Well it was nice to start this series off strong like we did, especially following the disaster in Toronto. Just gotta look to keep it up here the rest of the series and take the momentum home with us against the Rays.

He started 2002 on the DL. SAteve Karsay was the closer for a while until Rivera got better. I believe there was another time too, but I cant specifically recall.

Juan Acevedo was the closer for a little bit in 2003.

That statement proves you know absolutely nothing about baseball. You guys have 1 young pitcher that doesn't blow ... how exactly is it that you're staff is better off? You do understand that Mike Mussina is going to continue to age right? And that will leave your team without a consistant pitcher. Or wait ...is it because you guys have 1 pitching prospect in the minors ... OH NO!!! PHILLIP HUGHES ... I'M SO SCARED!!!!

The Yankees have 1 consistant pitcher, and nothing behind him besides an average Wang who will never be able to beat the Red Sox consistantly. Come back to earth dude.

As of late it definately arguable that the Yankees pitching staff is better than the Red Sox. Being better off for the moment has absolutely nothing to do with the age of your pitchers and how many top prospects you have in the minors, so you're basically talking out of your ass. Randy, Moose, and Wang have been splendid the last month or so. Wright seems to have found himself lately (until the 6th inning, that is), and our only huge question mark is the 5th spot with Ponson. Our bullpen is deep, and although there are some inconsistecies, our relievers are much better than yours. GIve me Proctor over Seanez anyday. I'll take Villone over Tavarez. Farnsworth, although he has struggled when throwing more than one inning, throws harder than Timlin and it could be argued that he is about as good as Timlin due to his velocity and his slider. Not to mention we have the best closer in the history of the game. Our pitching staff, with the exception of Dotel (I dont really consider Pavano a part of the team anymore) is doing pretty damn well in the injury department, and will be doing better when Dotel joins the team in about 2 weeks (hopefully). You guys have had numerous injury problems throughout the course of the year. So much so that you were forced to call up the likes of Kason Gabbard. When you make pickups such as Kyle Snyder, that's not saying much for your pitching staff. I highly doubt Theo Epstein and Terry Francona are thrilled about having Jermaine Van Buren, Kyle Snyder, Manny Delcarmen, Kason Gabbard, Craig Hansen, and Jon Lester on the active roster instead of Matt Clement, Keith Foulke, Lenny DiNardo, Tim Wakefield, and Boomer Wells. When you're trading guys who were supposed to be key in the setup efforts for minor league relievers (David Riske and Javier Lopez, respectively) and juggling a pitcher who was claimed off waivers and is sporting a 3-10 record with an ERA above 6.30 (6.35 to be exact) it's hard to say you have a solid pitching staff with a straight face. And despite the record, when you're number 2 and ace of the future is sporting an ERA approaching 5 and 40 walks, it's not looking too great for the front end of your rotation. Now that's not to say that Joshy-poo has been bad, because he hasnt, but it is to say that he hasnt been as solid as you guys would like him to be. Now as for Lester, granted he has done a WONDERFUL job since his callup, I would bet you $20 that when Theo Epstein had to call him up he didnt do so with a smile on his face. Idoubt he wanted his highly touted pitching prspect up here so soon and under such circumstances. Now obviously it has worked out well for Theo and the Sox, but things could have taken a different route had they not gotten so lucky with how good Lester has been. So either way you put it, i'll gladly take Randy Johnson, Mike Mussina, Chien-Ming Wang, Jaret Wright, Sidney Ponson, Shawn Chacon, T.J. Beam, Mike Myers, Ron Villone, Scott Proctor, Kyle Farnsworth, and Mariano Rivera over Curt Schilling, Josh Beckett, Jon Lester, Kason Gabbord, Manny Delcarmen, Craig Hansen, Jermaine Van Buren, Kyle Snyder, Rudy Seanez, Julian Tavarez, Mike Timlin, and Jonathon Papelbon.

Please, think twice before calling me out again.

As of right now, I dont see HOW you can say the Yankees pitching staff is in better shape than the Red Sox.

Mussina = Schilling

Randy = Beckett

Wright

Wang

Ponson = Snyder (although Snyder has been much better than Ponson lately)

Rivera = Papelbon

Farsworth

Proctor

Myers > Lopez

Villone > Seanez

Wilson

Chacon = Tavarez

Kris Wilson isn't even on the team anymore. But I will give you TJ Beam Kason Gabbard[/b] (NOT Wakefield). Granted, Jon Lester has been great, but he isnt even supposed to be up here in the bigs yet. Wang has been terrific and his 11 wins are looking pretty nice up there among the league leaders. I can't really make a solid arguement against your Chacon=Tavarez case just yet because we havent seen enough of Chacon in the pen yet. However, you cant get much worse than Julian Tavarez. Javier Lopez isnt on the team anymore, Jermaine Van Buren however, is still less than Mike Myers.

I betchya guys that Theo Epstein is finding it more urgent to get some pitching help than Brian Cashman is at this point. Now that's not to say that Cashman isnt urging to get some help because we obviously need it, but dont say that the Boston staff is in better shape than the Bombers' just yet.

Wouldnt that go in our favor? He wasnt expected to be up here but called on the spot, he has delivered with some great results.

Not in the arguement that I was trying to make. Obviously it's a huge plus for you guys, but what I was trying to say is that if the Sox pitching staff was in better shape than the Yankees' than he wouldn't even be here. It just so happens he's worked out for you guys, minimizing the problem somewhat.

Still going to be another competitive race through & through

Yanks by early September will have Matsui & Sheff rejoining the lineup, making the lineup oh so stronger

Sox by early September will have a "set" rotation of Schilling, Beckett, Lester, Wakefield, and Wells. On paper that looks a nice 1 - 5, but it is on paper

Sox/Yanks, they cant seem to be apart :dunno:

Is it that difficult to just give the kid some credit?

Where do I deny him credit? It was an observation and opinion. He advanced 3 bases he shouldn't have by Texas f***ing up last night on a dropped tag, misplayed ball in the corner, and ARod-esque throw to the plate. About a week and a half ago, he reached via error like 7 times in 6 games. Are you trying to tell me he did something to earn those bases?

I've never seen you give him credit. Just always making excuses for his success. Granted, I could be wrong as I dont monitor every single one of your posts, but based on what I have see you have something against this kid or something.

Holy psychobabble. I made an observation that he gets on base and advances a lot due to mistakes. It's just an observation -- obviously one you can't refute. I didn't even say anything bad about him.

EDIT: Change of heart.

Eric Duncan is hot as a pistol right now. He hit another HR and that makes 4 HR's in the past 3 games. Its great to see this kid comeback after that tough start to the year.

He did the same thing at the end of last year and in the AFL. I wonder if he's proned to very good hot streaks and subsequent abysmal cold streaks.

Well from what I understand he had a back injury that took some of his power away and you combine that with being rushed too AAA and it really wasnt a suprised he struggled at the start of the season. Since he got to Trenton he has been playing like the prospect we thought he was. I think he has a 940 OPS (or around that) and he has more walks then K's in AA which I think suggests a hitter which is starting to mature. He is only 21 and in reality he should have started in AA not AAA.

EDIT: Duncan has a .947 OPS in AA. .377 OBP .570 SLG
