The White Sox 3-4-5 is probably the best in baseball. They have all the pieces for a WS series repeat.

I don't think their pitching is good enough. Every pitcher had a hot year for them last year. Buehrle, Garland, and Garcia have come back to Earth a bit. Vazquez has been hit or miss. Contreras, despite not losing a decision yet this year, hasn't pitched as good as last year either. They've been winning with the lumber, like we did last year, but they'll lose a bunch when they hit a cold spot, like we did last year.

It seems like Beckett is making any adjustments today…repeating the same mistakes and getting burned.

More like this season.

How many times do I have to spell this out for you.

Livan has a 6 ERA in the f***ing National league. It doesn't matter if he can eat innings if he's giving up 6 runs a game. That's brutal. His whip is 1.68, which is also pretty f***ing bad.

It'd be like having another Matt Clement.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you're saying you would rather have Kyle Snyder?

They also didn't have a payroll at 130 million when they resigned those guys. It was in the 70's.
What they saved on Pedro they threw away on Clement and Wells. They wasted money on Rent-an-error when they could have signed Cabrera for 40% less and put the savings towards re-signing DLowe. In the end, they would have come out in the same place on the payroll. They would haqve saved 3.% million in the first year if they re-signed Pedro, becaquse he pulled down $17.5 million in '04.

Edit: Also, the White Sox do not come close to the Red Sox in economic strength.

For what Livan costs, yes.

Why, are the nationals asking alot for him?

Do you honestly think teams are going to give their players to red sox for nothing.

Edit: Bowden is the same fool who asked the Red Sox if they wanted Tony Armas in return for Jacoby Ellsbury and Michael Bowden.

He does have an 8 million dollar salary. People bitch about the 9 mIL/YR we dropped on Clement, this would be that part deux. I'd rather see if Snyder can do the job. Odds are he won't be worse than that, and a lot less expensive.

WHere did I even suggest that? I think the Nationals are probably looking to off-load his salary, and I would doubt that he is commanding a price of a top level prospect like Hansen.

Put it this way.....Jim Bowden was asking for both Jacoby Ellsbury and Michael Bowden for Tony Armas.

Yeah, given performance and contract, Livan Hernandez probably isn't going to command much. Even in a thin pitching market. The Nat's biggest chip is Soriano, so that is where they will reap a reward if someone bites. All that said, I don't want him on this team. Sure he can eat up some innings (along with everything on the buffet table), but he doesn't give quality innings, so who cares how many innings he can throw.

And the fact that the trade did not go through and that he did not get a similar offer from another team is proof that Livan does not command a very high price. You can ask for anything. It doesn't mean that you will get it. It's called negotiating. As his team falls further out of the race and Livan's ERA remains around 5, his price will come down. Your argument would be much more persuasive if the Nat's were turning down offers of Ellsbury and Bowden. Asking for them means nothing.

And, I read somewhere that he asked for Hughes from the Yankees. When it's this early in the trading season, you always shoot for the stars and hope someone jumps. He doesn't expect that in return, but it's his job to try.

I really gotta hand it to the new ESPN Gamecast. It kills the old one. It has little animations and cool features, but the best part is that it almost perfectly timed with the radio broadcast - unlike the mlb and SI ones.
