He's f***ing Houdini. Chacon was pulling this same highwire act earlier this year, it didn't last. He can't keep this up and keep his ERA as low as it has been.

The 3-2 to Youk was very borderline, most likely a ball. The 3-2 to Ortiz was a full 6" off the plate. That could have been a big inning.

It's a good sign for me when a rookie pitcher's only real problem is running up the pitch count. I think by the end of the year he'll be good for 7 innings/3runs per game.

Exactly, have some calm about Lester guys. Never compare him to Chacon again, Chacon is washed up, Lester is 22. Most 22 year olds have control issues. They over throw. He'll come into a groove sooner or later.

I was just giving my current observation, nothing wrong with that. Im not acting like he's going to be a dead weight for us. Of course he'll get better in time

And I didnt actually compare him to Chacon, thats a little-bit exaggeration

Where did I compare him to Chacon? I didn't. Take off the rose shaded glasses. He's going to get bombed if he keeps putting 2 on per inning. All it takes is one of those GB being in the hole instead of right at a fielder for the DP. It's only a matter of time.

What's encouraging is that not many hitters are hitting the ball hard. His stuff is very good, but where he throws it sucks about 50% of the time right now.

the bottom line about Lester is that he's walking a fine line with how many times he gets into jams. But like ksushi said, he'll ease into being a major league starter and learn to trust his stuff more and more.

I have no doubt that he'll improve over time, but right now he's a crooked number waiting to happen. Not in the Clement way where he just gets bombed, but in the way that he puts so many people on base, and at some point, one of those hard hit balls in the gap (which aren't frequent) will come after he's walked the bases loaded.

But that hasn't happed yet so there's no reason to worry about it. It's like saying Pedro's arm is going to fall off one of these days. It may and probably will, but not yet.

And by lowering his pitch counts I meant he needs more command. Right now he's aiming and not in control as much as he should be in the future.

He's doing fine right now for a #5 starter, but the Sox need to go out and get someone with experience to work deep into games. They can't afford to continue to burn up the pen with the 4th and 5th starters while forfeiting the games by the 5th starter

Well, when the #4 starter is 5-0 and you don't really have a #5 starter, where do you really want to blow the bullpen?

I agree. There's no stressing over what hasn't happened, and it doesn't stress me in the least. That said, his control is an issue, and I think it's a bit fanboyish when people are extremely dismissive of it.

Don't get me wrong. I'm very impressed with Lester. He's got 3 very good looking pitches and he mixes them up well for a 22 y/o. Even more important, and more impressive for his age, is the kid has some serious juevos grandes. He just doesn't get rattled by the situation. The only time he's been upset is when he's cursing himself for a bad pitch.

Chad Gaudin? Oh man, I would love to see the Rays pick him up along with Bradford from the Mets.

Chad Bradford

Chad Gaudin

Chad Harville

Chad Orvella

That would be an unstoppable combination.

MWAHAHAHAHA.

Even worse in Florida. There'd be like a zillion "dangling" jokes.

You end up blowing the pen in both slots. There's no choice. You throw the good guys on the days Lester pitches and the mopup guys pitch the next day probably for at least 4 innings. 8 innings in 2 days puts a terrible strain on the bullpen. They have to shore up the rotation with a guy who can eat innings.

No, there's no time for their announcers to do that. They are too busy telling everyone how great Kazmir is (even when he isn't pitching) or complaining about how Crawford didn't make the ASG. Seriously, they don't talk about anything else.

Alright guy, calm down. I didn't intend to offend you. Relax, breathe. I completely agree with you, no need to butt heads.

Well, they are starting the second-half like they started the first-half, by leaving lots of runners on base.
