To start off, I hope everyone is having an enjoyable summer and I am sorry for my absence. Moving on... I realize that many Yankee fans who post here consider me some sort of jinx for the Sox and gem for New York. So to change things up, before each Red Sox series I will list my reasons why Boston will fall short in the upcoming series (all in hopes of continuing the Sox run towards an AL East title). Most of this maybe comical, but I am just trying to have some fun, and see what happens.

Over the past three seasons, the four games series' following the All-Star break have not been kind to the Sox -- including losing 3 of 4 to the Yankees in 2005. Now, our boys face a fired up team in the Oakland Athletics. The A's have lost 4 of the last 5 games entering the break, including 3 of 4 to the in-state rivaled Angels. Let us not forget that many of the same players remember Lowe's fist pump after Game 5 of the ALDS three years ago and know the dominance the Sox have had in recent years. Who are we to expect ROOKIE Jon Lester to keep pitching the way he has? Lester gets shelled in game one, including taking a line drive off his left hand, ending his season and career at age 22. Game two features Josh Beckett. A miserable 7.50 ERA in his last seven starts and a 5+ ERA over the last two months? Guaranteed loss. Furthermore, our players may still be fatigued from Sunday's 19 inning faulter and the previous 10 game road trip. Offensively, we will see Manny Ramirez and David Ortiz struggle from the plate, going 5-for-32 and being shut down by Oakland pitching. Manny and Ortiz should see plenty of relief pitcher Justin Duchscherer, who has held Ramirez to 0-for-4 with 2 Ks and held Papi to 1-for-10 in his career. When it comes down to it, the A's know how to win the big games during the regular season when fighting for the Division. I expect to see a sea of Athletic green at Fenway, and the White Elephants leaving town on a high note after Ken Macha accuses Red Sox management of stealing the "Moneyball" way of playing the game and states that his time in Pawtucket was never really that great.

Ouch. The mix of fact and fiction kind hurts.

Hopefully the home Beckett with the 2.54 ERA will show up for this game, and not the road Beckett, who’s been getting pounded with the long ball. I think he’s got a good chance here…a home game against a team that hasn’t faced him yet this year.

Pitching matchups

Game 1- Rookie Jon Lester vs the 6+ ERA Estaban Loaiza... Billy Beane might be a guru but its laughable he gave a 3 year contract to this hack who cant pitch in the AL, Sox should take care of him and back up Lester

Game 2- Wayback Beckett (Nuke Laloosh) vs Dan Haren... As much as Beckett's 1st half was under expectations, he has been dominant in the hitters park that is Fenway. He is carrying a nifty 2.54 ERA in 7 starts and a 5-0 record. Let alone just 4 of his 26 HRs have been at Fenway. Haren has had 2 good starts vs Boston, but lost both of them due to shoddy defense. So far, Im not expecting a high scoring game from either side.

Game 3- Curt Schilling vs Barry Zito... Yet again another great pitching duel Schilling finds himself in. This game will also see Wily Mo Pena's 1st start since returning from the DL.

Game 4- Tim Wakefield vs Joe Blanton... Wake has done well against the A's, just holding out hope on his sore back woes. Joe Blanton had an impressive rookie season last year, but has been hittable this season with a 4.95 ERA

I gotta give the A’s credit so far. Who would have thought that the worst hitting team in the league would come into Fenway and take care of the Sox they way they have?

I'd have no problem if SFiT's posts went the way of the Dodo. He contributes little to the board, and it appears his antics don't help even a little. It would be OK if I saw some humility in the future, but I don't see that happening. I'm not suggesting he be banned, but I won't be upset if he decides to refrain from posting.

Unfortunately for the red sox, all these remaining games will be played against AL teams.

Yes, and unfortunately for the Yankees, they only have 3 games remaining against the Royals, while the Sox have 9. Fact of the matter is, they played the same NL teams the Sox did, but they were 6 games inferior in that regard. Try again, troll.

well, the royals aren't chop liver, they beat the Tigers today, but they certainly do make the schedule look better.

I dont think I'd ban SFiT, just make sure he never starts a thread like this again

Wow, the superstition is really going overboard on talksox. First all the mojos, and now some of us want SFiT banned because he made a completely accurate prediction. None of those mojos work, just coincidences, SFiT isn't bad luck, he just made a good prediction. He doesn't deserve to be banned.

Nobody really believes in that stuff. That said, it's part of the fun and character of the board. Try to keep up.

EDIT: Oh, and the only people who have mentioned the word 'ban' haven't been in favor of it. Try to read better.

What!!!! Mojo isn't real??? I'm going to go rethink my life.

Just kidding;)

Trust me, I know. Do you think I actually think that my Stephen A. and Quaker Oatmeal mojos are working? No I don't, I'm just joking around and both you and jsinger suggested that SFiT's posts disappeared. Usually when they go away and "go the way of the Dodo" as you say, the poster has been banned...just reading between the lines.

Except, I explicity stated that I'm not in favor of banning him. So, you read between lines that weren't there. Basically, I tactfully expressed a desire that he shut up. However, your density has made that attempt at tact impossible.

Whatever, this is like arguing the difference between a car and an automobile, you didn't say he should be banned but you said he should stop posting and shut up. The bottom line is that SFiT should not be banned, nor should he need to shut up. He made a good prediction and whether he made the prediction or not, the Sox would have lost 3 of 4. If you should be mad at anyone, it should be the Red Sox players and management for assembling the players that lost 3 of 4 games not SFiT for prediciting it.

I'm not mad at anyone. Although, your inability to get the point is quite frustrating. Here, let me put it in plain English since you suck at reading between the lines so bad.....

I WISH PEOPLE WOULD STOP TALKING s*** HERE.

It serves no purpose, and it just creates fodder for those that come here only to stir the pot.

You're obviously very frustrated, maybe it's because of the Sox losing 3 of 4 in this series, maybe it's because STiF made the prediction, or maybe it's because of me. I don't know who you're referring to when you talk about people talking smack. If it's about SFiT, he was just simply making a prediction and he happened to be right. If it's about me, I'm just backing up SFiT because he doesn't deserve to be told to shut up, all he did was make a prediction, he backed up his guess, and he was right. Also, it's kind of ironic that you're telling people to stop talking s*** when you tell me I suck at reading between the lines. You don't want him banned, but you want him to stop posting and to shut up and there is no reason for him to stop.

What bunch of babbling nonsense. Please go read SFiTs initial post. He wasn't making a true prediction. He was, in essence, doing what he always does, talking smack but in reverse since 90% of the time he ends up with his foot in his mouth. Good job missing the blatanly obvious.
