Who frigging gave Jason Johnson premission to screw up our win streak? Get this guy out of here and call Synder up... At least he gave us a chance to win

I agree. My only two losses in the game thread this year were Pauley in NY and Johnson tonight. I have no problem thowing the mojo behind guys like this, they sometimes need it more than the other guys. That's because theys SUCK>

I feel bad for feeling this way about Johnson, and I know it was only one start, but he's been like this all year. I don't have faith in him being the answer, and I don't want the experiment to continue. I'd rather have Pauley back up here, or give Snyder another chance. I feel bad because he's a nice guy and doesn't really deserve this, I just think he was thrown into the wrong role on the wrong team at the wrong time, which isn't his fault.

Pauley pitched decently, and no matter how bad he si there is at least that glimmer of hope the he can have a decent outing.

Johnson is dead and can not pitch anymore and needs to be gotten rid of by any means possible.

Pauley is not much. I'll give the guy credit for pitching his ass off while in the Bigs, and he really did a great job in NY, but the guy's no more than a small piece to some other team's puzzle. He's got sub Arroyo stuff and ability. That's it.

The Florida announcers mentioned that the Sox expect Clement back in July and Wells no sooner than August (why don't I get this news on NESN :dunno: ). If I were Theo I wouldn't do anything at the trade deadline unless it was a slam dunk for pitching. Let the 5th spot go to anyone willing to grab it until Clement or Wells gets it figured out.

Snyder pitched fine in his start. Johnson has nothing working for him these days.

I also believer Snyder's pitched pretty well in Pawtucket. I would have kept him as our 5th starter, but i guess its not that bad to give Johnson 1 start and see how he does.

No doubt about it, Johnson’s first 2 innings s*** the bed completely, but he did settle it down for the last two. It had been 11 days since he had last pitched in a game. And due to the rainout on Sunday, the pitching matchups got moved so he ends up going against Willis. Tough call if he should be DFA’d based on just tonight’s game. Had he not broken the momentum of a 12 game winning streak, his sucky first two innings might not have been so glaringly bad, I dunno…no great loss if they do ship him out.

Either get Synder up here or try Weaver off the scrap heap.

Weaver...That’s all the Sox need is another headcase pitcher who would probably crumble in the atmosphere and limelight of playing in Boston. If Snyder, Clement, and Boomer weren’t all possibilities I say yes, but not now. Why not give Johnson at least one or two more starts? I think they’d be against the D-Rays and KC. If he still continues to suck ass then DFA him. I think it’s likely that a few more similar scrap heaps like Weaver will be available before the end of July.

We only need 1 more starter because Lester is here to stay as he has solidified the #4 spot as his own. Clement has yet to show he's worth here even as a #5 starter. His rehab might be going good but that doesnt mean he's all there together mentally. Think back to the times when he lets runners get past 1st base. Shoulders hunch over and he just loses it

He'll get the D-Rays next time out...

6+ ERA vs Tampa Bay

7+ ERA @ Tropicana Field

Whats the story with Fatty Wells??? I heard he is traveling with the team soon but anyone have an idea of when he can pitch?? I'm not sure if there is a time table yet??
I heard that he is in Florida training at SeaWorld.

HAHA! Wells and Shamoo are practicing their belly flops. hahaha

Alright, so we all know the five spot this year is a big problem. Easily the biggest problem the sox have had this year. Don't look now, but Tavarez is back to throwing around 94 and his fastball looks to have better life. He has had a lazy FB all year. Our bullpen is getting there. Our defense is the best we've seen in the majors perhaps since the 2003 Marlins... who had Lowell, Gonzalez, Castill and Lee. Our offense has been better than anyone (except me) thought it would be. This 5- spot is really nagging us now. Johnson just seems to not be able to keep the flood gates closed. Every time he goes out its a guarenteed five runs for the other guys. I agree he sucks and isn't the answer. I'm not sold on Clement or Wells being the answer either. Snyder deserves another look IMO.

I have no faith that Clement can come back and get outs, and I certainly don't want to see Lester head back to the minors in his favor. Now if Wells and Clement come back this year, who is our four and five? In my opinion neither of those guys have the right to take a spot from Lester. If both of them come back, and Wells is healthy, my rotation would look like this:

Schilling

Beckett

Wakefield

Lester

Wells (with Clement on reserves incase Wells can't pitch anymore)

Is this the end of the Johnson experiment?

Jason Johnson, who started on Wednesday, was unavailable for an undisclosed reason.

"In the next couple of days, we'll have an announcement," Francona said of Johnson, who struggled mightily in his first two starts with the Red Sox.

Can we read between the lines and assume he’s either been put on waivers or DFA’d? The “undisclosed reason” suggests something along those lines.

Ripped from Extra Bases on boston.com

The Sox optioned Jason Johnson to Single-A Wilmington today. Why Wilmington? So that he can start on Wednesday, when the Blue Rocks host Frederick. Triple-A Pawtucket is off until Thursday, and Double-A Portland does not play Tuesday and Wednesday due to the All-Star Break in both the International and Eastern Leagues.

Doesn’t Johnson have to clear waivers first? I wouldn’t be surprised if he did, but I never saw it listed as an official team transaction.

At this point, I'd rather see Tina Cervasio out there every 5th day instead of Jason Johnson, as Gary Tanguay put it, "when this guy gets on the mound, his team knows they have no chance of winning the game".
Posted

I think Snyder might be getting his chance, because I read the Theo chat transcript on Boston.com today and Theo was very positive towards Snyder and his attitude towards the organization.

Also, I believe I heard that Johnson and the Red Sox and Johnson were working on a deal that would let Johnson go back and forth from the majors with out going on waivers. I don't remember the details, but yeah, someone on this board might have said it.

Yessss

Im going to what wouldve been his next start. Game 1 vs the Royals next Monday. Damn good seats behind the dugout, thanks SFOC

Why a Royals game some of you may ask? Well Ive got to give Tony G & Mienky their due in first game back at Fenway Park since being a Red Sox

I’m surprised that the Sox actually see some hope that Johnson can regain his pitching. From what I’ve seen it’s going to take more work to restore him than refurbishing some of the hoopties on “Pimp My Ride”. Good luck.

Could be a trade in the works' date=' there are many days until a 5th starter is needed.[/quote']I hope something happens. They have to pull the plug on this bum of the week crap, e.g. Johnson, Snyder, Pauley, DiNardo.

For a minute I thought you meant that you were thinking that Johnson was going to be involved in a trade. I would have laughed at you and wondered why the hell you thought anyone would want Johnson.

Theo was on sports extra last night and said he is not mortgaging the future for a quick fix.
Duh, that's exactly what he should be saying. He doesn't want the other GMs knowing that he is desperate like he was last year. All the GMs will be touting the same line about not making any major moves, because last year they pursued pitching at the deadline so hard that they drove the price out of sight. I really don't care what Theo says for public consumption. He needs to get a real major leaguer in the rotation. If he doesn't and they continue to give away every 5th game, they will be overtaken by the Yanks and this $130 million dollar payroll will watch the post-season from their couches.

haha thats what i though at first to. We got Johnson for just money and i doubt anyone would take him at this point.
