God, I'd rather listen to the Ford commercial with Taylor Hicks a thousand times rather than watch that stupid Jimmy Falon Pepsi commercial one more time.

cant come back from them all

Thanks to Beckett for his implosion, ho-hum yet another game where a Boston starter cant go more than 6 innings

Huckaby batting with bases loaded/no outs in the 6th inning was killer (though not under control of team), made it 2 quick outs

Sox officially in 2nd place. They have to take advantge of their next 3 series-- Tampa, Kansas City, Baltimore

Damn, Beckett needs to start pitching, none of this little league fastball "throwing" ********. This should have been a win.
He's 13-6. He's not the problem. The 4th and 5th slots have basically been forfeit games, and it's been going on for two long. If there were legitimate major leaguers in those spots, the Sox would be about 4 games in first place.

Back to his old habits of not making adjustments as he goes deeper into the game.

The overall pitching has to get better

Not sure of the ERA, but Im guessing its up there.,.

Cleveland series

44 Hits, 26 Runs, 8 Walks, 21 Ks, 36 innings

Its strange but lately....everyones ERA is going up. Jonathan Papelbon is keeping his steady but at this point it doesn't move much either way.

Josh Beckett said he calls his own game....I'm starting to think thats a bad idea. In fact, considering everyones ERA is going up...perhaps the coaching staff is to blame. Either these guys aren't preparing correctly, they are used at the wrong time, or a combination of things.

The gaping holes in the rotation for more more than a month and a half have allowed a limping Yankees to stay close and overtake. Now the Yankee rotation is looking solid, and their lineup has received a shot in the arm with Abreau. Sheffield and Matsui will be coming back. Now that the Yankees are getting healthy, the Sox are getting injured. The Yankee FO took action to help bolster their team for the stretch run. OUr FO has done nothing to plug the rotation holes. Jason Johnson and Snyder are jokes. I guess the Yankee FO is more interested in winning a Championship rather than the future, but for a team that only cares about the present they beat us for the division every single year. When does the future come for the Red Sox, and will the Yankees still be beating us.

I agree that the Red Sox did not set themselves up for a final run. We are now the ones limping into August and the pitching is getting worse. The way this moment is going we need to focus on the wild card but that will be tough considering Minnesota and ChiSox are going to be in the mix.

Of the Red Sox remaining 27 August games only 13 are against teams with a .500 or better record. The White Sox play 20 out of 26. The Twins play 13 of 26. The next 9 Red Sox games are against sub .500 teams while the White Sox next 10 games are against plus .500 teams. Over the next week and a half the Red Sox need to put some distance between themselves and the other Wild Card teams or they will be in big trouble.

The sox have a very favorable schedule in August, but they have the toughest September schedule of all 4 teams that are fighting for 2 spots. If they are gona get this done, they wil need to take advantage of the yankees brutal august and take the majority of the remaining 9 games with the yankee.

As for the red sox focusing on the future, I feel as if they have no big prospects to move. Lestr, Paps, Hansen, MDC are in the bigs. Hanley, Anibal are in FL. Pedroia is not adjusting as well as one would have hoped in AAA. The other guys are at least 2 yrs away or they were drft picks this yr that cannot be traded until next yr. I dont think they had the pieces in the minors to get a big deal done and they surely didnt want to detractr from what they had going on in the bigs. I do not know why they didnt at least get a guy like Byrd or Lidle or Lieber, at least someone who can go 6 innings a game. It would really have helped th epen and it wouldnt have cost much.

The part in bold is flat out wrong. Pedroia is raking in AAA. .310/.393/.434 -- good stuff for a 2B

Id say. Even his plate patience is looking pretty good, he has only whiffed 24 times, and hearing some rave reviews about his defense. Cant imagine how his numbers would be if he wasnt placed on the DL in spring training which resulted in a slow start
