Jeter k's again. Cough cough. Maybe a little choking going on with the batting crown on the line. 1 for 5. Well' date=' he's a pretty boy, so he'll probably win the big popularity title despite the fact that he has led the league in none of the major categories.[/quote']

BUT WHAT ABOUT THE INTANGIBLES OMFG!!!!!! COME ON!!!! MVP!!! MVP!!! MVP!!!

Yes, the intangibles that no one can put into words, because it's nothing more than a media.fan created myth.

BTW: The kid catcher from Minnesota got 2 hits with the title on the line. Clutch.

What does clutch even mean? I swear you guys just make that up to make Ortiz look better /atypicalyankeefan

I could have sworn Jeter was a player for the Yankees.

Right but he didn't win the rings. The Yankees did.

I believe he was talking about singles awards.

Wow. I'm not going to argue semantics with you people. I have better things to do...like prepare myself to watch the Yankees play on Tuesday.

Yes, they were called the World Champion Yankees, not the World Champion Jeters. He has the same rings as Luis Sojo, who has 5 rings. I guess that makes him better than Jeter. There are four Yankees left from those teams. The heart and soul of those teams have been gone for some time now (O'Neil, Knoblauch, Cone (5 rings), Wells, Pettitte, Clemens, Brosius) with only Mo, Jeter and Posada remaining as starters from those teams. Bernie was a major contributor to those teams, but he is only a part-time player. It's funny that the Yankees continue to pump up their their payroll, but have not been able to win after that group departed. Maybe $230 million is the magic #.

BTW: When Mo finally goes, the Yanks will start missing the playoffs.

No they'll just go out and buy the best current closer.

Yeah, big market teams can use their resources to put together good teams. I know, as a Boston fan, this might be an odd notion to you after watching a $120 million team give up 14 more runs than it scored and miss the playoffs entirely.

I laugh at how Yankee fans conclude that Jeter's rings equate to greatness. When the books close on the Prima Don SS, it will show that he never finished first in any major individual category, and that the only individual honors that he will have won are merely popularity contests. He'll never have won a batting title, a Home Run title or RBI title. I wonder how many HOFers have done that? Well, since the Hall is also a popularity contest, they'll probably change the rules for him.

I dont know their career stats off hand but I would be willing to bet Phil Rizzuto, Ozzie Smith and Bill Mazeroski never won any of those awards. I'm sure if I did some reserch I could find more examples.

With regard to Ozzie Smith are you seriously comparing Jeters' defense to Ozzie. Ozzie was a one of a kind fielder with no peers and he had 580 stolen bases. There is no comparison. But keep looking for more examples. I am curious.

It is now 10-8 in the 12. Kenny Rogers is doing what he usually does in October.

I've been prepping myself to watch the Yankees play the Twins in the first round, it'd be surprising, to say the least, for that to change on the last day of the season.

Well if we are going to put Smith in for his defense lets also let in Keith Hernandez. He is by far the best 1st basemen I have ever saw(defensive wise). I dont see him getting in anytime soon. Baseball Refrence does this hall of fame moniter thing which measure how worthy current players are compared past players:

Jeter will be well worth of this honor when his career comes to a close. But dont let it stop you from going to Cooperstown 10 or so years from now and protesting his selection.
