Is Mark Redman that good?? Or did we forget how to hit??

considering the Sox recent trend, I'd say we forgot how to hit

btw, anyone know if Paps is available today?

I hope this performance by Redman doesn't cause Theo to pull the trigger on a trade for him.

3 shutouts in the last 5 games. The Sox last had 1-0 shutouts back to back against Toronto in August of 1990.

Great to see our pitching performing like this, but the offense has to step it up as they have been in a slump since the 12 game winning streak.

Papelbon has 29 saves, leads the majors. 3 days in a row, he should have the day off

Papelbon now tied for 7th on Red Sox Single-Season Saves List

Papelbon now has 29 saves, which ties him with Lee Smith (1988) and Dick Radatz (1964) for 7th all-time on the Red Sox single season saves list. Next up for Papelbon is Heathcliff Slocumb and Bill Campbell who each have 31.

I think Francona should mix up the batting lineup

I agree, I think he should throw out this lineup and see how it does

Crisp

Lorreta

Ortiz

Manny

Lowell

Nixon

Varitek

Gonzo

Youk

I would bat Youk 7th, Tek 8th and Gonzo 9th.

I like this, it basically gives 2 leadoff hitters in Coco and Youk. Everything else is good.

I missed the first part of the game, but how kewl is it that 2 of the 7 hits the Sox had were bunt singles from Papi and Lowell.

Before his new three-year deal was announced, Josh Beckett allowed four hits over eight innings to pick up a victory as the Red Sox beat the Royals 1-0 for the second straight day on Wednesday.

We hope Jason Varitek was taking notes. With Doug Mirabelli behind the plate, Beckett did a much better job of mixing in curves and changes today, and while the opponent was a weak one, Beckett would have posted very good results against a quality offense. It was the first time the Red Sox won two straight 1-0 games at Fenway Park since 1916. Boston won all three games of the series by one run, with Jonathan Papelbon getting the save each time.

Rotoworld writers have a short memory. Mirabelli caught Beckett's game against Chicago, in which he gave up 5 runs on the strength of 3 big-flies. So its not the catcher thats been the problem.

Anyways... Varitek or not behind the plate, this looks like the beginning of Beckett's rebirth this season. Granted it was the Royals but this could be the spark that gets him going. The 3/4 year extension probably will help as well ;)
