Hansen killed this game.

He was a big part. Having the bottom half of the lineup go 0-13 with a GIDP was just as important. Actually, throw Youk in there too. Spots 5-9 went 0-17.

Yeah they tag teamed the loss, but at the end of the day we lose as a team.

I'm pretty sure that they just resigned Ortiz and that Manny is under contract for a little bit longer.

I understand being critical, but I think this is the best front office in baseball right now, and that's AFTER doing all the research I can both about baseball statistics and how front offices work.

If you think this group of owners/GM would let this team get to the point of having Darren Lewis being the center piece you're crazy man. Be real.

They are not going to perform at this level forever. It is historic, because no duo has done what they have done for 1 year, never mind 3 years in a row. These are precious years that will go by without Championships. Guys like this can't be replace. No FA could replace Manny. I've been watching Red Sox baseball for 39 years, and I can tell you that we you are lucky to see one hitter like this on the Sox in each generation.

BTW We are behind in the wild card race by a game in the loss column and we have Jason "lifetime .377 Winning %" Johnson pitching tomorrow and Contreras is going for the White Sox. We have a great chance of falling further behind in both standings.

That was...not exciting.

Now the Yanks, Red Sox, White Sox and Twins are going to win out and we'll look back on this game and kill ourselves because we couldn't take advantage and get the game back that we needed. And we will miss the playoffs.

I love you all.

Boston Red Sox's David Ortiz (34) congratulates Manny Rodriguez, right, after scoring on Rodriguez's two-run homer off Tampa Bay Devil Rays reliever Jon Switzer during the eighth inning of a baseball game Saturday, Aug. 5, 2006, in St. Petersburg, Fla.

The Red Sozx are in the weakest part of their schedule for the next 7 games. Tomorrow is a big, big game following up on this loss. We have the biggest losing starting pitcher of all time going for us. That is a disgrace pure and simple. Having this guy in the rotation for a key game 109 games into the season is an indictment of the FO. He is not a so-so pitcher or even a bad pitcher. He's the worst pitcher. I'd give anything to see Frank Castillo take the mound tomorrow.

Hopefully Johnson can stop the bleeding tomorrow, but I wouldn‘t bet on it. Too bad Tito couldn’t shift the order of the rotation somehow in the near future so Johnson doesn’t follow Wells.

If there is one thing I know about baseball...nothing is predictable. Just when you see a game set up for a guaranteed win or loss....it doesn't work out that way. I don't like our chances to win tomorrow but then again Jason Johnson is due for a win.

Speaking of chances...I don't like ours for making the playoffs. Our pitching is so bad it will be very difficult to go on a winning streak and gain momentum. The rotation needs to catch fire and our bats need to come to life (outside of Ortiz and Manny).

Perhaps by the time Wakefield comes back, David Wells will be back to form and we can move....big question marks surround the fate of 2006 Red Sox.

I imagine the Sox will pick it up by the time the Yankees come into Fenway for that 5 game series. They always do.

They better, because if they dont, they wont have a shot at winning the division.

Everytime we lose a game in the 4th and 5th starter spots, there is NO ONE to blame but Theo. Thanks for that starter Theo!
Yeah thanks Theo for Jason Johnson and the 0-3 record so far. Tomorrow will probably be painful watching the sinker-baller giving up rocket shot grounders through the infield on the artificial turf. We could lose one or two more infielders to injury if the get in front of those rockets.

No hits in the bottom five of the lineup makes it hard for this team to win. This is turning out to be a more typical Red Sox team than anyone had suspected at the beginning of the season. While their defense is great, the pitching, with the exception of Schilling and Papelbon, is so poor that this team has to bludgeon its opponents to win.

It didnt help any last night with Hansen's struggles continuing of allowing a plethora of baserunners

EDIT: Wells did show a more encouraging outing just wasnt helped by early run support (yes Fossum is the new Kazmir/Rodrigo Lopez/Ted Lilly for the Red Sox), Ortiz's error at 1st base led to 4 unearned runs, Javy somehow didnt getting Greg Norton. Just a lot of bad luck

Ugh but Jason Johnson staying with Boston is nerve-wrevcking to say the least. Please come back Wake :(, Jason Johnson is so far scheduled to pitch the first game against the Yankees. The game I have good tickets for
