Two games in the loss column, possibly 3 after today. Our arrow is pointing down and theirs is pointing up.

you have to put that into perspective though. The sox were up 4 games in the loss column a month ago. Now they are down 2. Either way, this month is the sox chance to take ground on the yanks. The yakkees have a very tough stretch coming up. The sox have a similar horruble stretch next month. If the sox go into september downa few games, they may not be able to make it up.

True story. My old manager always used to say that when describing Alex Rodriguez. After the 20th time, I walked out of the door, and never returned, but not before questioning his mental state of mind, or if his IQ was lower then Rodriguez' jersey number.

 I'm pretty sure his IQ is lower then 13.

I agree, but as a manager you just can't take the risk of walk walking the go ahead run to third.

True, it was an off the wall idea in a situation where you were facing one of the great hitters ever. The worked out for them anyway.

Tavarez sucks. Papelbon is not so fuking intense today. And we cant even win a series vs. the fricken Drays. That is f*cking pathetic

I apologize ... we've been "sliding" for a month+ and we're 2 losses behind. I still stand by my point.
On July 2nd we finished a tremendous winning streak against the NL. It was after that the team cooled off, just about a month, and our arrow is headed down while the yankees

Gee, walkoff HR by the s***** Rays that don't have Lugo, Wiggington or Huff. I wonder why I am not optimistic about this team.

Listen man, Papelbon is the 2nde best closer in the MLBthis year. He has blown only 4 saves in 34 chance. He didnt lose the game, and sometimes you have to pick up your closer. Don't blamre him.

You continue talking about these arrows that I don't see anywhere. What I see is a team that has not been playing great, but is still 1 series away from being back in first place.

Agreed. It was the middle relievers who coughed up a great big fur ball this afternoon.

Kansas City coming up, Sox (backed up by good pitching) only was able to get 7 runs. Maybe you guys can improve that

EDIT: Thanks Tina Cervasio, red sox fans watching want to see you talk to Greg Norton after a dis-heartening loss

Yeah, but the Yankees are the only team people are pointing to about doing things at the deadline. The Yankees have much less to lose, in my valuation, in terms of young players by trading them away. The Yankees mantra is not so much "on base percentage and long at bats" (like the sox) but rather "get the best available player" in the old-school sense of the term.

Perhaps what the Yankees know that we don't is that THEY need to buy another high-priced overhyped slugger in order to placate their fans who are not intelligent enough, nor patient enough to wait for a good thing to develop. Perhaps they care a lot more about what the fans think than the Sox FO does. The only reason they were willing to stick with Jeter and Posada and that crew coming up in the 90's was because their team was horrible for so many years before hand. Most of the good teams at this point are retaining their best talent rather than trading it away: the Sox, Mets, Angels, Twins, etc., none of them believe that any overpriced FA/Trade is worth doing at the expense of younger players who could be cornerstones for years to come.

Yes but we let our cornerstones--proven veterans and winners walk away. That was just stupid. We would not be arguing about trading the kids if the FO didn't f*** up by letting Pedro and Damon go. We would have traded Marte for some bull pen help, and we'd still have the future with all the young arms. The yanks don't let their guys walk. The White Sox didn't let their guys walk. We let our guys walk like they were fungible goods. The FO is a bunch of lying *******s that talked the talk about winning several championships and within two years of winning it all they will manage to put together a team that will not even make the playoffs. You can delude yourself that the futre is bright, what is our rotation going to be next year. Schilling at age 40, Beckett, Lester (still largely unproven) and Wakefield ( a 40yr old knuckleballer) and ...who? Wells will be gone. Clement is a loser, head case deluxe. Who? The FA market is nothing great this year. Our RF they will let walk for Wily K King Pena. They will probably also let either or both Gonzalez and Loretta walk for who Peroia? Yeah, this franchise is going in the right direction. Sure. What's going in the right direction are the profits for the sold out ballpark every night. Who will be the 4th OF next year. Kapler the hitting machine? BTW Damon hit his 15th today. His decline has been precipitous, hasn't it. Pedro still has a winning % of about .700 since he left. He clearly can no longer produce. There's no room in our rotation for a dinosaur like a Pedro, who keeps winning games at a .700 clip. None whatsoever.

I hope you didn't hurt yourself jumping off the bridge.

Seriously, two games back with 52 games left, you'd think we blew the 7th game of the World Series in this game thread.

Bunch of pessimists, the majority of you.If the Sox sweep KC, they pick up ground on either the White Sox or Yankees. There's plenty of season left. Just sit back and take it a day at a time. Absolutely no reason to panic yet. We'll know more after the 5 game series later in the month anyway.

I'll say that letting Pedro walk was a mistake but I still think letting Damon walk wasn't. 15 homers or not, I'd like to see if he's worth $13 mil in years 3 and 4 of his deal when he injures his back getting out of his car in year 1 of his deal

this team has the talent to be a serious contender but right now, it's just not happening and it's frustrating cause it's a crucial time of the year and now is not the time to be losing series to the Rays

If we kept them both and won 1 or 2 more championships, you say thank you to them if they suck in the last year of their contracts and bring in replacements like Ellsbury and Lester, etc.

I am just very pissed at a FO that seems to make more bad decisions than good, and then they sit and do nothing to help the team that they helped decimate by creating the holes.

You can't really pick and choose the arguments you make, because I don't think Pedro will be worth his deal in two years, either. Lest we forget he got shut down early last year due to injury and has a .700 winning percentage in the National League. IMO, Pedro and Damon were let go for the same reasons, so if Pedro was a mistake Damon was, too.

I happen to agree with what the FO decided to do in those instances, but then again that's neither here nor there. Also, I'd like to know how many of Damon's homeruns are Yankee Stadium specials. Keep in mind that Fenway isn't the best HR park for lefties.

I just dont see the Sox looking at Trot keeping his role as starting right fielder. He has a tough time staying healthy, 4 or 5 times he has been on DL last 3 seasons. He's not expected back until late August which is best case scenario. Theres also the power drop. Disconcering to any team for a corner outfielder & their every day #5 hitter

2003

134 games- 28 HRs, 94 RBIs

2004-2006

264 games (avg 88 games a season)- 26 HRs, 137 RBIs

Remember we're not the Yankees ... we do want to stay under the Luxury Tax.

Stop crying about the past and live in the now.

The bad moves can be defended, though. I really think the only legit mistakes he made were paying too much for Renteria, and the fact that he can never really build a consistent pen.
