate Curt Schilling BUT because he doesnt walk anyone his ERA isnt around 4.50. I wasnt trying to develop a ground breaking theroy.

Your kidding right? I was talking about how wins isnt the best stat to look at when trying to see how good of a season the pitcher is having. Marquis is the best example of that. Curt Schilling is still clearly good while Jason Marquis is trash. I figured you could figure that out without me saying that. But I guess not.

i voted for Frank Thomas myself. really think he should have retired a few years ago, but he is having a good year, and is hitting more like the Big Hurt instead of acting like a Big Hurt. in the N.L. i went with Nomar.

I'm going with Thome and Beltran, both putting up MVP numbers and being huge run producers after being practically no factor a year ago.

Just wondering, if they have a comeback player of the year, why don't they have a dropoff player of the year? A rod would that one for sure.

Anyway, I'd go with Thome although Schilling is in contention.
